Right On!
Having had Steemit attempt to self-destruct mere hours after my first post, I'd like to apologise and write the required introductory note.
I've been working in broadcasting and software for broadcasting for the last 30 years. It's led me to jobs in London, Sydney, Hong Kong and New York, but these days I'm settled in West London with my partner Janet Gover and a deranged cat named Humphrey.
Along the way I've seen more concerts than is good for me, and amassed a collection of over 300 t-shirts. I've got vinyl form its first time around (but not the second), many CDs, and the odd download, but the live experience is where it's at. I also play guitar badly but with enthusiasm. I'm better at mixing live sound, which I can be found doing most Sunday nights at TwickFolk, where the not-very-folky nature of my shirts has raised comments.
Gaming is a relatively new hobby, which grew out of me always losing at Scrabble. An introduction to Carcassonne led to a three-year addiction to the game for which we are still in recovery. Now we have a good collection of deck-building games and the odd board game as well.
I've been a member of CAMRA since before I could legally drink and will cheerfully lecture you on real ale and proper pubs given half a chance.
The one thing this photo lacks is a book - I read sci-fi, and autobiographies and beat writers and have even been known to read a Mills & Boon (purely to assist the author-wife in her research).
Why am I here on Steemit? Stevec suggested it as a way to expand readership of my t-shirt posts and maybe get aa little back in some way. let's see. Now, if I can just carve out more time to read other people's posts here...
Welcome to Steemit @hockney!
And I'd love to know how to centre the image. I thought that was the default?
Use html tags... center.. and /center to remove. Place these in < >. I cant give you a proper example as it takes it literally.
Thank you! I should have worked that out for myself, really.
If it helps, here's a quick markdown chart I found very helpful to quickly rise my post value, from an honorable Steemian, @blevley.
Welcome to Steemit!
Thank you @hockney for sharing!
Looking forward to your posts. Especially on some decent ales!
Thanks Steve!
@bingbabe (my wife) has a thing for Mills and Boon, but I wouldn't expect a bloke to be a fan. The Greeks Billionaire's Mistress' Slave..., The Italian Stud's Bed... she gets pissed off with me when read over her shoulder... haha...
Those t-shirts at concerts can be quite unique, get them while you can, and get early to gigs or they may not have your size.
I think i managed 3 M&B before pleading for reprieve. Janet tells me there are sone good writers on their books, and those I've met have been very smart women (and men). Men do read category romance, and in theory no book or other art form can be only suitable for a single gender. But I'd rather read Iain M. Banks!
Welcome to Steem @hockney.
Do read A thumb rule for steemit minnows - 50:100:200:25 for starter tips.
Spend time reading Steem Blue Paper to know how Steem blockchain works and if you still have any queries ask them on our Ask me anything about Steemit post and we will try to answer that.
All the Best!!!
You're very welcome and I'm not blaming you for Steemit going down. There are some romantic writers here, so maybe there's opportunities for Janet too. Hope to see more of your shirts here soon.
Welcome to Steemit :) I wasn't around too much last week so didn't notice you break it.
@steevc got me on here also ... it too can become a little addictive.
Thanks Stav!
Welcome to Steemit, we expect a lot from you.
Successes!

Thanks Bruce!
Be careful about being too polite on steemit (at first). Every interaction you make (post, comment, upvote) costs you. RC (resource credits) are used every time you post or comment. They regenerate over time, but if you run out you can't post or comment until they build up again. You can check your levels here: https://steemd.com/@hockney you'll see you are running low. Save your RC by NOT saying thank you to people who comment. We'll understand you are not being rude. Also your upvotes aren't worth much. Vote on posts not comments for now (and only 10 per day at 100%). Now, don't thank me for this advice! :)

I forgot to explain why not vote on comments. Any payout that is less than 2cents doesn't get paid out (it goes back in voting pool. Your vote at the moment is what we call "dust" so less than the 2 cent payout. It is unlikely that others will upvote a comment as well so your vote on that comment is wasted "dust". But if you vote on a post, it will join others votes and the dust piles up! Hope that helps (don't answer!) ;)
