A Serious Issue in the City Where I Live

Moped-theft.jpg

There's a huge problem facing the residents near to where I live and it involves so-called "hyper" mopeds and young delinquents.

Within the last few months, "vehicle theft" crimes are on the rise. And the above combination is proving to be the main culprit almost every time. And with the usual fake plates that they use, it's almost an impossible endeavour to search them out for an arrest. Do a search on YouTube for "London moped theft" and you'll see all manner of barbaric, disgusting youths stealing and/or vandalizing other people's transportation. Sometimes right under their noses and in broad daylight! And because of their ages, they get let off with a simple slap on the wrist, only to go out and commit the same atrocious deeds once more.

Myself, as well as many in my area, are extremely worried about this as it seems the London police force are being stifled by parliamentary rules protecting these filthy young tearaways. Imagine this? One of these scumbags comes and steals your vehicle, but for whatever reason they get injured mid-process due a fault in the mechanics or whatever. You are then liable for compensation in regards to their healthcare costs for "your" negligence! How in the hell does that make sense?

The public seem unanimously in favour of much harsh punishments for crimes of this nature, regardless of age, but with prison cells apparently stuffed to capacity, the powers that be hold up their hands up in surrender and continually decry the general consensus of opinion! This state of affairs is an absolutely shambles and unless things are done to improve the situation we Londoners potentially face on a daily basis, I see an increase in vigilantism and other such defence tactics orchestrated by it's citizens. I read that even police are told to be "careful" when chasing such criminals down on these moped for fear of accidentally injuring them whilst on the run! What is this world coming to, I ask you?

And sadly, I don't see an agreeable solution on the horizon. This country cares "too much" about the humanitarian rights of these "under privileged" teenagers. So much so that it's implementation runs at the expense of the public themselves. The very same people they are suppose to fight for! If the authorities in charge constantly preside over our us all in fear from the actual law-breakers, what chance do the rest of us have? As I said, it's a serious worry for the residents of this otherwise great city and one that makes me reconsider other "options" as to where I might want to live in the future. God knows how the elderly must feel with such white-collar jokers responsible for their well-being. It appears the worse you live your life, the more governmental assistance you receive.

Truly a world gone mad... Well, the world "I" live in anyways.

We get the same here in Canada, the cops are always looking the other way because they don't have a choice . Here in Alberta the farmers are getting robbed on their farms by thieves and the farmers can't even shoot them bastards on their own land. The law protects the criminals and I don't care what any one likes to say against that. What really burns me up is that the people that are paying for these useless tits doing the crimes are the people that are paying most of taxes.

Try to look after yourself , after all the politicians are not going to help us because they are the biggest criminals in any country and they are the only ones that can change the laws.

I second every word you say, buddy and wasn't aware that these ridiculous situations occur even outside "home" grounds. I refuse to live in fear as do you, so yeah, looking out for your own safety and doing as much as we can to prevent things like this happening to us, is paramount.

Bless and thank you for the comment. :)

It is crazy how the crime epidemic, and the feelings of support for the criminal, is spreading throughout the lands. I grew up in south Florida and it used to be a quiet area and everyone knew their neighbors. Now a days you don't know what to expect as you walk down the street. The guy next to you is either going to want to shake your hand or rob your wallet. I personally think that as the rule of law no longer pertains to our elites, and there are no repercussions to their law breaking, then that mentality is going to permeate thru the rest of society. Which is what we are seeing now and is why crime is escalating rapidly. I moved to a so called third world country a few years back...and I feel safer here then in the city I was raised in. Times are changing. Let us hope for the best.

Wow, what a change for you! And I feel your sentiments as sometimes I want to move somewhere known for being a bit "safer". But until punishments fit the crime, I don't see things improving anytime soon.

Thanks for stopping by. :)

@ezzy There is a simple solution for this.... If the government thinks of them as the underprivileged then the government should provide them with some opportunities for a better life... The government can even raise funds for such teenagers... If the government cares so much for them then why not give them a better life. It seems obvious to me that if they will have a better life then they won't do such things ever again.

I mentioned "under privileged" in quotes in my post as that is how they are perceived to be, but in London, believe me, they have it real easy. For the gang culture so prevalent in this city, we need much sterner sentencing to serve as an appropriate deterrent.

Thanks for the input.

If that's what the condition is; then the government and the police must take substantial action to curb such practices.... There's no point in being a mere observer. And if they really don't do anything then we can always turn to technology (like fitting GPS devices or something like that in the vehicle).

Well said... :)

Quite simply the Government is going after the soft target by shifting the blame to the vehicle owner or others involved in recovering the stolen item.
If you choose to steal - for whatever reason - then you are the responsible party for everything that occurs related to the matter - damage to self, others, property, etc.
