When the news were coming from Turkey that Erdogan was on the run I got a glimpse of hope, the hope didn't last long and it was killed by the 2nd last person I'd expect him to do so, the Russian President Putin.
We all know that the some Gulfies financed the military coup that was backed by the US to remove Erdogan from power in Turkey and Erdogan was in real danger, he would have faced trial for corruption, for dealing with ISIS stealing Syrian oil and selling it to Israel, for oppression in his country, for sponsoring hundreds of thousands of terrorists who some of them committed terror attacks inside his own country, among other crimes that would be present for him to answer for.
However, and after very much mistrust between the two the Russian intelligence alerted their president who alerted Erdogan and the coup was foiled.
That's a very very long strategic aiming for Mr. Putin, especially putting his bets on an unstable person like Erdogan, a hypocrite who betrayed everybody not starting with his own mentor and friends including who took him out of prison and appointed him prime minister, to almost everybody else. Tens of thousands of Turks lost their jobs because the coup failed, tens of thousands are still in prison.
A user commented on my post I wrote that day during the military coup which shows that the possibility of any person replacing Erdogan would have been a better outcome, the comment goes:
This article runs counter to the supposed ‘established wisdom’ that the coup was a CIA-orchestrated plot to remove President Erdogan from power. According to this ‘established wisdom’ Erdogan had shown himself to be independent of Washington, but, thankfully, Russian intelligence learned of the planned coup and warned Erdogan, allowing him to thwart the coup
Given that 3 years later, after more than 8 years of infiltration by many thousands more takfiris through Turkey into Syria and now, Turkey’s invasion of Syria, how could things possibly have turned out worse if Russian intelligence had not warned Erdogan and the coup had succeeded?

I was kinda thinking the same thing.
I guess you would instead have Turkey towing the US line far more closely, with "big brother" providing even more support for their "little brother" ISIS and AlNusra moderate head choppers.
At least with Erdogan there is a loose cannon, a potentially volatile unknown and unpredictable factor in play that has it's own unaligned agenda.
Don't think so. The coup was carried out by officers and officials who don't have Ottoman reviving dreams and are caliph wannabes. That's one, they are anti Muslim Brotherhood, the anti-Islamic international criminal organization, which means even if they were very hostile to Syria they'll say so and not act like the backstabber this rabid freak is.
It would have been also good for the Palestinians who would not be fooled by the words of Erdogan who is the main supporter of Israel.
