China to ban citizens with bad 'social credit' rating from taking flights or using trains for up to a year

China said it will begin applying its so-called social credit system to flights and trains and stop people who have committed misdeeds from taking such transport for up to a year.

People who would be put on the restricted lists included those found to have committed acts like spreading false information about terrorism and causing trouble on flights, as well as those who used expired tickets or smoked on trains, according to two statements issued on the National Development and Reform Commission’s website on Friday.

Those found to have committed financial wrongdoings, such as employers who failed to pay social insurance or people who have failed to pay fines, would also face these restrictions, said the statements which were dated 2 March.

It added that the rules would come into effect on 1 May.

Sounds kind of reasonable right? You smoke on a train we're going to ban you for getting on trains for a while for not following the rules. The only problem is you give government these kinds of powers and they will always, 100% of the time abuse them because that's just the nature of government and this is communist China we are talking about so surely no good will come from this.

I don't think this is a coincidences either that the Chinese leader just became a dictator for life and now he's implementing this policy. Clearly a form of social control that Hitler himself would be proud of. Remember the yellow stars Jews had to wear in Nazi Germany? Now it's going to happen in China digitally.

What's going to happen when your social score is too low or the dictator of China decides to 'clean house'?

I already know what is going to happen because history is repeating itself right now.

Our Purpose

Hey, if they want to break rules, why not let them leave? Why keep them?

Funny thing about communist systems is they treat you like crap but don't want you to leave and possible succeed in another country either.

Of course... Socialism and Communism lead to one huge monolithic monopoly while one of their go to attacks against capitalism is to talk about the bad aspects of monopolies, when those monopolies pale in comparison to the monopoly of communism.

The system of social credit in China is an exceptionally bad thing; this is just part of a general pattern of other countries turning a blind eye to human rights abuses, corruption, and aggression - all because we want/need Chinese money to keep our economies running.

China plays by thier own rules. In the West most people have no idea how authoritarian the Chinese government is. Weibo, Alibaba and Baidu are all just glorified commercial arms of the government. The Chinese are continuously tightening their grip on power and I fear that the social credit system will only intensify.

A Chinese-style Black Mirror. What could possibly go wrong?

I was thinking that myself. What a disturbing place China will become.

Yeah, a system where your reputation, as decided by a system put in place by the most powerful people in that same system, can change what you are able to do - that does sound pretty bad.

I mean, that would be like stopping people with a low Steem reputation from uploading pictures....Oh well, the main thing is that Steemit is controlled by a small circle of rich cryptocurrency investors, and not a government.

A social credit score that will be used to limit plane and train travel, and later ability to buy and sell. This is why I'm against the notion of a cashless society. You can be turned off and made marginal at the flip of a switch. We should fight cashless society and driverless cars.

which is why crypto-currency is so important to combat centralized control.

Look at how the establishment media is polishing this turd. BBC just wrote an article, playing up how it scores "people's honesty". The same turd-polishing that they're doing on trying to chip us. I will fight it with every round of ammunition I have.

Where did reality go?

Look I understand your point and am not in total disagreement but - why not give them the benefit of doubt? So far the Chinese system seems to be working and her citizens are happy, at least that's what some pools tell us. So let's at least wait to see where it all ends.

Ever been to China and one of its public buildings and have hundreds of pictures taken while you are there? Ever talked to a Chinese citizen about their feelings of the government? I have done both. They don't like it at all. They simply live with it and try to ignore them as much as possible and mind their business. They don't like not being free to search the entire internet. Ever wonder why Chinese wealth continues to leave for countries where they can park their cash and live a better life?

Hmmm fair point. Guess as humans we ultimately yearn for freedom.

Why don't you ask the buddhist in Tibet how they feel about being oppressed and killed by the Communist Chinese. Ask them if they like fearing for their lives for practicing their religion.

I really think it is a good thing, I don't like communism or socialism, but I often take the plane in and out of China and the behavior of Chinese are really from outer space. They really need to learn how to behave in public.

Black Mirror should not be a how to for scociety.....

Season 3-Episode 1, Nosedive
Using eye implants and mobile devices, people rate their online and in-person interactions on a five-star scale. This system cultivates insincere relationships, as a person's rating significantly affects their socioeconomic status. Lacie is a young woman currently rated at 4.2 and keen to achieve self-improvement, hoping to reach a 4.5 rating to qualify for a discount to a luxury apartment. Lacie tries to gain favour from highly-rated people, as they have larger impacts on scores, and sees a great chance to achieve her goal, when school friend Naomi asks her to be maid-of-honour at her upcoming wedding, with many highly-rated guests. After a series of mishaps on her way to the wedding that send her ratings plummeting, Naomi calls Lacie and tells her not to come. Enraged, Lacie manages to get to the celebratory dinner; she grabs the microphone and starts giving the speech she had written. The guests rate her negatively, causing her rating to drop to zero. She becomes dangerously upset and security removes her from the area. She is placed in a cell and has the technology supporting the rating system removed from her eyes. Feeling liberated, she gets into an argument with a man, without worrying about being rated.

They are probably pissed this system isn't being implemented in the USA.
