Anniversary Adventure San Francisco - Part 1

February 14 2018 This is the day @yenmoon and I begin our vacation/2nd year wedding anniversary! @yenmoon worked the late shift and so I went to her work to begin our adventure this morning.

She worked all night and now without any sleep she will journey with me to the Greyhound Bus station which is in another city and is about 2 hours away using the bus we will be riding to get there.

She is very tired but excited that now begins our vacation of about 1 week. We will spend 6 days in San Francisco, California doing different things that @yenmoon has found online as fun things to do in SF.

The picture you see here above is us on the bus for a 2 hour ride to the Greyhound station in another city!

IMG_1098.JPG

Here we are standing outside of the bus station waiting for the bus that will take us to SF. I was very anxious on our way here because we only had 5 minutes between the time that our bus taking us to the station arrived and the Greyhound Bus to SF departs... If we miss our bus to SF we would lose a day and that would mess up our trip plans...

Hmmmm... We are here on time but where's the bus? It should be here... Did it already leave? Did it leave early?

(Above photo is @yenmoon speaking to a Greyhound representative in India)

I went inside the station to find out what's going on. Is it just late? Did it leave early or...? Or what...?

The station attendant says that it's just late. He says it happens a few times a month so it's not super unusual.

The attendant also says that they're not allowed to contact Greyhound to find out anything. The attendant and I both think that such a rule is ridiculous.

The above picture is @yenmoon speaking to a Greyhound representative to discover what is happening. Why is the bus so late? At this time it is already 2 hours late... It was supposed to depart at 9:30AM but it had still not arrived at 11:30AM.

I called the company first and the representative that I was speaking with was in India and did not have very good English skills. I was not actually able to understand what he was attempting to tell me so in frustration I handed the phone to @yenmoon in case she was better able to decipher what he was saying...

DSC01366.JPG
(Above photo of clock inside Greyhound station)

Okay now it's almost noon and still no bus... In speaking with the representative earlier @yenmoon had an interesting time. At first the representative was saying that the bus had already left our station, but @yenmoon told him that it could NOT have already left our station because it had not yet arrived! How can it leave if it has not yet arrived? (He was obviously just looking at a schedule and had no real-time information)

He then tried to issue us a refund but we didn't want a refund, we just want to know when the bus will arrive. He kept saying the bus had already left and @yenmoon kept attempting to explain that, that was not possible because it had not yet arrived...

DSC01367.JPG

And around and around they went until at last in possible frustration he said, "No bus for you!" At that point @yenmoon asked to speak with his supervisor and was transferred to the Philippines to speak with a representative there.

@yenmoon is from the Philippines so when the representative she was speaking with also did not have good English skills and was not easy to understand @yenmoon spoke to her in Tagalog so that they could communicate clearly... but the Greyhound representative said that she was not allowed to speak in Tagalog and was only allowed to use English...

(A change of plans)

The station attendant was finally able to get some information. Apparently there was no driver available and that is why no bus arrived. The next bus to SF would not be until 10:30PM tonight.

DSC01369.JPG

And so here we are walking down the street in a town that we should have already left many hours ago...

Walking down the street in search of a hotel because the next bus is many hours away and @yenmoon is VERY tired!

The first hotel we try wants to put a hold of over $200 on our card even though we will only be staying until around 9:30PM that night and the room cost is only $90, AND we will pay cash when we leave. If we let him do that then $200 will be unavailable for about 72 hours until the system clears the hold.

We don't like that idea and also he just doesn't seem very friendly so we move on and keep looking for a place to stay until the bus arrives. @yenmoon uses her phone to locate a bed and breakfast type of lodging. I am thinking that doesn't sound so good because Bed & Breakfast places are more expensive and I expect it to be way out of our price range. Afterall this isn't a scheduled part of our adventure and will be an added expense...

(Discovering "The Lady Anne Inn")

But... It turns out that although "The Lady Anne Inn" is more expensive, it is also a very wonderful place! If we wanted to see the good side of our bus not arriving then "The Lady Anne Inn" helps us find the the good side very easily.

(The Sarah Angela room)

The owners are Sharon and Sam and they are so nice! At the time of this writing a room at "The Lady Anne Inn" is $145 a night. The room in which we stayed is called, "The Sarah Angela room".

I took pictures of some of the other rooms too because everything is so pretty! I hope you like them! :-)

(The Jennifer Katherine room)

The Jennifer Katherine room was the room next to ours and @yenmoon liked the look of it so much that we rented it on our return journey. (But more about that in a later post)

Just some random shots around the house. Here's a view of the stairway to the first floor. (Our room was on the second floor)

(The Sun room)

This is one of my favorite rooms and I would like to stay in it sometime. I like a room that is spacious! That is another feature I love about "The Lady Anne Inn".

High ceilings. I appreciate the feeling of spaciousness...

"The Lady Anne Inn" really has such a nice comfortable and homey feel to it... What a GREAT find!

@yenmoon is already laying down resting in our room because she is exhausted, having been awake now for over 24 hours, but I am walking around the house with my camera taking pictures because I just think everything looks SO nice! :-)

And now back to my exhausted @yenmoon!
Even though she's so tired @yenmoon says she's hungry and ready to find a restaurant! And so off we go in search of a restaurant!

DSC01393.JPG

In the photo above @yenmoon is adjusting a device she bought for our trip.

It's called a selfie stick and it's used to hold the camera further away from you for taking "selfies!"

Selfie Time! :-)

About 2 blocks from "The Lady Anne Inn" we find this nice place to eat. The Pho Hoang Vietnamese Restaurant.

(Spicy Chicken Curry)

I had Spicy Chicken Curry and it was yummy! :-)

DSC01403.JPG

DSC01404.JPG

@yenmoon had a Chicken Rice-Noodle soup which she also liked very much.

DSC01405.JPG

Also we each had an avocado smoothie. The entire meal was very enjoyable and the wait-staff was friendly. We recommend this restaurant if you visit the city of Arcata, California.

@yenmoon wasn't able to finish her soup because it was a big bowl so I helped her with it. And I liked it too! :-)

Heading back to "The Lady Anne Inn"

DSC01407.JPG

Such a pretty place!

Sam (The owner) tells us on our return trip/stay that "The Lady Anne Inn" was built in 1888 by a banker.

DSC01408.JPG

1:52PM and we're back and ready for a nap before continuing our journey tonight. But first I show @yenmoon some of the rooms I discovered earlier!
