Great debate

in #life9 months ago

Hi friends

There has been a raging debate at my house.

Is a zucchini a fruit or vegetable?

I am on the vegetable side - it is green and seems like a vegetable.

My kids are on the fruit side - saying it has seeds.

My wife is not taking sides - the true politician.

My kids came up with an exhibit to prove their point:

What do you think - a fruit or a vegetable?

Thanks for coming by,
Brian

I will say qualitatively fruit, though I really think it's an alien life form.

It is a vegetable for us :)

It has always been a fruit to me though

For me, it’s a vegetable. It goes well in salads hehehe

I guess you are both right:

I think this is a vegetable

hahaha, I gotta say it's hard to argue with exhibit A 😂

Tomatoes are the same and every time we get pizza and my son asks for pineapple and I say, "you just don't put fruit on pizza", I am reminded by him that tomatoes are indeed fruit as well :(

Good point indeed!

It’s a fruit!

It’s a vegetable. Cucumbers have seeds as well and are a vegetable. As well as peppers, eggplant, squash, which are all vegetables.

I would like to eat fruit's.

it's vegetable in here.but i think hard it's like a long ball means a fruit.the vegetable looks like a small tree.🍭(ᵔᵕᵔ˶)

I think it could be both because it appears as a vegetable and then it could also be a seed of a fruit

I made a post about this topic one time. Scientifically, it is classified as a fruit, but it is considered a vegetable for tax purposes. Technically, a vegetable would be a plant part that we eat aside from the seed bearing parts such as broccoli (we eat the flowers and stems) or sweet potatoes (we eat the root).

Back in the 1800s, a bill was passed that made fruit imports exempt from tariffs. So, when a company tried to import a giant load of tomatoes (scientifically considered a fruit, so should be tax exempt) and were charged an import tariff, they sued and took the case to the US Supreme Court. The court ruled that tomatoes should NOT be considered fruit for tax purposes. Because, you know... money.

Their reasoning was that, even though the tomato is by definition a fruit, it has a savory flavor, so they justified calling it a vegetable, and that classification has been applied to other fruits that we call vegetables such as cucumbers and peppers.
