A good friend of mine once made the point that Christianity is simply a voluntary contract with God. I think that's a great way of laying it out for the voluntaryists out there that have this view that it's somehow slavery to a ruler.
At a much less important level, people sign a voluntary contract with a business as an employee to be ruled. That's their choice. That's their right. On a much larger level when it comes to life in general, there is nothing coercive about a voluntary contract with God if that is how you feel.

Exactly, it is voluntary.
This is why I put the "Bible Thumper" part in my post. I was exposed to a step grandmother who was one of those. In looking back I believe she meant well, but my take on it was that if that's what a "Christian" is, I don't want any part of it. That was when I was 15 or 16 I think. It took me 30 some years to come to a true realization of what a follower of Christ is, and I am just as surprised that I am now a follower. Thanks for your insight.
