Hi friends,
My friends call me Krit but my account name is Kaminchun which is the name of my farm house in Nongkhai. I am in the transition phase between a city dweller and a full-time self-sufficiency villager in the north-east of Thailand. Nongkhai is a small and peaceful border town to Laos, via the Mae Khong River.
This is a magical and rather old place with lots of fantastic legends and mythical stories going back for at least a thousand year. Several years ago, I traveled to see my old friend in Nongkhai. Then, one day I found myself becoming a land owner and starting to build a farm house. I am thinking of building a rain water system in July.
So, I live in Bangkok and do my gardening in Nongkhai. My favourite routine is to walk along the River in the evening and take some pictures. There are so many things to be done on the farm. Luckily I have a very nice local villager to help out weekly. Occasionally, a team of builders would be needed for the heavy work. Living in the countryside is a whole new experience for me.
Friends from the big city could not believe that I could change my lifestyle like this.
It is so nice to be with nature, waking up by the noises of birds quarreling in the trees, having breakfasts while looking at the river, looking at the sunsets, counting the stars at night and walking meditation under the full moon. It is an ideal place to become my little retreat center along the line of the Krishnamurti Center.
The north-east of Thailand (which is called Esan, for short) is full of historical places. I only started to explore Esan during the last two years. There is so much to see and explore in Esan, this will be on my list for next year.
Steemit is fantastic for me, this will force me to learn and acquire new skills, open up a new dimension of living! Looking forward to learning new things, wisdom, knowledge, skills, creativity...
Wishing all members of the community lots of joy and prosperity!
Hi @kaminchan, welcome to the community!
Your pictures are beautiful and that alone earned you my upvote! It is a breath of fresh air to hear how you stepped out of your comfort zone in order to reach new heights in life. We so often get distracted by the noise of the world and in turn, we miss the sweetest things nature has to offer. Sunsets, raindrops, clouds, and the melodic sounds of the wind are just a few of the free beauties nature has to offer, but is often overlooked. Good luck on your new journey!
Thank you very much. I am off to do some gardening this weekend and to check out the returning green snake. My friend reported that she has grown to two meters long. All the best!
Hi @kaminchan i introduced you in one of my posts as well check it out if you can thanks.

Welcome to the club @kaminchan! I sent you a tip.
Hey, many thanks @hottestnews. I still don't know what to do with all that aspect. I have a lot to read and learn.

Welcome to Steem @kaminchan I have sent you a tip
Thank you very much. I am still a bit confused with all the buttons, tags, instructions, etc. I am used to talking to trees too much.
Thanks! Things are happening too fast. I am still reading and learning. I haven't read anything on wallet yet. How could you all cope? I still don't know how to use a smart phone, really ashamed of myself.
Don't worry about it @kaminchan! You will very quickly pick it up. I have been here about 2 weeks and at first learning about steemit required motivation, but now I am on autopilot. You'll soon feel like you belong here, which is an accurate feeling!
What he said!
All of the above!
Nice Article. Welcome to Steemit. I wish you much success. I am now following your blog. Cheers.
image from google imaging. I created the word STEEMIT
Amazing! Mr. Spox! My God! live long and prosper! No way! Very psychic of you.
I actually took two pictures with the cigar-shape ufo and two cirlce silvery balls high up in the sky in Nongkhai, not knowing what they were until I searched the Internet.
hmm. That is interesting. I took a pic of a silvery disk back in 2003 over Dulce, NM. This stuff is real. I look forward to your posts.
WOW! This is a bit unreal, but this is reality. I will have to find those two pictures for you. This weekend I am doing gardening in my farm house. It's rainy season with thunderstorm and strong wind. My helper just told me she saw two meter long green snake a few days ago, and two small geckos just dropped dead!
Welcome to Steemit @kaminchan Upvoted and following. I hope we can be friends :)
Hi @yeobo. Thank you for your support. Certainly, we should be friends, good friends for a long, long time.

I was up in Mukdahan last week. Welcome to steem.
Well! I haven't been there yet. But I intend to do the whole circuit along the road by the Mae Khong one day. Have you managed to find the colourful Mukdahan pebbles? In the past, one could just dish them out of the river. Nowadays, traders have taken them from the riverbed and polish them for ring settings.
This is the first time I've heard of these pebbles. Maybe next time I go there.
Welcome to steemit! I have upvoted you. Beautiful pictures I look forward to seeing more and learning about your area. Good for you for following your dream.
Thank you@lkt. Tell us more about spices and vitamins. Have a great day!

Welcome to steemit! I live "off-grid" in the mountainous region of North Carolina in the eastern side of the USA. I am quite interested in watching your posts about a similar lifestyle, but in a completely different part of the world!
Your intro post made me decide to like you already! I prefer to read and follow people who seem legit and real and you totally seem to score in those areas well so far! -Your newest follower, @SirCork
Thank you very much for your encouragement! I am starting at zero in terms of gardening and living self-sufficiently. But I knew I just had to do this, give it a go! I am not off grid as you, @SirCork.
When the electricity went down for two full days in May, my dear helper had to come to my farm house to get drinking water from my water tank. She even had to take her shower using my rain water. For me, no hot food for two days! Still learning. I need a camping stove!
I shower with spring water, and it's COLD! Always!
I highly recommend a butane camping stove if you can get one. Very efficient and easy to use, compared to white fuel and propane. Similar in cost for occasional useand much cleaner and easier to deal with than liquid fuels. I use this exact model all the time as my main cooking tool - mostly I cook coffee lol It boils a full size coffee pot in about two minutes. Super fast heat. I have seen them and clones that are probably fine (its not a complex device) for around $20 USD online - amazon and major sporting good suppliers
Many thanks @sircork. I will visit the camping-gears shops soon. But I already got a liquid gas burner for back-up. Another electricity blackout last weekend in Nongkhai. Perhaps, I have to start thinking about solar panels this year. I wish I had thirty hours a day!
Only 30 hours per day? You must be lazy! :D I need 300 hours a day!
Sawatdee khrap! Welcome to Steemit. I've been to northern Thailand many times but never to Nongkhai. Maybe next trip I'll take a bike trip there. Looks beautiful.
Sabai-dee?! That's how to say greetings in Laos. I am learning to speak the local dialect.
Well, if you haven't been to this area in Esan, you don't know what you are missing! The road connection runs along the River to the North and down to the East. It's a very picturesque route.
Sabai dee khrap. Yeah I heard Lao and Thai are very similar.
Next time I'm in north Thailand I'll definitely ask my friend in Chiang Rai if he wants to take a trip with me to Esan. He's been there many times.
One of my students here in Japan is a farmer and actually went to Thailand a couple of years ago to study some farming techniques. So I'll be following your blog to let her know of anything you post that might be of interest to her.
Hi @kendewitt. Just got back to BKK, and has been greeted by a rainy storm now. Traffic jam!
I am not planting rice, just various friut trees and local herbs for consumption. It is difficult to make money from self-sufficiency, I am just contented to be with nature and do my gardening.
Welcome to Steemit! - I'm following U, now, & am looking forward to your future posts..... I'd be humbly honored to have you follow me @doctormegazilla... Take Care!
Yay! A fellow off-grid phenom to follow! I look forward to more of your gorgeous pictures.
Thanks @oddnugget. Have a prosperous and wonderful time with Steemit world!

Thank you very much, @larksongbird. My small IXUS camera is getting old, but the lens is still sharp.
I am an amateur in photography, so only some shots happened to be fairly presentable. New Zealand. WOW! The Lords of the Rings! Dragons!
Yeah it is like that with photography, sometimes you get one and go "wow, did I take that!"
What a beautiful life and beautiful pictures @kaminchan! Welcome to the community!
Thank you, @joshua-pace. I hope you'll have lots of success and prosperity in this new dimension!
It's all still very new to me. A lot to be read and comprehend, all these new grammar, concepts, values. As if these explorers are building up a new culture, new world dimension.
well said :) Cheers
