My Self Introduction: A Personal Genesis

Hello

My last name is Burns, and this is my #IntroduceYourself (and hence, first) post on SteemIt. As I understand it, trust seems to be something of a commodity here, so I must ask for your forgiveness - It is out of habitual fear that I don't share my full name or face reveal. It is my hope that will not impede my ability fully to find my slice of the pie on SteemIt, or hinder you in your evaluation of my words. There is a power in ambiguity, after all.

Who I Am

I am a teenage male currently residing in the Midwest of the US, but was raised along the shores of the Chesapeake Bay (the bay is, at the very least, where I identify my childhood to reside). I am an INTP political moderate (primarily conservative) and completely open to discourse considering my views. My experience with social media entails having ran (both on Instagram) an unsuccessful photography page, and a meme page that was deleted at 24.6k followers. Both were worth the experiences in their own right, but were also experiments not meant to last. I am, as far as I can tell, more of a polymath in subject matter and behavior than the average person my age. My interests have carried me to geology, paleontology, wetlands ecology, martial arts, poetry, philosophy, photography, Native American history, psychology, theology, and most recently - the world of the horse. I (relatively) recently purchased a rescue Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse.
The themes and style included in my poetry are inspired by Pablo Neruda, Elisavietta Ritchie, and Wendell Berry (I have been told, at the very least). My modus operandi for photography, so to speak, has prototypically been to capture simple (but not minimalist) photos and edit them to have a more washed-out and melancholic feel.
If it is of any value to you, I admire and look up to the minds of Diogenes, Marcus Aurelius, Carl Jung, Teddy Roosevelt, John Steinbeck, and the Canadian clinical psychologist Jordan B. Peterson.

I'm not gonna lie - my initial motivation to join SteemIt was when I had learned that influence and the exchange of ideas had become monetized. After having read up a bit more, I realized SteemIt is more than just that. From what I have seen already, SteemIt proves itself to be a social medium and a place where I can nestle in a young community. I believe this might be the final path I travel on with social media, for a long time at least.

What You Can Expect

Unfortunately, with the many diverse investments in different themes that I have, I can promise no rigid consistency in subject matter for my posts. HOWEVER, I can promise quality in said subject matter. I think I will have one post dedicated once a week for poetry, one for photography, and one for an essay on politics or psychology. I will gladly take any recommendations, suggestions, or tips to getting started.
And, a final request for people who have somehow made it this far into the post: If my self-description calls to mind the account of someone similar (even yourself), could you point me their way? My first goal is to find and embed myself in a worthwhile community.

Many Thanks

Well, if you like memes and were good with them, @dmania will be the right rain to step on for you ;) Resteemed you for some publicity! Greets

Welcome, this is a great community and you can do great things here

I can recommend a couple of things

You have to be patient, at first it is very frustrating to see that your publication only has a couple of votes or visits, but it is normal, do not despair, you are starting no one knows who you are or about your work, continuing the preseverance has its rewards.

Be yourself, this is something very important, do not try to be someone else, show the world that you have something special that you can share with them.

Your vote has a power that you can not imagine, use it wisely, vote for those contents that you really like and with moderation, your vote loses power if you are new, do not vote more than 10 times a day.

Do not vote for yourself, or try to do little, your vote as I said has power, reward those who are doing a great job and you like it, you expect others to do that for you;).

Have fun you have friends and share with them

If you need help you can ask many of us started like you, we had no idea what to do or not do
XD

I thank you plenty for the tips! I apologize for my vote not being worth anything. I'll make it up to you in future interactions, I promise.

I wish you good luck on steem!

Hello, I'm Oatmeal Joey, and I was or maybe still am kind of like an INTP and I am sometimes outgoing too but I am more shy by default or more so when I was younger. I am from Oregon and was in West Virginia and my brother was in Texas. I like to write poetry, songs, and stuff. I knew a girl from Kentucky. Very cool. I like farms. I wish I had my own farm and a horse. Maybe I will get a farm someday. And philosophy is fundamental to so many things and learning it helps humanity.

Oregon, WV, and Texas? Makin' me jealous! The US is geographically diverse, and I love every inch of it. But I must admit, the mossy temperate rainforests, Appalachians, and potential for desert? I might just love those a bit more :)

I love forest so much. The Grand Canyon is interesting. But I would not want to live in the desert forever.

Hey there: I like your promise near the end here to deliver quality--because that’s what struck me throughout the entire post: your quality of writing. Glad to have you steemit, hope you go far! By the way, here are some tips that helped me getting started. See you around I’m sure. @lilyraabe

Welcome to this awesome community, thanks for taking your time to introduce yourself and more power to you. =)

Welcome to Steemit. You have a wide range of reading/experiences and I look forwards to reading some of your contributions where our interests overlap. I too am new here, joining two days ago. I have found the community to be welcoming, with several random acts of generosity for which I am thankful and in awe.

As to your desire for anonymity, not for myself or others to judge based on that. If your words hold value they will stand on their own.

It will be difficult if you can't verify your account, but hopefully you will be able to do it. I'm interested to see what you have in store for us.

Welcome to Steem!

I understand completely the desire to know there is breathing human behind the faceless monitor. I understand it might appear a little childish, but I unfortunately have a bad track record with privacy online.
I very much appreciate your welcome!

One suggestion though, don't vote for own comments. It is generally frowned upon on Steem. Let other people upvote yours.

I was just wondering with what connotation that might be perceived, haha! Duly noted and will not do so in the future. Better to learn early than late - when it matters.

Actually, on topic of votes, do you mind if I ask a quick question? Where I come from, on Instagram, likes are dished out rather arbitrarily and you do not necessarily have to be invested in the liked comment/post for it to be worthy of one. How do you allocate your votes daily, knowing they are limited? Do you tend to refrain from voting on comments, or perhaps be very selective on posts? Or, do you upvote most everything out of courtesy?

I'm not sure what the exact limit for getting the vote power slider is, but since a while ago, I personally invested a sizable sum into Steem Power, I can now vote quite liberally using only 5% of my voting power each time and still have a somewhat financially efficient vote without exhausting it right away.

The new users' vote is always at 100%, at least on Steemit, so it gets wasted quite fast. Although with that much steem power it doesn't really matter if it does.

I used to upvote almost everything, but these days I have a standard I try to uphold. You can read about it here and here.

In a nutshell I am very generous with my upvotes, but also try to keep my downvote strict but fair.

Hello, @horzymandias, and welcome to Steemit.

There are many Steemians who do not go by their actual names on this platform.

Certain others will say that it's so important to be honest and to clearly identify ourselves, but as you may have heard, someone else once questioned "What's in a name," and concluded, not much.

From reading your intro, it's clear that you are a reasonable, decent person, with varied interests. Therefore, you could call yourself Charles Manson, or even Marilyn Manson, and I'd follow you and read your posts.

As for a community, what generally happens is that one will slowly but surely develop your own community here -- as embed oneself in an already established community. But you are correct in that Steemit is more of a community than a network. Or maybe, a collection of overlapping communities.

That's it for now. Full Steem Ahead.

I found it especially odd that among a platform centered around cryptocurrency, of all things, people should still prioritize openness over privacy, as arbitrary as it is. I give you my many thanks for the warm welcome and following - I reciprocate it, for what is worth.

Welcome to Steemit! I am also very passionate when it comes to topics like ecology, philosophy, psychology, photography, history, theology and poetry! I am very excited to read what your profile is about to offer. I am also new on steemit and I intend to start write soon about my experiences and all these topics I am widely interested in. You have got my follow :D

Well, then you have my following as well! From what I've seen, SteemIt looks like a tough platform to get adjusted to and established on - however, I think the rewards will be more than worth it. Us little accounts gotta' stick together. I, too, look forwards to your coming posts.

Couldn't agree more!

Nice! Of all the people that have commented on my post so far, you are the first one that piqued my interest enough to follow back. I sort of think that there is a community of followers that just do it in hopes that you follow them back.

I am quite surprised that you are a teenager. You didn't once use "ur", "kk", or "bae" in this post. You are quite skilled in the use of vocabulary.

Anyways, keep up the good work.

Welcome! I see we share a lot of interests. Do you fancy stoicism?

I do agree with the majority of the beliefs found in Stoicism. In particular, I agree wholeheartedly with the ideas that "virtue is sufficient for happiness", or that the wisest men of all are those who are immune to the misfortunes of the world. That being said, I have a love-hate relationship with the later iterations of stoicism where it ties in with some of the more "Desert Father-y" interpretations - e.g. a person should rid themselves of all passion, emotion, and basically become a crumbled ascetic leaf left to the mercy of the wind.

It sounds like you have had a lot of life experience considering you are a teen age male. I am very impressed you have found so much meaning in life already; I can imagine that Steemit is going to be an excellent outlet for your expression and I am looking forward to reading more of your work.

I welcome you to the platform this is amazing poetryUp Voted
