Beekeeper & now a Steemer too!

in #introduceyourself8 years ago

Greetings to all of the people on Steemit! I am here to introduce myself and start my buzzing adventure within the Steemit community.

First of all, I am from the wonderful United States of America and I live on the Atlantic coast. My name is Kris and I am an Engineer. This is me...

Of my many hobbies, my most favorite of all is being a beekeeper, hence my Steemit name being "Beehive". My plan is to post some videos and other items related to beekeeping, as well as other subjects. I hope you all find honey bees as interesting as I do! Call me nutty, but my bees are actually very cute & fuzzy & I promise to convince you of this fact...

To conclude, I would like to say that I hope some people can learn how wonderful honey bees are and how important they are to the planet. I will try to keep it mesmerizing for all who are interested and prove to you all that honeybees are all the buzz.

Welcome and oh wow to cute and fuzzy. I'll take your word on that but from a distance...lol. As for bees in general you never hear much talk about them outside of the animated bee on the Cheerios box. I can say I learned more from an episode of Shark Tank about just how necessary they are for the ecosystem as a whole. Have a great weekend.

Hi & thanks. Trust me they are cute! I hardly ever get stung.

Super cute. Thank you

:-D You're welcome! :-D

Bee's are amazing insects! I had two hives and then lost them last winter. Sad, I miss having them around. I going to start back up next season. I make mead from the honey. (so good).

I have never tried to make mead, but I have watched many Youtube videos on the process. Hope you are able to get some new hives.

Welcome to Steemit @beehive and thanks for bringing attention to such an important subject. Without Bees we would have little chance for existence.

Hi & thanks! Bees are important & make for a great hobby.

Thanks...will do.

Followed! I live off-grid and am interested in sustainability & getting into honey bees in next few years. I post my projects and stuff

You should definitely get into honey bees. There is an upfront cost to getting started, but it's really a wonderful & fascinating thing to experience. They do take time & it is a thinking person's hobby, but that doesn't seem as if it would be a problem for you. Also, I like your chickens, I moved & had to get rid of mine & I miss them terribly.

Honey and maple syrup are on the list! Right now bumblebees and wild honey bees are pollinating my garden+ trees. They did great pollinating the peaches this year! Is it possible to lure wilds bees into a hive box to share their honey?
The chickens are my closest followers! After dog ;)

If you find a swarm and are able to catch it you can certainly start your own hive. I am on the local swarm catcher list so that I get notified if someone needs a swarm removed. It's a great thing because it's a free hive & a strong one being that they have swarmed. FYI: the queen leaves with the swarm, so you have all you need but the hive box.
