Ah, reminiscing on beautiful comments like that makes you wanna read it and weep. With joy, that is! Gone are those spammy gems that we all just grew to live with up in here. And about time too. As the Steem blockchain is gradually transforming into an entirely new beast altogether...

The highly anticipated HF20 has come and gone. And we now have a slightly altered system to get used to once more. Though nothing that requires a degree in rocket science to figure out, I hope you'll agree. The new model of "pay to play" (as people have aptly put it) is in place. So, without going into the mechanics of how it all actually works, what are my thoughts on this?

Well, I'd start by saying one step further to a fairer and more structured system for the future. Of course, this comes at a price, in terms of the amount of "usability" somebody starting out will have (or those with little Steem Power). But, the way I see it, the pros do outweigh the cons. For instance, spam has literally been obliterated, meaning less clogging up of unnecessary bandwidth slowing down the system. Huge plus point right there. It also has the added advantage of making "holding" SP that bit more desirable. After all (and this is the part many don't fully get a grasp of), we are all in this together. There is no winner or loser as such. Just a set of past actions that have brought us regular users to where we stand today, in regards to our account.

So, I also urge you, to work "with" the Steem Inc. team on this and not against them. Change is always met with resistance. It's an integral part of the way we humans behave. And an unfortunate trait it is too, on many an occasion. Anything that deviates from the norm is automatically seen as "bad", yet the very fact we even made it as a species was all because of our distant ancestors thinking out of the box and innovating to survive. Just let that sink in for a minute.

I feel in about a years time from now, the Steem blockchain will be unrecognisable from what it is today. Steemit would be considered just another in a plethora of Dapps enjoying the advantages of the Steem blockchain. If Steemit is even around anymore in its current iteration! There is a much bigger picture at play here. Dwarfing you or I. Far exceeding our precious little blogs that we like to place so much protective emphasis on. Keep a firm focus on that future prospect and the trivialities of a meagre "5-day" wait window until the system auto-corrects itself, will seem almost non-existent.

I'd also like to make a quick mention of all the negative posts that surfaced whilst this all-in-all "successful" hard fork took place a few days back. Don't get suckered into the BS. It's interesting that a few key names like to rile up the masses by spewing hate and venom about how Steem is dying or @ned and the team are trying to scam us, whilst at the same time hedging their bets by hanging onto the "large stake" they continually have sitting in their wallets. If it really was so bad, wouldn't these howling naysayers have shovelled out whatever they could by now, before the imminent price crash to zero? Who do you think will be laughing all the way to the bank when Steem skyrockets in value and those individuals who followed their advice are left scratching their heads as to "what happened"? Again, it helps to look at the bigger picture and train your mind to consistently keep that as the overall main goal.

I wish for none of you to ever leave this platform. Even the haters. After all, Steem will flourish more given the size of the community as a whole. There is literally no point if it's just whale on whale action. And if buying some Steem is a way to gain more access to the features of this blockchain, then so be it! Don't fight it! Belief plays a key factor here and if you really do envision this eco-system hitting the potential heights that so many others do, that's money well invested for your future on the platform.

So, in regards to this new direction Steem is taking, you can simply "deal" with it. Or you can choose to "embrace" it. That decision falls on your shoulders alone. However, look at all the hard facts closely before arriving at a final judgement and ask yourself...

Do I want to be on-board this train too?

On the flip less can upvote till RC (Recover Confidence? ) 😎

Confidence "will" and "is" being recovered, my friend. :)

After the five days of correcting the system, it's indeed looking like a good, successful hardfork.
However, five days of not being able to use the Steem platform in any meaningful way is a bit long for me.
Luckily most of it has settled in now, so we can finally enjoy the benefits of this hardfork.

Thanks for the great read @ezzy!

Lol, five days can feel like an eternity for us Steemians. I hear ya! But in the grand scheme of things, this ultra important "fork" in the road, will presumably propagate for years now. So but a mere five days of our time forfeited for the overall bigger picture of the Steem blockchain? It's not too bad, I reckon... :)

Indeed, I'd rather be unable to use Steem for five days than have to sit with all those spammers for the next couple of years.

This is probably much less of a problem for you, but only being able to post eleven things per five days is quite limiting. On the other hand, it does encourage you to write quality content, which I think will be a major positive change for the Steem platform.

About that pay to play, that does work out nice with this low RC count. You have to put a lot of work in your posts, because you have limited opportunities. And time is money, so essentially I'm paying to use Steem. :)

Let's just hope that my "quality content" will be enough to be a little more active here on Steem.

You got the right mindset, man. Posting and investing to how I and a few others I know on here, got to where we are. Everybody starts out at the beginning and will have journeyed to their current destination through time, money and effort.

You can do the same, without a doubt. It's most definitely not too late at all! :)

I think the negativity came from the poor communication and preparation and Ned, steemit inc and the Senior witnesses bear responsibility for that. That said, as the dust settles I think we are starting to see the positives...

True, the Steem Inc. team are known to stay quiet during updates and whatnot, but at the same, a little common sense should tell us as users of the platform to sit tight and be patient. The screams started within the first few minutes of the execution of HF20.

Well... the thing is we are kind of customers and suppliers/employees (as we produce the content that keeps steemit interesting - as proven when we all disappeared for a few days) and I think we deserve a bit of respect. If steemit inc et al are serious about becoming a respected company/asset whatever they had better start behaving like one. Proper planning and communication are the hallmarks of professionals. People panic when the lights go out without warning: look at what happens on the financial markets when someone farts in the wrong direction. I hope this was a warning to them: frankly it's not the users who need to grow up

But the thing is they "were" transparent, buddy. They even made a post before HF20 stating that the blockchain would need a week to adjust. But still the screamers yelled and wanted their system "right here, right now". In an abusive and aggressive manner. I don't condone that approach one iota. Remember, Steem is not our right, but our privilege. That's the mistake people make. The employee/supplier model can't work here as they, in effect, don't owe us anything. No contracts exist binding any one of us, in any way, to Steem Inc. Therefore affording them the same courtesy of patience and understanding when resolving these inevitable issues should be the least the community can offer in return for said privilege. My personal opinion, of course.

Okay, I don't condone screening or aggression either. I didn't see any of that (I don't hang out in discord much). All I saw was disappointment, and disillusionment.

You're right about employee thing not applying. And that its not a right. But I don't believe its a privilege either.

We are all investors in steemit (time, content, cash whatever - I have invested all three, although not as much as some).

Yes, there was a vague warning of potential disruption, but it didn't spell out what that might mean (if I had had warning my VP would be reset I would have uovoted more people, before the implementation, for example.

Add that to the disruption to the service a few days before and I can understand the frustration (I, myself, just sat and watched and waited).

Having blocked most of India, I had no idea the new hard fork eliminated spam. I can't see them anyway.

Sure has, bud. Which means you're safe in the knowledge that you won't have to go crazy on that "mute" button anymore.

Great post! I'm a newbie and HF20 was one of the first things I encountered. It definitely sucked!....at the time, but I envision great things for the Steem blockchain in the future, I'm determined to add my little bit of value to it whenever I can :)

The turnaround will be awesome. :)

Am a newbie too, I really enjoyed it

After steemit got a new update. The system was really cool. This is a new platform that will definitely have many new updates in the near future. I believe in the future of steemit platform

I have so many questions I can't find exact answers to yet it still a 'work in progress?'

I couldn't agree more with the valid and clear points you made, I would never be able to put it so eloquently in a diplomatic fashion!

I'll just continue to sit on my hands over here

Many thanks, bud. :)
