RE: Being important is not so important but knowing what is important is very important

in #life7 years ago (edited)

I hope this message finds you well. What you experienced with your niece, I think many of the older people are experiencing the same.

I talked with a young asian woman, here, as I saw comments she exchanged with others in their early twenties. I then told her that she does not sound like a millenial, as she has studied, got her degree at university and made sacrifices to achieve her dreams. I told her she sounds more like a 'generation x'.

She insisted she is a millenial and above everything else in life, what is important to her is instant gratification. I gave up and 'deleted' her name from my memory.

However, I did come across another young woman, who responds politely to everyone, does not moan and is a talented artist. She has a problem and I cannot see what is causing it.

She has made lots of posts with some very good art and some just not quite as good. She has upvotes, very few, but even where a number of them should be giving her some money, she ends up with zero or, at best a few cents.

Her Rep has gone down to 10.

First thing I did is go back to her first post and look through all of them. I cannot see anything there.

I then checked her comments. She is determined to discover artists, established, but also new ones that she can help. So, no scamming that I can see.

The whole thing does not make sense to me and I do not know how to find what the problem is (I cannot find any flags).

If you can take a look and maybe make a suggestion, even if it is who else can help?, I will appreciate it.

Hmm I had a look at her account (@aysenurluk) and you are right, something is not right there. As far as I know, when you sign up you automatically begin with 25 reputation. To go down to 10 or less someone has to flag you and how much you go down by depends on their reputation score. As far as I can see there are no flags so indeed it is a mystery. However, I did hear the Steemit developers are experiencing some "glitches" at the moment. For example, if you go to your wallet section your cover photo turns to black and your rep score reverts to 25. This is happening to everyone and the devs are trying to fix it. Therefore I assume @aysenurluk might be part of this problem. If so, once it is corrected everything will return to normal. Apparently, Steemit has suddenly become the fastest growing website in the USA with thousands a day signing up. This could be what is causing problems with the system trying to cope. What people do not understand about Steemit is that it is built on a block-chain not on a central server, this complicates things somewhat as the technology is so new we are all learning as we go along - If Steemit was built on a central server - like Facebook for example - then there would not be a problem- but then what would be the point of that- It is the block-chain that is the very reason why people want to join. Block-chains means you can have an economy built into it and it means ALL data placed on it can not be altered, manipulated or censored.
As long as @aysenurluk can post, is earning steem then her account must be functioning OK. I would ait a bit longer to see how it goes, in the mean time I will do some asking around with people I know.
Good to hear from you Arthur

Thanks for taking the time (btw do you think I was right about her having some talent and flair?) Being Greek Cypriot, I was a bit hesitant about contacting her, not because of what she may say, but because of the drastic changes happening in Turkey. If they are as drastic as we read, she is going to have her wings clipped, with Steemit being the only place she'll be able to fly freely.

I apologise Arthur but I must be truthful and tell that I an not informed on the situation in Turkey. I tend not to follow world news so much these days. I find such things a s stressful because I know I cant do anything about them. I can help an old poor man with giving a free meal but I cant stop North Korea using Nuclear weapons.
As regards to the lady having talent I had a more closer look seeing as though you ask fro my opinion.
I would say the lady was enthusiastic in her work and believes and views herself as an artist/creative person. We are living in an age where woman are coming to the front more than ever.It is a kind of a female revolution going on and I guess it was on time. Therefore it has become very fashionable for woman to become artists at the moment. The same thing has happened in my own county of Norway. Woman artists suddenly dominate the art galleries and male artists are finding it hard to get a foot in the door. As I said, women artists are fashionable at the moment because it is politically correct. However, this does not mean that their art is good. Some of it is, but much of it is not. This is no different than with male art. Technically speaking - this artist it is not of high quality but it could be if she worked at it. Often when the technical side is weak it is disguised as being "expressive". However, to the trained eye, such as mine, I can see quality from a mile away. She does have talent though, but it needs developing. Im sure her work with sell but selling has nothing to do with good art. Today, artists, have fallen for the idea that fame means their art is good. So many focus of trying to get famous. But when half your energy is working of getting recognised, it means only half your energy is going into your work. To be a great artist, you need to use ALL your energy in your work. I would say the lady has a creative spirit and want to be recognised. She has some talent, but she will not change the art world.
Sorry if your do not agree with my opinion but art is a sacred thing to me and as such I never ever lie about what I believe.
