Last week we had eaten tacos and yakitori, but the night was young and we were cold so we decided to move to a BBQ place we had passed by earlier. Time for some good ole American BBQ, or Japanese BBQ in an American looking izakaya.

先週、タコスや焼鳥を食べましたが、夜は若くて寒かったので、早く通過したBBQの場所に移動することに決めました。アメリカの居酒屋でオレのアメリカンバーベキュー、または日本のバーベキューのための時間。

We were seated at the counter looking at the cooks again. I was starting to see a strange pattern in Japan, about 75% of the places we go to they sit up in front of the cooks, even though the majority of the tables were available. I am totally fine with it, but I am wondering what their motivations were.

As we sat down we both looked at each outer and laughed because in the counter were precious rocks, like amethyst, rose quartz, sodalite and others. The owner was obviously a collector.

Anyway, we went a bit crazy here, starting of course with beer! I was stoked they had Sam Adams, an easy to drink lager. My wife had a shochu cocktail. Then we ordered meat and a bunch of unhealthy stuff like pizza, onion rings and pickled vegetables!

The food was actually really good. The steak skewer was delicious. The onion rings were really light and the batter was only an accessory to the onion. It added just a bit of flavor and were very easy to eat. The pizza was surprisingly delicious too. Of course my wife loved the pickled vegetables and forced me to eat some, meh they were ok.

食べ物は実際には本当に良かった。ステーキの串はおいしかったです。タマネギのリングは本当に軽く、バッターはタマネギのアクセサリーだけだった。それはちょっとした味を加え、とても食べやすいものでした。ピザは驚くほど美味しかったです。もちろん、私の妻は野菜を大好きにして、私に何かを食べさせました。彼らは大丈夫でした。

Alas all good things must come to an end though. We had our fill and needed to do some walking before eating anything else. How fortunate it was that Iseya, the famous yaktori place we were going to was on the other side of town!

On the way to Iseya we found the Uniqlo, a 7 freaking story Uniqlo! That's a lot of Uniqlo.

As we got closer we could smell the yakitori in the air and our appetites returned, kinda.

The place was full, but since there were only 2 of us we were seated quickly. First order, beer! Then we each ordered 2 yakitori. I played it safe with negi and chicken meat balls, brains, gonads and other useless parts, while my wife ordered livers and some other weird parts Americans would never eat unless they were in hot dogs.

場所はいっぱいでしたが、2人しかいなかったので、すぐに座っていました。一番最初に、ビール！それから2個の焼鳥を注文しました。私はネギと鶏肉のボール、脳、生殖腺、その他の無駄な部分で安全に遊んだ。私の妻は肝臓や肝臓の犬には、ホットドッグにいなければ決して食べない奇妙な部分を注文した。

I must say for all the hype I was expecting more. Iseya is a vary famous yakitori place with a long history, but I felt the yakitori was lacking. It has long been a spot for people to come to after work or after a day at the park that it faces for many decades. The yakitori are really cheap, many under $1 and they have notoriously large shumai. If you are just looking for some cheap yakitori and beer this is place, but after all the delicious food we ate at the beginning of the night I think I would stick to eating on the other side of the tracks.
