Be careful about being too polite on steemit (at first). Every interaction you make (post, comment, upvote) costs you. RC (resource credits) are used every time you post or comment. They regenerate over time, but if you run out you can't post or comment until they build up again. You can check your levels here: https://steemd.com/@hockney you'll see you are running low. Save your RC by NOT saying thank you to people who comment. We'll understand you are not being rude. Also your upvotes aren't worth much. Vote on posts not comments for now (and only 10 per day at 100%). Now, don't thank me for this advice! :)

I forgot to explain why not vote on comments. Any payout that is less than 2cents doesn't get paid out (it goes back in voting pool. Your vote at the moment is what we call "dust" so less than the 2 cent payout. It is unlikely that others will upvote a comment as well so your vote on that comment is wasted "dust". But if you vote on a post, it will join others votes and the dust piles up! Hope that helps (don't answer!) ;)
