Yes it definitely is a good use; and also I'm hoping it will keep me motivated to carry on. I can see myself going the same way as you if I don't practice with some human beings, so this is a perfect use for that.
How where you learning it; did you take proper classes or an app?

I was learning Mandarin from a CD tutorial in the late 90's. I've been using Memrise to learn a bit of French and it's working great!
