Your phone can be your best friend, or your worst nightmare. Which is it for you?
~Zane Bradshaw~
I just did a Google search, and I could not find one decent example of the quote I was looking for. So, I just made my own. That is in the exact context that I would like to explain this.
So, notice I mentioned in the title 'most people'. This is because for most people, their phone is a HUGE liability. So for those people, it's their worst nightmare.
So, why do I say your phone is probably a liability? Well, let me ask you a questionnaire. Answer these in your head:
- Do you have the Facebook app installed?
- Do you have the Instagram app installed?
- How many people do you message on Whatsapp per day?
- How many games do you have installed?
- Do you have the YouTube app installed?
- Do you have SnapChat installed?
Answer those questions. See, the reason I say 'most' people, is because I do not have a single one of those applications installed on my phone. Not even YouTube.
Why not even YouTube? Because I know the app is very responsive and addictive. The main video feed has way too much clickbait. If I need motivation, I simply open my phone's browser, and I search a quick video, and then I close it.
If you have those applications installed, I am 90% certain that you are not trying your best in life. Now, notice I kept that extra 10% on unsurety? That's because these applications can also be used in a person's favor. They can all be used as business tools too. I know many people who make a lot of money through many of these apps.
See, for me the only use I have for my phone is:
- Occasionally logging into my bank account.
- Replying to comments on Steemit.
- Messaging somebody for something urgent.
- Listening to motivating music.
- Using the mobile web browser instead of my MacBook.
That's it. I basically abandoned my Instagram account like 2 months ago. Same with my Facebook account. Why? They are life suckers! Haven't you ever noticed how Instagram was designed? It's an addictive atmosphere and environment. It's designed with the same concept as the business plan presented in 'The Wolf of Wallstreet'. That plan is to never allow your customer to cash-out or leave your service.
My conclusion to all this was simple.. DELETE! I had over 35K followers on Instagram (Maybe still do). I got thousands of likes per post I used to make. None of that matters. It's about being real, and being bigger than all that stereotype sh*t.
This was Part 1 of this series. Stay tuned for Part 2 in the next post. I have 27K SP, so I like to reward great comments!
More than how much my posts can make, I care far more about getting my content in front of newer faces. So if you would like to show your appreciation, you can share this with others!
I want this blog to be a happy, motivated place where you guys are free to engage and say whatever is on your mind. A place where if you have something on your mind, no matter how dramatic it may be, you can feel free to speak. Resteems are appreciated!
I reward good resteems and comments! I would love to know what's on your mind. Be bold and talk to me in my comments section! I would to know your opinion and what it is you'd like to achieve. I am trying my best to make 2 high quality blog posts per day. So stay tuned!

I use FB like twice a year to talk to somebody I don't have a phone number of. Whatsapp is all I use sparingly. But nothing else of those life suckers.
I've been thinking about deleting my fb account for several reasons. The time waste part is one and the other is 90% of my feed is garbage on fb.
I've been thinking for awhile now and Maybe it's time to start doing (deleting useless accounts and apps on my phone).
Bro, for me, I just factory reset my phone. Then I deleted all the default apps. My phone's home screen has one app: My default browser. That's it. Sounds crazy, but it really relieves your mind being more simple.
I recommend you try it for yourself.
Wow that is one fancy reply you got there! Thanks :)
Factory reset is a pretty hardcore way of going about it but whatever gets the job done and is the most useful in keeping you more focused / less distracted.
I'm at a different point in my journey of erasing myself from most social media. Maybe some day I'll catch up with you or at least simplify my digital life a good bit.
True on those social media that sucks our attention away. They are designed to be that way too. I had moved from FB and Instagram to Steemit. It is like 70% Steemit and 30% others. While in Steemit, it involves writing, commenting and replying which requires a significant amount of effort too but these effort is much worthwhile than doing that on other platform as we can earn and own our own behavior. For other social media, they monetize from our behavior.
Zane, my friend. I tried to delete my facebook account many times because I can see a lot of garbage and toxic posts on facebook. Plus it is eating so much of my time.
I tried really hard not to use it but it was hard. Using other applications to help and communicate with people who are asking for my help is very difficult for me. Thankfully, I discovered a function on Facebook where I can control the things that I am seeing on my newsfeed. Now I am unfollowing toxic people who love to post negative things online and I make sure to see first all the pages that interest me like self-development, financial tips, healthy food recipes, exercise, and workouts, etc. It's very helpful. But when I started my journey on steemit, I only use facebook to communicate with my groups.
I still have youtube apps as well for I use it to listen to worship songs, watch motivational videos and all. I am able to customize the things that I saw on my youtube homepage as well. So I'm good with it.
Maybe if we learn how to control ourselves, and our behavior using every app, maybe if we use those applications on the positive way, ways that can help us grow then maybe having those applications will not be a bad idea after all. Maybe we just need to learn how to use it in our own advantage and not allow those applications to control us. We must live our life with full awareness and not on an autopilot. Being fully aware of our life and on the things we are doing is the first big step owning our life back again. If we can retrain our mind to live with full awareness then we can start living a great life as human beings and not as robots.
I commented you on cutting the social ties and finding a more authentic connection with people here. I stopped using the book of faces and gram of the instant for the most part. Now I only use them to share my steem posts out to so if any of my friends want to know where I went they can find me.
I was looking for a new home for my digital life for a couple of years now and am so happy to find steem. As an artist I had stuff all over the web but no where felt like home.
I just started on steem and I am finally finding the open connections with others I looked for in many other places. I think the greatest value this platform offers is giving us our own keys to our digital presence.
Your blog post always look so beautiful I respect the effort you put into them. Thank you for ditching the other platforms so we can be blessed with your efforts.
I love that!! :D So funny hahaha.
I totally agree with what you are saying here. It's so true though. Besides, this platform is all anybody needs. Not even for the money, just in general, it's a far better made platform. I feel you can make such a stronger connection with a person here.
Thank you for your kind words! I really appreciate that. I am glad you are finding value out of what I am producing :)
Glad I made you smile. And yes the beauty of this platform is you can also develop ideas and apps for it. The community can make what they desire to see. And oh yeah you can own a part of the platform also.
Hear that Woosh swish bing boom that is the sucking sound as all the people leave the other platforms for steem. Hey remember MySpace.... it is just a matter of time till Blockchain tech disruption makes the advertising machines obsolete.
Keep up the quality work my new friend it is people like you that makes me feel good to invest in steem power.
Yeah man I can definitely agree with that! I'm glad what I am doing here makes you feel good and confident! Let's go!!
Thanks @enazwahsdarb for this amazing post. You may not know it, but you have helped me resolve a puzzle.
I stumbled on Steemit in the course of researching crypto currencies (that is how a lot of people discovered Steemit actually). After taking several courses on how Steemit works, I decided to register. In less than 12 hours, I was approved. I have been trying to familiarize myself with the platform. Seems like a lot of work.
As I was digging deeper and deeper into Steemit, I kept wondering whether there is the need to belong to all those other platforms. Steemit has everything all those other platforms offer; but more importantly, Steemit serves us better! I am glad I have found somebody who has already crossed the bridge I was contemplating to cross. Thanks @enazwahsdarb for being such inspiration.
I look forward to DTube uploading process being significantly improved and the Tube for You will be history for me.
Steemit rocks! It connects with modernity as crypto is the new reality. Those fighting it are merely wasting their useless time.
Very nicely said my man! I appreciate that comment. I think the 21 century world is just drenched in a bag of lies.
All those people on social media trying to be something or someone they are not.
Not HERE! Here, on Steemit, we are real. We are open, and we provide value. For that very reason, I see it as the best platform out there.
I'm glad I was able to inspire you! Now, let's do this!
My wife says all the time that she just got on facebook 30 minutes ago to check something someone wanted her to see and it's like why am I still on this. She uses facebook to help promote her business, but I've been helping here limit her time. You should probably add pinterest to that list as well.
It's crazy. It's honestly not surprising though.. Just think about it. Do you honestly think such a multi-billion dollar company like Facebook (Who owns Instagram!) would not invest a ton of time and money into learning the psychology of how to get people most addicted? It's understandable. Then again, most people won't do anything about it.
Just change for the better and beat all odds :)
Nice observations there.
Most times we spend all our day on those platforms without any gain. That's really pathetic, wasting our data and energy to watch any videos that come our way.
Reading through my facebook feeds everyday all i see is people taking pictures here and there. I'm beginning to get bored using the app, i hardly login unlike before.
This post is a wake up call to everyone, we should engage in things that benefit us and people around us.
More of this man, keep up the good work.
Nicely said my man! It's so true.
Beginning? :D I was over it after a week hahaha! You have quite some patience!
I'm glad you saw this post as a wake up call for many. Let's get it out there :)
I've just resteemed the post, so my followers can share from the knowledge too
Thank you so much! :) I appreciate that.
Lots of time sucking apps to deal with, buzzing you throughout the day over the smallest thing. I think it's a good move to blow all the notifications away, and then you'll only pick up the phone when you need something from it!
(....back to my new time sucker, Steemit curation!)
Yeah man definitely! I did a full factory reset yesterday on my phone. I only have my web browser on my home screen, and guess what? I feel so free! Nothing I need to think about that I haven't checked yet.
Hahaha yeah, at least this time sucker i worth it.
Freeeedom!
Yeah enjoying this game a lot more - expecting the number of players to go ballistic, which will be epic!
Totally agreed! I think Steemit still has a few issues to overcome before mass-adoption, but I believe they will overcome all those things, and really soar! Exciting times :)
Yeah for sure. Some of the tools the community have written help, but still some way to go. I'm just happy to be involved now cause the future looks bright!
Amen to that my man! Definitely. Let's do this :)
I rarely use FB; only to see what my daughters are posting about, really. Same for Instagram. I do like snapchat, but that takes no time at all out of the day.
My vice was checking email when in my previous position. Afraid to miss something important, I was constantly checking it, much to the irritation of friends ands family. I have since changed roles and this is not longer an issue.
I DO spend a lot pf time on Steemit, but I have not been using esteem so it's only when I'm on my laptop alone...
Focus on the face in front of you! Cheers!
I totally forgot to add email to the list! WOW.. That's a big one too. Thanks for the reminder. I can totally relate to that.
Spending time on Steemit is fine though! It's at least productive. But yes, I agree, and when I am done with my hustle, I definitely look forward to being in the real world!! :D
You say somethign there. I keep facebook for the birthday dates. Also whatsapp for networking. Youtube to watch tutorials. Else this are timewasters. I always try to get the most benefits out of an app, else it gets deleted.
I agree with your view point, throw the mobile phone awayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy especially young people who are addicted
Just take a hike up a huge, steep mountain, until you reach a nice view point. Then, take your phone out of your pocket, and throw if right off the edge!!!! :D
Amen to that. Especially the younger generation! AKA - My generation LOL.
Hahahah you are indeed a blessed artist....good job indeed.
FB account could be deleted anyway. People only show how great the weekend was and what they did eat. Only nice moments are shared and just showing the luxury things they do. But it is so static, not any functionality at all, and I even din't talk about the number of advertisement ,.. rubbish it is.
But throw the Phone away,... that a different topic, I do steem and follow a lot content on my Phone. Learning and reading while travelling. It also give the ability to post a taken pic in a few seconds.
So true man. I totally agree with that. There is a reason why Mark Zuckerberg is so damn rich. All those adverts LOL.
Yeah, of course I was just talking in the general sense about the phone. Don't actually throw it away. I was just addressing all those people who waste time on the unimportant things. Our devices can help us be SO productive too!
So many people are already like slaves of social media, husbands and wives, fathers and mothers who are neglecting their loved ones. And for what, some artificial reality... "And the people bowed and prayed for the neon god they made" Its from the song called Sound of Silence, which was written already more tha 40 years ago! On that time the words "neon god" surely ment something different, but for me it translates to our time scarely accurately as the Social Media, which we made...
WOW. Nicely said. How accurate! I love that song, but that's the first time actually realizing that line!
I think it's honestly crazy. Look, I will be a liar if I said I am completely against social media, because Steemit is a social media platform. At the moment, I am not only neglecting my family, but also everything else in my life, but that's just something called the hustle. I believe if there is a good reason for why you are sacrificing the things around you, then it's justifiable.
I do however, definitely agree that those other platforms are HUGE time wasters, and that if one is spending time on anything, but this platform, then they have an issue.
Exactly! I have to use all of them ( FB, IG, Twitter, Tumblr and with multiple accounts) because of my work. I can see and feel how addictive they are. Even that most of the stuff is just bullshit! If later I will change my job, I'll delete all those accounts, easily :)
Lol....@enazwahsdarb you content is always as a timed bomb.
Most people indeed cannot harness the potent earning power of their phones and so it becomes a liability to them.
I had to let to a friend few days ago because of her addictive glued attritude to mobile games which sapping the sauce of her productive time.
I love your post and following you back to back for the next time bomb you would release.
My man, thanks for that! I'm glad I am able to create timed bombs :P
That's definitely it! People just do not know how to monetize their mobile devices. For this very reason, I think people just get bored, not knowing what to do, and have no choice but to retaliate to using those life-drainers.
Check you later my man!
Ditching the apps off the phone was the best thing I have ever done, that beeping all day long from people sharing photo's they did not take, sharing posts that are so wonderfully fake.
Numbers don't matter that count will go up, people matter and communicating matters, so on this I agree switch off those time wasters and do something to benefit those who actually want to connect.
Amen to that, Joan!! Very nicely said. So very true.
The worst for me, since I am in blogging mode now, is if I were to go and make a comment on Facebook or Instagram, the response to my comment will probably be like one emoji. It's so sad. Where's the frikken rapport??! WHere's the relationship??! It honestly makes me laugh sometimes.
Thanks for your opinion. It was so real.
I am in Thailand and have a Thai phone for my bank. They required it to open an account. I only use it for the alarm clock sometimes and never carry it with me or answer it. I would say it is normally dead and lost here somewhere.
When I am out in Bangkok - especially on the subway - I am the odd man out for sure. Everyone else is on their phone. I always wonder what is going on in it. I can't really think of what I would like to look at besides the reality around me.
That's so cool that you're in Thailand :D Do you live there permanently or just a shorter time?
Those phones are genius!! That's all you really need. No complications. Yeah, I mean, there are many addictive things on our mobiles nowadays. For me, I still spend time on this online, technological platform, but it's FAR better than those other stuff.
Thanks for your insight. That was interesting :)
I have been in Thailand for about 18 months, and I am pretty much just wandering now. I had the idea of going off to see the world after my son was grown, but then I came to this fabulous place first and can't seem to make myself leave :) Malaysia might be next, but I have no firm plans except to find a swimming pool. This is the only lack I have now.
I'm interested to see your Part 2 on this subject.
WOW serious? :D So Thailand has you addicted hahaha. How's the pricing there? I want to start traveling, but do not know where to start with budgeting.
Yes, you could say I'm addicted to this place :) It's extremely cheap compared to California where I was. I pay about $300 for monthly rent and about $30 a week on everything else. I live out in a Thai neighborhood and don't do tourist stuff or drink so that cuts my costs a lot.
Then every 60 or 90 days here I need to leave the country and come back in, so that trip is 200-300 each time.
The advice I give for traveling is:
That's it! After the first time - you will be a pro :)
That was such a Lady-Boss answer! Thank you very much my friend! :)
I feel 100% more confident about my traveling ambitions right now!
I'm still not 100% sure what to include in the budget though..
Thank you! What a boost :)
You first need to find the place(s) you want to go and then look at budget. Every place in the world has cheap/expensive ways to go. I am cheap, so I can help you there :)
Here in Bangkok, you can find places for much, much more than I pay and also much, much less. The high end condos are $1000 a month +++.
I know a guy here paying only $80/month inclusive for a place he loves near the airport. He travels for his work and just wanted a quiet place that did not cost a lot of time and money to get to his frequent flights. No one wants to live near the airport, so he lucked out.
What are your top three dream destinations off the top of your head? Don't self-censor!
Wow it's so funny you mention this dude ! What an article for me to read at this exact time. I just got back from a week long backpacking trip with my dad and I had no service the whole time !! Jeez it was quite the eye opener . I was entertaining myself with sticks 😂😂 honestly it changed everything for me:) thanks for sharing your awesome insight. I'm a relatively new follower but I admire what you do here my friend ! Keep on hustling:) I know the grind and trust me it pays off! Hopefully we can be friends !
Brooo :D That was pretty funny to read, but also a great reminder for me. I do recall a few times when I lost connection, and it does really open your eyes up to reality.
Hahaha!! How was that experience? :D
I appreciate your kind words my man! Awesome to hear these nice things. Better late than never ey :D Of course we can be friends!
Oh for sure dude ! I'm so grateful I'm here at such an early stage for steemit :) your definitely an example of hard work my friend ! The trip I had was a blast man .. memories il hold forever ! I posted about it feel free to check it out if you haven't already.. so freeing
I used to a phone addict, until one day my toddler actually came up to me and asked me to "please put it down". This was a huge eye-opener and I felt like a terrible mom. Since then I only use my phone to contact someone or to check my Steemit account.
Hey Amie, that was quite a Lady-Boss comment right there! :)
I can only imagine that being quite an eye-opener if you toddler confronts you :D
Don't you just feel so much more free without that phone being needed all the time? :)
I also don't have any of those apps installed, because I hate the messages, telling me what to do over and over. Well, I don't play games on phone, because it seems very retarded to me - who likes games, will play them on HD TV or on PC where you can sit back and watch it on big screen. I got steem, few wallets and navigation apps. Those are things I really need
Totally agreed! All those things are just like bots on repeat. Telling us to do the same things over and over again.
Hahaha I like your style LOL! For me, this post was actually about jut tossing aside your distractions. So TV games could still count, but they are not nearly as bad sometimes as what a mobile smartphone is.
something like that. because specially for newbies and smaller children...they don't know how to handle ads, small viruses. And there is a bunch of them in so called "games". There is a big difference in mobile gamers or TV/PC gamers. Mobile gamers are playing their favourite games for half a day -on even smaller screen than tetris had. You walk down the street and look what young children are doing? Are they playing with physical ball or maybe they play fifa on their mobile? PC gamers set their date and hour, so they play together for an hour or two and that's it. But that's how I see things. In other countries may be totaly different
I do agree Facebook is gone crap , it is controlling what you will see , its hard to get real friends post. only sponsored useless videos are played to eat up your data. What you will get in return is waste of time for no purpose. Turn on Steem it and Start sharing for fun filled earning.
Yeah man! It's crazy. Just put on Steemit, and go mad :D
To be perfectly honest I used to have a lot of trouble with this as my phone used to buzz every time.
I then installed an app which silents out all those annoying apps for me in one click.
Now I am good. Free of all commotion.
A very interesting post, I do have FB and Insta on my phone but not the others
For now I will keep them I am pretty much posting and running on them, but they do generate the odd sale of a print so for now I will keep doing that it doesn’t really take much of my time :)
It's true what you're saying about instagram and facebook being life suckers - but just in certain casses. For example, Gary Vaynerchuck once said that "if you're a hot girl, you should devote 100% of your time to instagram"..he was saying that just to explain that insted of doing nothing, it's better to build a following..at least then you could monetize your time.. Not everyone can make money on steemit..Exhibit A(check my profile..haha).
Great post, keep up the good work!
Hahaha I like what you did there. Again, that is why I said 'most' people. There are definitely people out there who have these platforms to their advantage. Like for me, my 35K followers was brilliant leverage when I was in Network Marketing. It helped a ton with edification!
I get what Gary is saying there, but there's one problem to that.. Even if a super hot girl uses Instagram, and maybe even has a nice following, that does NOT mean she is monetizing it :D Most of those girls still don't know what they are doing!
It might be harsh, but I'm jut being real here :D
wow i think i have to emulate your lifestyle as an aspiring billionaire. And hey i like your markdown styling too. Can u teach me, @enazwahsdarb?
Hahaha I think you're closer than you think my man :) Your username is 'richforever' LOL!
My man, the markdown styling is pretty simple. Just go read a guide and start being creative :D There is a ton of thing you can do that is unique to you :)
i know that thang mannn. lol. i just dont give up easily. will surely get to know sooner or later! i think you are the kind of person i would like to strike acquaintance with.
I'm happy I never got into all this fb, Instagram or whatever might be our there. I did come into steem quite a bit but that's more for blogging and also I think the community is ty I'd very addictive. A lot of practical reasons for me.
I totally agree my man! It's nice to see and approach from people who didn't use the previous platforms.
Amen to what you said about the community! It's so true. It's just like nothing I have ever encountered before.
When I saw steemit is when I did this. I told myself why would I be wasting my time doing absolutely nothing proactive for my own personal development but browse mindlessly through fb or yt. I use a old phone only for messages and calling and that's it.
thanks for sharing keep it up
My pleasure. Thanks!

I don't even have a phone. I try to keep it that way for as long as I can. I'm the old style person, but I feel like I need one for emergencies or things like signing up on steemit. I just could never sit on the phone or FB, it gets me tired and frustrated. I love doing things and being out in nature and live life. I think the phones and computers and tv are life-suckers. I'm glad you wrote this post because I don't think people realize how much of their life they waste on the FB and Instagram and Youtube and TV. So good job @enazwahsdarb. Following so that I can see more of your powerful posts.
Congratulations @enazwahsdarb!
Your post was mentioned in the hit parade in the following category:
I think this post would be more aptly titled "Delete apps on your phone that eat up your time."
But I digress.
There's much more compelling reason for deleting the formentioned apps. They spy on you and sell the information they get from your daily use and sell off to the government and third group parties. Facebook uses face mapping technology to keep better track of you. Instagram is owned by Facebook so you can expect much of the same. Whatsapp was caught selling your personal information and I have little don't snapchat is no different.
YouTube is complete off the hinges with click bait but it's not that it's all claickbait but the it trending is artificial. They decide what you will see and not what people are actually watching. Also it's a pedo haven on there, no matter how many people flag inappropriate content related to pedophilia YouTube won't remove the videos.
To add to your list google doesn't respect privacy and openly censors web searches. I recommend switch your search engine to DuckDuckGo or startpage those two I know are good and respect your privacy.
