Hello and Welcome to Steemit
Eye candy, every post, or so I am told, should have a picture, or a graphic. I try to only use my own pictures so here is one I will share:
This was taken at Captain Cook park in Alaska on 7-17-18. Just a pine cone used as a prop sort of. I put it in different locations on different surfaces so I could practice with my camera. Here it is sitting on a Sitka Rose Bush.
I have done a lot of how to and help type post in the past six months, but I also know it is a royal pain in the arse to try to scroll back on some days, or to even remember where you found it. So I will try to go through some of those helper type links.
This is an absolute must for people to read whether new or old to steemit, it is a reminder that needs to be made every now and then. Got Hacked? Here's How To Get Your Account And Reputation Score Back!. The post was created by@simplymike after she had an incident. The information is still very relevant and one week ago was used by one of the photographers to help return their account to normal. So a very strong go read and bookmark link you do not want to lose.
It's your vote, here is one method, but it is a long read - - - One way to Maximize your Votes Power - - -. This was a post I did to try and explain a couple of things about voting, and a few ways to vote. The most important thing to carry away from that post is, it is your vote and you get to decide how to use it.
To Justify or not, pulling left and right and all in the pink., Just a post about a couple of cool things I found on steemit to help in post formatting. I know how to use the tools sometimes, but it takes a real eye to do a really nicely formatted post. It allows for the use of a red font, but does not work well in a numbered list.
A three in one here actually. !IFC is a competition I have been participating in since January. "IFC S1 R40 entry" @dustsweeper and @steemchiller. The challenge in round 40 was to "Help steem". So those were the two I chose. As a new user Steemworld.org is one of the most useful tools, and for growing your account @dustsweeper can not be beat. So even though it was a game entry, there is a lot of good reading and useful information.
So how long does it take to get to minnow status and not really be a new user redfish anymore. For me it took - - 253 days to get to Minnow Status. (April 11, 2018) - - -I did a milestone post about that day, and at the bottom of that post you will find links to several friendly and useful sites.
Last is my "Master Banner Post". I use the banner url as a link back to a static steemit page that I use to hold various pieces of information that I lose easy, or forget. It is also where I collect all my Authors for when I want to read something. It is due an update soon, and I will get around to it soon. (soon on steemit means, I get to it when I get to it ;-}). In the settings tab of all users we are given the option to provide a website, it is located between your location and joined on date. Not everyone uses the website option, but a few of us do, and I have not seen it called anything other than the banner website, or master banner post. (I picked that term and idea up from @suesa, back quite awhile ago,).
Howdy! Thanks for the informative post. I followed the link about maximizing your vote through dustsweeper. You and I have spoken about this before, and I think I'm going to jump in and do it this time. Thanks largely to your great explanations, I'm starting to understand it enough to feel confident using it. Dustsweeper here I come!
Also, I was quite excited about point number 3 regarding formatting in markdown. I've looked online for how to change font colors and formatting, but haven't found anything beyond the super-basic. Alas, the link you posted didn't work for me. Page Not Found. Any chance you could drop a new link in the comments for me so I can try it again?
Thank you I will see what I typed wrong.
Okay I have it fixed now, sorry about that I usually check all my links after posting, guess I forgot on this post. Should work now.
Awesome, thanks! You'll know if it worked if my next post has centered headings. 😁😀😁
Great idea about creating a 'master banner post', @bashadow. I might have go steal that one ;0)
Steal away, I stole it from @suesa. Sometimes we need an easy place to find our own things.
True. Why didn't I think of that before, lol
Thanks for all the tips.
You are welcome, some of them get used more than others but all came in handy to me at one time or another.
Hola @bashadow,
This is one of the most relevant posts I've seen.
I'm not very invested in growing my steemit presence but I dislike wasting my time, floundering, attracting bots, etc.
I think your post may help me get organized (a bit).
I have two primary goals in this reply, beyond simple praise or thanks for your post.
First I'm going to try to figure out how to create my own master banner post, a static steemit page where I can put things I want to find again.
Second, to try to get a simple explanation of "how to do well by doing good" using your post as a micro case study.
To that end, please take it as a given that I see value in your post and rewarded it with a vote. The simplest and most obvious way of 'paying for value received' within Steemit.
My next step is "What more could I do?" with the coincidental question of "Of all the things I could do, what benefits both you and me both?" or "What is my optimal mutually beneficial next step?"
Paraphrasing Robert Heinlein, "I prefer enlightened self interest over altruism as a motivator all day and any day. (doubting in the existence of true altruism in most cases).
You are not asking for recognition or reward, but I'm offering and would like to learn how to offer recognition and reward based on my limited Steemit means.
Regards,
Rick
That is actually pretty simple to do. Make a post. Copy the address and place it in your settings tab.
Then you will see your banner change. You can use any website you want in the settings.
Attracting bots is unavoidable, they will find you, they will try to assimilate you. They are litke the Borg, they are relentless in their pursuit. From your post to your comments even to polluting your wallet. They are just there.
If you are not already a member of 5 discord groups find one that sort of aligns with your goals. A community to help support. Right now I am interested in growing my account and helping others do the same thing. Growing ones own account is not hard to do when it is only all about getting as much money as you can on a daily basis and taking it out and converting it to fiat/spendable money. Tons of bots for people to do that. Though the bots make more than the people using them, or they would not be in business.
I found a person that I thought had some good Ideas, @jan23com. Like me he wanted to grow his account and to help people and to translate that eventually into the real world. He created @thehive. Right now we are a small group but are growing. We have one bot that has a few voters that trail it so I do use it, even though it is only a 1.5 cent upvote it is growing. Every day 3 post are selected in order, not randomized, everyone gets a post to be Hive Bombed", People do not need to go and vote on the selected post, however by not contributing to the growth of others then when it comes time for your post to be selected it may not be. One hundred percent upvotes are not required. It is a slow steady growth program. Not a get rich quick, lets take advantage of this group type scheme, they get flushed out, and there have been some removed. We are still small enough that it is not yet to much of a burden on Jan23Com.
If you have not heard of Asher and his Leagues of curation and engagement, you might want to take a look at that. he will be posting his normal sunday weekly post. @abh12345 - Also he regularly comes up with List of Interest for people to take advantage of. I use the League to see how well I am doing with my goals. One of which is to help people. Yes most of the time that just means a vote and a comment, but for some post I might be the only one voting or leaving a comment. I see a lot of post with none or only one or two comments, yes some of them have a lot of votes, but people want more than just a quick wave in passing. So I like to Vote and Comment.
@paulag, (the other half of @steemcommunity witness, Asher is the other half), had the Redfish Hall of Fame , You should take a look at that link and then drop down in the comments and see vist @simplymike.
Just a few of the people trying to help in there own way for people to grow and be engaged in the steem community. Sorry that got so long, but sometimes short just does not work well, unless it is strawberry short cake, then short is good.
What does it mean to have minnow status?
It doesn't really mean very much at all. The technical part is that you have 1,000,000 vest that equals just about 500SP, The benefit is you get an easy vote slider to use. Steemit is organized by fish levels.
Redfish/plankton less than 1,000,000 vest
Minnow 1,000,000 vest to 9,999,999 vest about 500SP to 5000SP
Dolphins ten times minnow, each level 10 times above the previous.
I think those are the fish levels,
