One of the challenges of living in Japan is dealing with the weather and the dust or in our case cat hair, that builds up in the house. Since you have your windows closed and the air conditioners either cooling or heating the place for much of the year the air conditioners get pretty dirty, even the high tech, minus ion ones.
Usually I just pop them open, pull the filters and give them a good cleaning, but recently my wife said she could smell mold in one. So we gave the professionals a call to come by and give it a deep cleaning.
My wife was right, further inside the air con, the places not easy to get to, the professional found the mold. He showed it to us before cleaning it out.
It was interesting watching him set up and work. They use a small jet of water and probably some anti-fungal/bacterial cleaner to hose down the inside of the air con. The whole process took him just over two hours and cost about $100.
Now my wife and kids are happy and world peace is just around the corner! Or, at least household peace.

Money well spent as its not nice breathing in mold thru the a/c.
Hope all is well where you are, been watching the news, the weather has been awful in Japan
Yes, mold is bad, bad, bad. Coming from Southern California where it is very dry I'm not used to dealing with the problems humidity creates.
Actually, still in Cali. so I haven't had to deal with the typhoons or quakes. We did this before I left.
Thanks as always @livinguktaiwan.
$100 is a lot of money. but It is good for health to clean an air conditioner. It might be cheep because it takes over 2 hours.
Ah, but $100 can save you a trip to the hospital due to respiratory problems. Thanks to my wife for noticing this because I didn't.
Prevention is the best medicine^^
The equipment looks definitely neat and pro compare to my country.
Really, I thought most of Asia uses these types of air conditioners?
While we do have these in America, most homes use central air. Those units are about 3x the size of your typical Japanese aircon but can heat/cool an entire house. Honestly, for a family, I think central air is more efficient than having 3 separate aircons.
Yes you are right. I think the biggest advantage of central aircon system is that you don't have to deal with the extra space the individual machine is going to occupy.
Looks like cool! おそうじ革命 Tシャツ
