There are a couple of moments in my life where I think my life was a little nuts.
Nothing mental, just a little nuts.
Asking my dad for permission to smoke joints inside the house instead of in the park in the winter and him saying yes is right up there. (I was 16).
Today, explaining the concept of dporn to my mom was also an interesting experience.
I think I introduced her to a world she did not know existed, lol.
The only difference is, I'm now so old, I have become indifferent to a lot of stuff.
Someone asks, and I explain. Simple.
We were on our way to meet my grandmother.
She broke her hip recently and my mom asked if I wanted to tag along for a visit.
She's in the hospital.
When we arrived in her room she remembered me but she admitted she couldn't remember my name.
It's not her fault, I'm sure it's mine. I should visit more often.
She guessed Bram (Dutch name), close enough. It's also 1 syllable.
She is in a wheelchair so we rolled her downstairs to the lobby of the hospital which nowadays looks more like a hotel than a hospital.
I like it, feels cozy.
We got coffee and had a chat.
I asked her if it's easy to accept that you can't do certain things anymore when you get older.
She said that you get more grateful for little things.
She's happy her mind is still sound and that she can do her puzzles and remember people and feel the love from those same people.
She grabbed my arm several times, I did feel a slight guilt.
I think what she dislikes the most is her body failing her. Even though she can accept it.
She doesn't complain, takes life as it is. I find it very impressive.
We stayed for 90 minutes and then we went back.
My grandmother is 50 years older than I.
My body is not yet failing me although you do notice certain things.
That little crack in your back, the grey hairs, the knee that locks up from time to time and that drop of pee that sometimes appears out of nowhere even though you double dried the bastard.
So before it gets worse I want to enjoy life as much as I can.
I used to think this was selfish but I don't anymore.
Looking at my grandmother today I realised that in this life you only get one shot.
You better make the best of things.

Glad you are a family person.
You spent time with Sam and now your grandmother.
You are growing up fast mentally.
Your body is the only one you will ever have. Treat it really good.
Keep on steemin;
@exyle, thanks for this reality
@pouchon, yea we should enjoy life while we still can cos some day, we won't get the chance
Hahha, you had really cool relationship with your father lol
Seeing you sitting with your grandmother just reminded me of my grandmother. We used to talk a lot when I used to sit with her, now she lives in abroad.
By the way with is dporn? Is it porn platform on blockchain?
cool relationship with father and mother... couldn't imagine trying to explain dporn to my mother, lol
Yep! @dporn (I'm a mod in their discord), is a porn platform on blockchain. It's built on steem
Mark @exyle you mentioned you don't visit your grandmother enough. Try to visit her more often if you can. It will make you feel better inside and then you won't have regrets if you do visit her a lot. I lived with my Grandmother when I was in High School and I was closer to her than I ever was to my Mom. I look fondly back on simpler times when my Grandmother and I would play Board Games together like Monopoly and Scrabble. It was always so much fun. She was Very Good at Scrabble and I have to admit that when we played together it certainly helped me to increase my Vocabulary. Mark Please Listen to me this once if you will. Make the effort to visit with her as often as you feel like it. Honor for our Elders is so IMPORTANT. I will leave you with this thought and take it as you may, your Grandmother is a Blessing and without her you would not be here. Life is Precious and so is your Grandmother............
Lol, your dad’s reaction was amazing! You mantioned your grandmother is at the hospital. I hope she gets well soon.
Your grandmother has reached 90 years. But she still has a strong memory power. This is very rare. You are so lucky. You can also enjoy long life. Because you have the desire to enjoy a happy life. I saw a picture of your mother at one of your posts. I liked it so much ... what else would I say? I like all of your posts written about life. I read it attentively. I think I got the power of life about your writing.
Thanks @exyle sir
Hii @exyle, by visiting and hospitality of your grandmother I think you feel fresh and stress less. I hope that she recovered soon. May she Live long. everyone should be caring of his elders.
Thank you.
Hey sir @exyle
Your article is about caring and loving. I hope your grandmother is quite well and healthy. Smiling of grandmother is really awesome and your a great person to carry his relation for long terms. Its nice steeming for community.
Keep it up man and stay blessed
Oh yes, very true of our sojourn on this earth and it better be memorable. That is why I believe you should make yourself happy no matter what happens to you or the conditions you are. You should not let any thing affect a pinch of your happiness. Ultimate goal!
Grey-headness, they say,"Is the beauty of the old"! A young boy today becomes a young man tomorrow and tomorrow an old man- thats the chain of human growth...
"The young shall grow", so was your grandma told in her youthful age, now she has grown old, grandma should be between 75 & 80 years of age (she can no longer do virtually all she does when she was much younger, to add fuel to fire, she got her hip broken! geeeezzz... Please do visit her more, she needs you more.
Now, we too have been told the same words grandma was told then-" the young shall grow", though we're growing not old yet (lol), still agile, strong and filled with vigour- "we want to make the best of things" (I quote you) before the time comes and we now say(in line with the thoughts of wise King Solomon):
i hope that, now you fully stressless and tension free.you visiting hospital of your grandmother to seeing.i pray to god she is quickly come back of her bad body condition. And also happy to know @exyle sir, still have a grandmother becos i lost mine a while ago, and her memories are still fresh.thanks to sharing for your good post..very well done sir...@exyle
I'm so glad I read this. It even made me tear up a bit. Thank you for that.
I never thought about enjoying life as being selfish...or maybe I have a bit, and that's probably what stops some of my decisions. But I think if I make it to being old, it will still feel like I don't have enough time...that it all went too quickly. I feel like this is one of those moments that something switches in my brain and I see things a little differently now.
When we take joy in the simple things our opportunity for joy increases.
At 41 thinking about aging with grace has become more and more common for me, knowing that I have work to do if I want to preserve my range of movement and my mental health can be a bit intimidating, but I know I can do it if I get engaged.
Thanks for this post about visiting your elder, as a society in the USA we often abandon our elderly. It's saddening to see elders, disabled in the streets begging for help. It makes me wonder if they had children, or if they are grandparents. We need to be more present for our elders, they deserve it.
I just had a very similar conversation @exyle with my mum who is 87.
She also said the body failing is the worse part. She has really bad arthritis and is now finding it really difficult to stand although she's better when she's moving. She had 2 falls last year and feels that was the main reason for the massive decline.
She also notices but has gotten used to the fact that you become invisible as you get older. I have noticed this too. People value your opinion less and talk over you. She has made her peace with that but it's pretty sad all the same.
You are right. it's important to enjoy your life as much as you can. But that's true at any age. it's worth doing those things now though that physically you will not be able to do at some point.
But I though you were doing pretty much want you wanted to do. i'm curious. What do you think you could be doing which would mean you enjoy your life more? If that's not too personal a question. 😁
Maybe I should have written I realized 'again' you only get one shot. I have transformed my life for 5 years and I continue to do so. I guess I would like to experience more new things. Let's see, 9th April all my ongoing business contracts end.
That's great @exyle. 9th April is not long is it? Are you going to have a big celebration with the green egg? 😁
This has been on my mind lately, too. I'm mentally exhausted trying to convince a friend of mine she needs to do something with her life. And fast...
(I'm still wondering how did you end up talking about dporn with your grandmother!?)
lol the dporn though...
With my mom. Not sure if that's better, lol. But she is an investor in STEEM so it makes sense.
Well buddy hope she gets well soon !
Well that experience of getting to know things is certainly great ;)
Well your mom seems to be getting to know Blockchain a lot better thanks to you :)
Yeah sure buddy as age goes by certain things will fall but the love between the bonds of family will surely remain there !
That's a very powerful story. Age kinda creeps up on you. I liked what your grandmother said about being grateful for the little things in life. It's true.
I wish my grandparents were still alive to talk to them today. I'm glad to have had them around when I was a child. You're right. We have one shot and we should live it. I'm in the process of figuring out my future now. I'm 43. I've given my employer 10 years of my life. I'm out. I'm going to work for myself even if it means less money. Time and happiness are more important.
This part really got me, I feel old already because this is basically my watchword in life. Appreciate every little thing that life throws at you.
Your grandma still looks very beautiful, can imagine how lovely she was when she was younger. I do drop by at my grandmom's place sometimes when I go to church. I noticed she loved having someone around her so she can talk about most of her interesting childhood stories.
You're also right about us having just one shot at life so we need to live it to the fullest.
Oh oh, I wish your grandma a quick recovery... It's not easy for people her age to recall names, shows she's still on track somehow.
I never got the opportunity to meet my grand parents... You a lucky man sir @exyle.. Life is short so it's better to enjoy it while it lasts.. smiles
That's life, as they say.
My grandad is ninety, and we think he'll be in the care home shortly. I remember him in his 60s - being a brick layer all his left made him look tanned and strong.
It's tough to see people not how they were, but yeah, shit happens. Speaking of that:
that made me laugh out loud, only cause i'm suffering from the same shit these days! ok, a few years haha
Enjoy the ride, and remember to wipe that up before Bianca steps in it and gives you a bollocking!
I'm glad at least someone could relate :)
sadly, yes, that's me - the guy turning fking 40 this december!
We are dealing many of the same things with our Grandmothers (my Wife's and mine). Heart issues, dementia, hip replacement, strokes...just to name the most recent issues. It's hell getting old as my Grandfather says, that and Youth is wasted on the Young.
That statement used to confuse the crap out of me, Youth is Wasted on the Young. Well it's true. Once your old and your body is failing you, once you have worked your life away, once you have seen enough things, and learned to appreciate life for what it is it's to late to truly live life.
Your recent changes in life tell me you are going to take that one shot at life and live it.
I'm working on a plan to change to world travelers with the family. It will require many sacrifices along the way, but think that if I try to wait until the time is right there just never will be a time. I'm going to take a shot and hopefully it works out as expected or better, but either way I'll have tried.
Yeah, and some of these changes are pretty scary at times even though I plan them well. I hope you will be able to live your dream of traveling.
I do also. The plan is about a 2 year one to transition to online/digital earning to allow me to be anywhere in the world and keep earning. Would love to visit different steemians I've met around the world and then spend anywhere from a month to three based on how much we enjoy it. Don't think I will be able to make Steemit a sole income stream in 2 years, but if I can grow this account to a point that it even supplements some of my income that would help.
Figure posts from around the world meeting others and arranging meetups as I travel would be a great way to keep active here and have a lot of fun at the same time.
Sure plenty of people say they want to do this, but I'm actually working on the action plan towards achieving it.
Great story...your grandma looks like one cool lady. It is still good that her memory is ok and I think you can learn a lot by listening to her. She knows what stage in life u are and can give good guidance.Visit her more often, listen to the stories of life and gather lots of golden nuggets. I agree that this life is short and we must live it to the fullest, before we know it age creeps up on us.
I think we always feel a little guilt when we see a loved one in less than perfect health. Glad she has a good attitude. I think maybe you inherited that from her :)
I laughed at loud at imagening you receiving the permission for smoking joints in house, explaining dporn to your mom, and "that drop of pee". Your posts always make me laugh, thank you for that.
Your grandmother is a wise old lady. We should all be grateful for the small and big things alike, so that our life doesn't pass by while we were doing something else. : )
Damn right, it's too short to waste this life we have.
You are lucky, I dont think I could even get close to explaining dporn to my mum :o)
Give it a shot, I'm sure there would be a story there :)
Hehe, you might have a point :0D
You got that right, one shot...and take it, as you describe so to the point...We are getting older, we notice things with just living the life... And before you know it, your on the way back... This afternoon I was smoking a sigarette (yep, sorry) and was standing looking at a school some further up the road... Seeing those kids, what a worrieless life the have for now... I was realizing that I am past the half of my life (44 now) , that one entered I can tell you... Not that I am desperate or so, but it makes you think... So take life and all the beautiful things.. Like visiting your grandmother, doing the things you like !!! Have a great night !!
Lucky you! You reached your conclusion early! You've got your one shot. You've got health and resources. What ya gonna do? Have a baby? Well in retrospect it is what you lack. Just sayin...
Explaining the concept of dporn to mom LOL, grandmother broke her hip this does not surprise me I done a post not long ago about it being one of the most common problem faced by older people and if a new invention would prevent this from happening anyway you should see her more @exyle I miss my grandmother terribly and I see those things happening more also as I age argh.
You do only get one shot in life. Make the most of it. And I will give you a bit of a guilt trip too. Go see your grandmother more often! She obviously misses you!
@exyle,
Wow I never heard before about your grand mother! Every day we are stepping to where your grand mom belongs now! But memories are the thing that we bring there! So I hope you already got a lot of good memories and you will be too!
Hope to see you on this platform after 60 years from now too! Just imagine how things went crazy then!
Cheers~
I hope she heals soon 🍀
But i cant stop laughing you asked your dad to allow you do weed at home 😂
Friend very interesting the good is that you still have time to correct any thing past
I am sorry about your grandmother breaking her hips @exyle, and am happy for you haveing yours with you still. I never got the chance to meet any of my grand parents.
We only have one life to live, the best we can do is make it count for we shall pass the way but once.
I hope she gets better soon and go back home. Have a nice trip home too.
My grandfather and grandmother have both died. I was very young when my grandfather died. But grandmother died last year. My relationship with my grandmother was very good. . I still miss my grandmother's memories. Your contact with your grandmother seems a little less, because you said that your grandmother did not recognize you after seeing you. . I think you should increase your communication with your grandmother. However, wish for your grandmother's physical wellbeing and welfare. .
Stay blessed dear @exyle
Hopefully your grandma is good. If there is a difference in body with Bose, it is statistically and we should be able to maintain some variation in the body, such as eating jogging in the morning and taking part in various activities, our body will remain fit to maintain the body's thermal conductive cells and we Can live till the right time.
i also hope so!
Yes I hope she gets well and sticks around longer
wonderful photography...and post is great...keep it up brother
You are a wonderful person, my friend, I am always watching you
You are like me here. I wish you every success.
My grandfather died a few days ago. He was suffering from cancer and had problems in his breathing, for which he could not survive many days, many doctors were shown and told the doctor he had very little time in which for which we did not get treatment and he died in an inevitable hope that you are good and that such a condition Will not be!
wow well story like this keep it up
i love your post dear, rerally know some thing new metter...
Indeed. I lost my grandpa few months ago and i still feel the void its left in my life. Watching his rocking chair lie empty and dust settle in his study
Hahaha! Explaining to your grandma about dporn? That's insane. Great post though! Thanks for sharing.
Relax, to his mother!
Great story. Your grandmother is awesome @exyle
Excellent post i like it @exyle
I wish I grew up to meet my grannies, unfortunately, I didn't meet any when I arrived on earth. Like you said, in life you only get one shot, make the best of it.
Getting old is an inevitable part of life. Old age comes with many challenges but if we lead an exemplary life, our old age can be rewarding. Your grandma looks adorable
Wow happy to hear and see your mum looking beautiful and healthy. And also happy to know @exyle still have a grandmum cos i lost mine a while ago, and her menories are still fresh.
Send my greetings to your grandmum @exyle
yes, because chance only once then you have to do the best you can do right now, and be happy by doing the best
For me this is the sad part of story.
When we arrived in her room she remembered me but she admitted she couldn't remember my name.
It's not her fault, I'm sure it's mine. I should visit more often.
