Well... the thing is we are kind of customers and suppliers/employees (as we produce the content that keeps steemit interesting - as proven when we all disappeared for a few days) and I think we deserve a bit of respect. If steemit inc et al are serious about becoming a respected company/asset whatever they had better start behaving like one. Proper planning and communication are the hallmarks of professionals. People panic when the lights go out without warning: look at what happens on the financial markets when someone farts in the wrong direction. I hope this was a warning to them: frankly it's not the users who need to grow up

But the thing is they "were" transparent, buddy. They even made a post before HF20 stating that the blockchain would need a week to adjust. But still the screamers yelled and wanted their system "right here, right now". In an abusive and aggressive manner. I don't condone that approach one iota. Remember, Steem is not our right, but our privilege. That's the mistake people make. The employee/supplier model can't work here as they, in effect, don't owe us anything. No contracts exist binding any one of us, in any way, to Steem Inc. Therefore affording them the same courtesy of patience and understanding when resolving these inevitable issues should be the least the community can offer in return for said privilege. My personal opinion, of course.
Okay, I don't condone screening or aggression either. I didn't see any of that (I don't hang out in discord much). All I saw was disappointment, and disillusionment.
You're right about employee thing not applying. And that its not a right. But I don't believe its a privilege either.
We are all investors in steemit (time, content, cash whatever - I have invested all three, although not as much as some).
Yes, there was a vague warning of potential disruption, but it didn't spell out what that might mean (if I had had warning my VP would be reset I would have uovoted more people, before the implementation, for example.
Add that to the disruption to the service a few days before and I can understand the frustration (I, myself, just sat and watched and waited).
