I'm just doing what I can. I, too, think that having a functional app with quality Japanese instructions, etc will be very helpful in launching Steemit in Japan. Hopefully somebody better qualified than me will volunteer and help with this.

a more daunting task would be how to cultivate a substantial Japanese-using sub-community ... but an eSteem with jp is definitely an important first step!
I think that any step towards a user friendly experience will be a big help in creating a Japanese user base. Being able to interact with an interface written in one's own language is contributes a lot to user satisfaction. If someone can translate the phrases used in the eSteem app to Japanese, those phrases could easily be transferred to the Steemit website itself. With a good explanation of what Steemit is and how it works, I think users in Japan will be more likely to try it.
