Where to begin? Introduce yourself they said. So easy to say so difficult to do.
Start at the beginning and see where it takes you.
After some thought I decided to start at the end - well not so much the end but the here and now. Who I am, how I got here and what I do.

I'll start with the first and last, how I got here may take a little longer.

Who am I ? My name is Sandra. I'm married, have three adult children, 2 sons and a daughter. All have left home but live locally. Local being a small market town in South Devon England.
What do I do? I'm a hobby breeder of traditional and pure breed poultry (Heritage) selling hatching eggs, chicks and POL hens.I also sell eating eggs at the garden gate, specializing in mutli colour eggs.
I have a Facebook page and website and also chat on Twiiter - all as Bellecrosshens

How I got here. Farming, country life and growing food for the family is in my genes and runs though my blood. My roots are deep in the rich red soil of Devon. For generations past my family have been farmers. My grandfather broke the mould by becoming a blacksmith, farrier and wheelwright. I returned to the farming life working as a herdswoman, milking cows on a dairy farm until I married. My husband is from generations of builders but they have always provided the meat, vegetables and fruit from the land for their families. Our small holding (homestead) has been in his family since 1904

I think that sums me up. I'll go into more detail in my following posts. Now to work out how to add photos.

Welcome, do you farm with those chickens?

Hi, thanks for the welcome. Yes in a small way.I breed various rare and traditional breed hens, selling their hatching eggs, chicks and POL birds but I also have a small flock of 50 laying hens whose eggs I sell at the gate.I also keep Guinea Fowl and until recently Quail.

Oh wow, that is quite impressive. It must quite a lot of work. Hopefully you can make some more money on Steemit :)

Welcome to steemit! Glad to see you. I might have a little tip for you that was passed along to me when I arrived. I see that your thumbnail picture is grayed out. That is because you have parenthesis ( ) in your picture file. Look at the, I don't know what to call it, code or file name or whatever that the uploaded picture makes when you are typing up your post and remove the ( ). Haha, hope you can decipher this "tip". Sorry, I'm not up to speed with the technical terms.

Thank you I wondered why there was no picture

Thank you so much it worked !!!!!

Yay! I can't remember who helped me when I first showed up just a couple months ago. But I would have never figured that out on my own. So glad you were able to figure out what I was trying to say.

Welcome, Sandra. I think introductory posts are always rather difficult as it's usually a struggle to talk about ourselves and our lives in a way that seems really interesting to others. I always think to myself, "Who on earth would be interested in me and my life?"

In the end, we're all probably a lot more fascinating than we give ourselves credit for.

Thank you for the welcome. I can talk about chickens all day but myself - no.

Hi, lovely to meet you Sandra. I see you breed one of my favorite hens, cream legbars. They're not officially in Australia, although some have managed to recreate them from golden legbars.

I love Devon. We used to holiday there when we could afford it and lived in the UK.

If you don't mind I would like to invite you to look into our homesteaders group, information is here:
https://steemit.com/steemithomesteaders/@greenacrehome/announcement-steemithomesteaders-slack-community

I've found them to be a very supportive community and I'm not sure if I'd be as active on here without their support and encouragement.

Hi, Thanks for the link I will definitely take a look.I need all the help I can get ! The Cream Legbars are super, mine are still laying , although moulting when many of my other heritage breeds have stopped. There is much work to be done on the breed over here so many bad examples.
Where in the UK did you live and which part of Devon did you visit? I'll follow your post with interest

We're from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
I can't actually remember where in Devon we visited. I guess it's been longer than I realised! Lol! Mostly we went for the sea. It's so much clearer there. As a child, Skegness was always the beach were went to. Lovely brown water!

You did great Sandra! I love your intro! Looking forward to more! Your chickens are pretty! Thanks for joining us here on steemit!

Thanks Rose I feel a little out of control as though everything is going so fast and I'm stumbling to catch up.
