Separated by DEATH together by LOVE (poem dedicated to my father) (Featuring @cheergirly-za as Author)

Have you ever felt the excruciating pain of losing a loved one?

When I was a little girl of 7 years old I lost my hero, my best friend, my first love but worst of all I lost my Daddy.
In May 2002 my Father was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. He started bleeding while urinating but thought it might just be from being diabetic and didn’t think much of it.

My Mom demanded he goes for a check-up just to make sure everything was fine and a year later he was diagnosed with bladder cancer.

He was in and out of the hospital getting all kinds of different treatment and for a while he was fine. He had the energy to play with us, go on holidays, teach us how to swim and ride bikes. He even had the energy to make us a Sunday lunch fit for a king, he would make a roast with; veggies, fried potato, rice and gravy. While my mom made the desert.

I think he would have been the world’s greatest chef, he just had this amazing ability to taste food and say exactly which ingredient was missing. The one thing I really miss about my Dad is his food and dry humour he always had. I remember after our Sunday lunch we would all sit and talk around the table, but we laughed more than what we talked due to my Dad’s humour. He never laughed at his own sayings, but he took something serious and turned it around so that you could see the humour of it all. He never gossiped, or talked bad about people. My Dad was a Saint.

Wouldn’t be caught dead

They say only time will heal
But I’ll never forget the way you made me feel
You made me laugh, you made me cry
Then you left without saying goodbye

Daddy, Daddy how can I forget
You left me here with so much regret
When you said you had to leave
It made me feel like I couldn’t breathe

It’s true what they say
It does get better in a way
But all the memories stay
And you remember why you feel this way

Wouldn’t be caught dead
That’s what you said
Wouldn’t be caught dead
But then I found you quiet in bed

Thanks so much for sharing this. I am sure it must have been hard to focus on such intense feelings. Your father would be proud of this poem.

Thank you so much extie-dasilva. Writing the poem brought back a lot of memories.

I am so proud of this young lady as she is only 14 years old. She wrote this poem for school but I told her to publish this.

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful memory.
