Meet A Woman Who Built Her Own House for $20K

I met @steemsilo at my first Bitcoin/Steem School KC class, and she has been one of the most active students so far.

At last week’s class, I had a chance to get to know her better, and I found out that she built her own house in Missouri for $20,000. JAW DROPS. I don't know about you, but I hardly know anyone (outside of ecovillage people) who has built their house with their own hands.

She is one of the most amazing, unique and self-sufficient people I’ve ever met in Kansas City. She has mad skillz and can build anything from a house to a car engine. She used to work as a car mechanic at a Toyota dealership a few years ago. Now she does many different things to earn money: fixing people’s cars, home repairs and also she gives Thai massages. Barter is also a big part of her economic life.

She wired the electrical system in her house as well and it’s safe to say that I became her student over the course of my 6 hour visit to her home, which she built out of grain bins.

Steemsilo is a very new Steemian and part of our agreement was that I introduce her to the Steemit community in order to help her gain more exposure. I agreed to give her all the SBD this generates and she was fine with me keeping the SP.

Join me as I explore @steemsilo’s fascinating hand-constructed home. She’s the freest woman I think I’ve ever met. I have a lot to learn from her.

A bit of background: Steemsilo used to work at Sprint before she built her house and removed herself from the corporate Matrix. She told me that working at a corporation didn’t really fit her, so over a period of time, she began to extricate herself, by downsizing her expenses and building her own house. She has no mortgage and very few bills. Her house has no running water or plumbing, but she’s blessed with an underground aquifer, and she gets her water from a well. She shares electricity with her parent’s house, which is just beyond a hill. Her home is heated by a wood-burning stove and insulated with spray foam.

Her parents own the land on which her house is built.

Here @steemsilo describes how it cost $20K to build her house:

And a little about how she insulated her grain bin home:

Check out her bedroom and a cool lifting mechanism that creates airflow:

And she has a cool library and extra bed on the main floor:

And I bet you were wondering what the outdoor toilet looks like. Here it is, and yes I did use it (TMI):

and a obligatory toilet video too:

Well, this is turning out to be like a @sweetsssj blogpost, which I am sure will be impossible to load...and yeah, I do have more photos:

So, if you're into homesteading or just curious what's it's like to be free, using the barter system, and not having to go to a soul-crushing 9-5 job, follow @steemsilo. She is probably the freest woman in the entire state of Missouri!

Cheers,
Stellabelle

FYI: Steem School will be on Sat, Nov. 4 at 2 pm at the Opera House Cafe in the River Market. Let me know if you're able to make it. Meet cool people who are seeking their own personal freedom....that's the over-arching theme of my classes.

Awesome post @stellabelle! I will definitely be following @steemsilo on the regular. I am VERY passionate about bartering and trading. It is nice to see such lovely ladies so close to home (I live out in the boonies about 2 hours west of Kansas City).

you should come to our Steem School in kc sometime! We meet every Saturday at 2 pm.......let me know if you want to receive email reminders. How did you find Steemit?

@stellabelle I found Steemit by following James Corbett of Corbett Report. He suggested that folks leave FB (he isn't on that platform) and try Steemit.

Thanks for the invite. I am pretty busy until the new year. I would love to be on the email list: [email protected]

ok i will add you. Thanks!

@stellabelle How do I know I am receiving email reminders? Thank you! (I just want to know if I am on the email list.

Wow i'm dazed, this goes in line with my thought after watching spiderman 2017 and Stark made comment

You are nothing if you can't live without sophistication

She made something out of nothing or little, i'd like to proclaim this kind of message. I wish you can bring more people's life to inspire steemians @stellabelle, i love the way you wrote about her, i wish you write more on other people.
Allow me to bring @steemsilo in to my next post

there's so much possibility if you don't live in the eyes of others :)

Selfvoting is prohibited, but that should be the reason to spread the world to protect our precious environment. Check out profile of our conservation association @kedjom-keku and the founder/coordinator @martin.mikes to get more information about our conservation program. My current SP is 14270.25. Help me to plant more trees with your delegated SP.

i like sprite of her to be doing this one.

WAW. This is inspiring @stellabelle. Great job @steemsilo. You are really a free person, so cool!

it's so empowering to see Americans free without debt, mortgages or soul-crushing jobs! She's an inspiration for sure.

This is so cool. Always wondered what it would be like to have round rooms. Now I know. Great job sharing her story. This is great inspiration to anyone that wants to be freed from the debt cycle in society today.

oh wow, she's so amazing and do all these everything by herself. I really wanted to do some flooring to my apartment in my hometown and my family thought I was crazy.. love the bed, super cozy!

Just try it! You may learn how not to do it, but you will eventually get it right. I try never to be afraid of failing. Failing at things gave me a lot of practice towards getting it right.

Muy, muy bueno!!! upvote, reeteem

She really is hardworking. Will share this to get more people view what an amazing woman she is.

Hi there @stellabelle well its quite profounding, and unbelievable. Which makes me wonder how much the US dollars is really worth.

But then again, the house is a large one which means the woman is vert prudent with spending.
Its really amazing though.

Thank you for sharing

Wow..what an inspiration! This is someone who has dug deep down and found what it takes to make her dreams come true. Hell yeah!

this is sooo what i want to do. thanks! reposting in my pal- discord sustainability channel :)

cool, thanks! I hope lots of people will follow steemsilo, as she is both a genius and a humble person too...

WOW! Very inspiring!
(and ps. good luck with your steem school :-)

Hello @stellabelle

Wow...Indeed what a man can do, a woman can do it better. Your revelation with respect to @steemsilo captures this sentence in all its ramifications.

Initially I thought you were referring to her funding her house building process. On reading deep, lol and behold, I discovered I was wrong: the woman in question actually practically built her house by herself!

Again, to learn that she can fix cars and do electrical wiring too is a skill that can hardly be found among her gender. This woman @steemsilo must be a genius of no small standing.

I advise she does her blogging in those areas she has a comparative advantage.

Following her and will always check on her.

@eurogee

This is a true inspiration to this platform , personally I'd like to meet her !! Dreams can come true if we actually little at the little things in life

its an inspiration to me...

This is an amazing post. Very inspiring. Great images and very informative.

Nothing satisfies more than having the skills to meet your own needs

I watched the video of the opening in the ceiling, and i was intrigued by such ingenuity. @steemsilo is definitely a great creator and i salute her intelligent in having such a well-planned home.

Hi @stellabelle indeed what an amazing post it is perhaps i am impressed with @steemsilo because she has really taken herself down to earth by constructing her own house by using grain bins,i must say that i have never heard of a woman with so much skills to a point of building her own house and even doing the electrical wiring by herself indeed she has really reduced the bills on her side since she is sharing electricity with her parents and as for the water she is getting it from a well perhaps what a simple life with no much stress to worry about bills like electricity, water and house rent ,lastly i do think the rest of us on steemit we do have a big lesson to learn from her, thank you @stellabelle for this great post since i have as well learnt alot from it and i do think the lessons i have learnt from this post will surely help me in life.

Wow... super great house! I like all these colors around :-)
I will absolutly follow @steemsilo ;-)

BTW... I was checking on Google Maps... "where is Kansas City?!?!?"... a little bit far for me... I wanted to attend the SteemSchool :-)

Big hug from Giubiasco in Switzerland ;-)
