This cigarette case from 1908 was made by Faberge, and is made of enamel, two-tone gold and is encrusted with diamonds.
It's one of the earliest examples of Art Nouveau.
It was a gift to King Edward VII from his mistress Mrs Alice Keppel. When the king died, his wife Queen Alexandra returned the case to Mrs Keppel.
In 1936 (long after Queen Alexandra was dead), Mrs Keppel gave the case to Queen Mary, who was married to George V (Edward VII's son), and it has remained in the royal family ever since.
