I blame pop culture stereotypes about positivity and positive reinforcement. To be clear, I'm not saying those things are bad; I'm just saying they don't work all the time. I do still appreciate them from other people, depending on context.
However, when we're talking about the self-talk I have to give myself to get motivated, @pangoli's message resonated better for me.
I often think of this song lyric from All Get Out: "In the end, you're free to be the sum of all your failures"
That usually gets me motivated to do better and work harder.
