Aspire to inspire - Let me introduce myself

Well hello there and welcome to my page!

I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of the Steemit community.

To give you a little bit of an insight on who I am, my name is Sabrina and I am a 21 year old french Canadian girl living in Montreal! My purpose in this world is to make a significant difference into people's lives. We live in a society designed in a way to make us feel depressed and I could spend hours talking about this because mental health has played a big role in my life as I have been struggling with a psychotic depression for many years. Luckily, after 3 years of battling it, I somehow managed to find my way out of the depts and began to see clarity again! I could make a whole other post devoted to that since it's something so close to my heart. This actually leads me to talk about my absolute favourite thing in the world, which is also the main reason that I got out of my depression...
Running! I have been involved in all kinds of sports since my young age. From AA soccer, to basket-ball, to being a ballet dancer, being an athlete is something that is in my blood! For the past couple of years, I decided to focus only on running. I was a competitive track&field runner for a long time, but 3 years ago, I decided to ditch the tracks and start doing it for fun, without the heavy pressure that comes with competitions and all. And it's hands down the best decision I have ever made! Catch me if you can!

Working out is only one side of the medal... Controlling what you put in your plate for the next 24 hours is the real challenge! And slowly but surely, I'm starting to master it. I would love to do a ''What I eat in a day'' type of post! What do you guys think? I could also incorporate organic foods because I really noticed a difference from eating only natural foods.

When I'm not doing all of that jazz... I like to pretend Im a model....pose sab.jpg

No but for real I was only trying to show off my brand new Lacoste sneakers!!

Thanks so much guys for taking the time to read my first post!
Stick around to see if I can fulfill your healthy lifestyle fix!

Much love,

Sab

Awwww thanks for the warm welcome @sukhpreetsingh !! :) xoxoxoxoxox

Hi Sabrina @steemityourway. I live in Ontario but grew up loving Montreal. Maybe because I love the Habs so much.

Anyways, welcome to Steemit! :)

Omg hi!!! No way youre the first Montrealer I find on here!! Go Habs go;)
Oh where about are you in Ontario? I was in Etobikoe last summer! Love it over there!! Its my forever road trip destitation! I went to Elora quarry and Scarborough bluffs, I miss it already haha! And thanks so much!! @freeinthought

I am in Northern Ontario but grew up in Southern Ontario. Now I live in Sudbury. There's a lot of French Canadian in Sudbury (about 30-40% I'd say are francophone or fully bilingual).

I've been a Habs fan though all my life. Ever since the old Quebec / Montreal rivalry days.

No way I had no clue there was such a high percentage of francophones! Thats crazy! Do you speak any french then?;) @freeinthought

No unfortunately I don't. I'm an implant from Southern Ontario where you don't see French too much.

But we enrolled our children all in the French school board from the start and they are fully bilingual.

It's important to me that I make sure my children can speak both Canadian languages, even if I can't so well; n'est ce pas?

Awww wow well said, and thats amazing that you do so with your kidoos! I would do the exact same! Being bilingual is definetly an extra asset especially when it will be time for them to look for jobs!:) @freeinthought

Congrats on finding Steemit, and what a great first post. Simply wow 😳 ... Please keep posting and don't leave!

Omg that is so nice of you to say!:) Thanks a bunch!!!:)

Running helps me a lot too, whenever I get that build up of anxiety and my thoughts turn negative - a run always balances it out! I go running with a group in my village every Tuesday, up into the hills and back. :)

Wow thats amazing! It helps so much with anxiety for sure! Where are you from thats so cool! I used to be part of a team as well, its so much fun.

I'm from the North of England, a little village about half an hour on the train from Manchester. Yeah it's great because you don't get bored, there's always someone to keep up with so it spurs you on. I've only been running with the group for about 2 months but I'm so glad I discovered it!

Oh cool! One love for my british people!:) Thats so true! It helps so much because theres always someone that runs at your pace and you can push eachother to test your limits. Thats awesome, good for you!:)

I just tipped all your comments to get you some extra $$, haha. I'm going away for a few days so I don't need the voting power. So good luck on Steemit, I know you'll do well. And I'll help you as much as I can! =)

Great introductory post!

It's very refreshing to see someone be so open as you, even about your mental illness. I had to look up Psychotic Depression because I didn't know how that differed from regular depression. Smart of you for ditching the competition aspect of sports, I wrestled for 13 years (Age 5-18) so I know all about competition. I still like wrestling to this day and have all the gear and a 10X10 ft mat in my house :)

I am thankful that you got introduced to Steemit and stuck around. Steemit is seriously the best. I love it here too! I bookmarked all your posts that I haven't read (266 to be exact). Steempeak surprisingly handles that many bookmarks like a champ so I am ready to rock and roll now haha. Buckle up!

Oh one more thing. I thought of you with this song concerning your depression. It's called Rescue Me from one of my favorite bands 30 Seconds to Mars. The front man Jared Leto describes the song as:

a song about pain, empowerment, faith and freedom. It's also a song about the brutal war so many of us wage against fear, depression and anxiety in the hope that we might, one day, live a life filled with happiness and dreams.

I hope you like it :)

I can't put in words how blessed and lucky I felt when I saw that you commented on this post. My very first one on this platform. Are you an absolute sweetheart or an absolute sweetheart?💜😘

As for the psychotic depression, first you're way too cute to have googled it up.
In fact, my psychiatrist at the time gave me this diagnosis. It may sound scary a lil but the psychotic part is essentially because I had very intense irrational fears at the time that would prevent me from functioning on a daily basis. I believe (but I'm not 100% sure) that I addressed them in some of my early posts on here, but yeah one of the main ones was that I'd fear being sexually assaulted everywhere I went. Also, I was so scared there'd be attacks on public transportation so I had to stop taking it for a while and in the meantime I stopped going to school. Very dark and hectic time of my life.

Seriously super cool that you are wrestling!! I'd love a wrestlebrina lol:P
It's a shame because I've told myself many years ago that I would sign up to self defense courses of some sort to gain mad confidence and not be scared of anything.
You should post on that. I'd love it!
I remember many years ago I dated a guy who was a pro jiu jitsu and he made me lose consciousness for 10 seconds or so LOL cuz he tried on me a technique. It was pretty impressive:P

Sorry for this long reply lol:P
But thank you so so much for doing this! You have no idea how much it means to me! I even told the people close to me! It doesn't happen everyday to meet such cool and sweet people like you seem to be!
I adore Steemit so much! Writing on here is a passion for me! In all honesty, it's rare that I find people who are truly genuine on here and are not on it for the monetary rewards, and it makes me super happy that you found my profile and that I found yours because you post epic content! And it's not everyday I stumble upon amazing content on here either.

Buckle up shawty, I'm telling you, it's gonna be one heck of a ride!:P
My boy Aoki told me there was lots of turbulence coming your way!:P
You will see lots of changes in the person I am, my writing style, what I write about...
I was a complete different version of myself on this post than the one I am today.

Thanks so much for the song! I'll get back to you on it for sure!

One love!

We are. & thank you, I agree. We should make people understand these are in fact real life issues & not made up problems.

Very true! And its not because theres no pysical evidence of us hurting that we are not in pain! @ladyq

Again, welcome to Steemit!

Awwwww youre the sweetest!!! Thanks so much that means a lot to me!:) Sending some love right back at you:):) @freeinthought

Hey there fellow Canadian, nice post, it really inspired me to make an effort to get back into running again! Any tips for getting back into the habit?
oh and I gave you a follow too!

Awnn thats too nice of you!!:) Thanks a bunch!!!:) I always plan myself a schedule of my week and of each running session I have. Like this, it helps me stay motivated and I avoid giving myself excuses! Oh and also, I use this app called Runkeeper and it keeps track of your mileage, the calories you lose, your pace, I love it!! I dont know if youre into running groups but they help a lot with motivation because theres always someone whos gonna push you to your limits! I would also say that making each workout different is what keeps it fun and why I never get bored of it! Somedays I do intervall running, some other days I hit a long run in the forest, I love to switch it up so I dont hit a plateau. And finally I would say that its important to write down your goals but also to not be too hard on yourself:) Most people give up because they dont give themselves time. The results will come eventually. You just have to be patient and not beat yourself up when you have a less successful training session. To avoid injuries, dont over do it at first because running everyday is not beneficial since you dont allow your muscles to recover. I wish you the best of luck! You should take pictures of your run and I can too, so we can build a Steemit runners community hehe;) xoxoxo @geomagna

No worries, I had been feeling pretty down lately, and the other day I just couldn't take it anymore, I put on my runners (for the first time in easily a year) and did just over a 5k run out of the blue. It felt great, I was empowered, challenged, capable, and it got me out of a little funk, but I haven't ran since then although i have had the urge to. Then after seeing your post, and how running helped you with depression, it really came into focus. Running has always made me feel better in one way or another, and I should take calculated steps towards being a better runner again.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this great advice, i'm setting a short term goal of a small run every other day, and a longer term goal of doing an 8k run soon, oh and I forgot about Runkeeper! I'm lucky that i've got forest trails nearby to mix it up with some trail running, but i've got no one to run with, so i'll defintely look into a running group for that extra push. I'll do my best to incorporate some running updates into my new lil steemit blog, and i'll be sure to give you a shoutout as thanks when I do.
~Thanks again @steemityourway all the best.

Hey @geomagna , thank you so much for taking your time to reply to me so kindly :) And Im sorry for my late reply, your comment never showed up on my account :( But wow I am beyond happy to see that youre starting to get back on track and that running is helping you get out of a funk. The medication and therapy never really helped me personally, however, physical activity is by far the best antidepressant out there.

Youre off to a really good start, just the fact that youre setting goals for yourself and you seem super dedicated says alot about you. Youre too sweet. It will be my pleasure to assist you in your running journey! If theres ever a day where you feel like motivation is not around the corner, feel free to hit me up and ill give you that extra boost to put these joggers on and go out there! Or in the opposite, if youve accomplished a personal best or a goal, let me know as well!:) I wish you the best! You deserve it ! Keep me updated 💗 💗 💦💪

It's my pleasure, and no worries, I was offline all weekend anyways ; ) but I feel like I was a boulder on the edge of a hill, just ready to roll, full of potential energy. All that I needed was a push to start rolling.. well running, but you get it lol

I'm happy to say that i've gone for two decent runs, feeling great about it and so far i'm right on track. Thank you for being so kind, and willing to help people with/through things that you're experienced with, and know first hand that they can be difficult. Thanks for the assistance, hopefully it won't come to me needing another push, but it's real nice to know that it's there! Take care, you're awesome!

Wow these words go straight to my heart!!! thanks so so much!:)
It is sincerely my pleasure. Im on a mission to help people as much as I can because this world only needs more love, compassion and genuine people!

We all need an extra push sometimes. I was an athlete at a high level and even then, I still got days where I felt that I didnt get that much of a good work out in. It will happen but you simply got to keep on doing and pushing and trying and you will eventually break through:)

Really happy to hear that its been going great so far!:) You got this! @geomagna
