RE: Forced to be here. Kind of..

Well, hello @bettyboob and welcome to Steemit! "Sort of forced," were you? Not the first time I have heard that... those of us who are... ehmmm... "addicted" of course think we've found the greatest little oasis on the web.

But here's the basic idea why this place is cool-- it's a lot more authentic and interesting than the likes of Facebook, Instagram and all that; people here (if you take a little time to look around) actually have real conversations about real things, something more than someone posting a meme and a dozen people saying "me too" and adding smileys.

Now a lot of people talk about "making money," and that's true... but you live in the Netherlands and that's a pretty high living standard, but yes you can make money to go buy a beer or maybe a dinner. But part of the beauty of Steemit is also that people who live in places like Nigeria or Viet Nam are actually having their lives changed because $50 a month is a big change in their life.

But that's also part of what makes this fun and interesting... it's a truly GLOBAL community. Where other social media seems to group into little flocks of "we're all the same," here everybody connects with everybody else.

Anyways, welcome... just getting started on my day here on the West Cost, USA... although I am actually from Denmark, originally!
