An Idea for Pricing Goods

in #jewelry7 years ago (edited)

I have been making a lot of jewelry over the past several months. It has been nearly a year, in fact, and I needed to find a good way to mark the different things I have made for a price scale so I can display and sell them eventually at a craft fair or the like. I think I have hit upon a good solution.

Step 1 was buying some construction paper at the local Dollar Tree. Step 2 was then cutting sheets of paper into approximately 1" x 1-1/2" rectangles (25mm x 40mm or so). Then I chose a way to sort the colors by value, inserted a slip into each ziplock bag that contains an item, and created a price chart.

The beauty if this system is that since I have already chosen a ballpark value scale betweent he pieces I made, I can always adjust the prices attached to each color. Can I sell it on the side without any paperwork or government permission? These prices feel about right to me. Do I need to pay some protection money and keep a bunch of paperwork? Well, the scale just moved up a notch. Am I selling to snobby tourists? Well, it just moved another step. Mwahahahahahahaha! All I need is a Sharpie and a spare set of little rectangles. Oh, and everything including the price chart fits in a pair of Sterilite 6 qt. storage boxes. If I want an alternate chart, the inside of Lid #2 can be used for that.

What do my fellow Steemit makers and sellers think of this scheme? Are there any refinements I need to consider, or problems I have overlooked? Comment below!

I think you're onto a pretty good system there! Especially the part that you only have to change ONE price tag if you decide to adjust your prices.

Having done a LOT of fair/festival trade with my painted rocks over the years, I love the idea of having everything standardized and "in a box." Folding tables; everything laid out in your bins... and you're in business. Pop-up tent optional.

I have ziplock sandwich bags with similar items, and each item in its own smaller baggie with its tag. I can grab a plastic folding table and folding chair and I am ready to roll! I have thought about getting a pop-up canopy, but I am aiming at actually selling stuff when there is an indoor Christmas season craft sale at a neighboring community center.

These look quite nice! Is your next step expanding your operation and selling these online?

I am pondering it, but I would prefer to start local.

I think you are going to rock with this scheme.

I think it looks great! There is no confusion at all or having to stop talking to one person to answer a price question to those who can’t wait.
Maybe add a card that says prices are color coded.
I love the fact you can chance the chart price and not every single item.
