Wherever in the world you are and whatever you do, feel greeted and hugged. Welcome to my Bali-Diary: Life on the Island of Gods!

Today, I wanna talk about a problem that makes me feel sad, angry and helpless. I live on this beautiful tropical island, and yes, it sometimes feels like paradise.
On the other hand, tourism has flooded Bali in the last decades and with it came the rubbish. I don't know how much of it actually comes from the people in Bali and how much maybe also comes from the sea itself. But what I know for a fact, is that it f**king sucks!
There are times when I go for a swim at the beach closest to my home and I feel like I am bathing in a sea of plastic. I am not exaggerating: Depending on the season, it often happens that there is not a single moment without any plastic touching my body in the water. It is incredibly disgusting and makes me wanna puke.
Me standing on the mountain on the right - this time mostly wood admittedly - is kind of a metaphor for my fight against the rubbish. I cannot do much, but I can use less plastic bags, buy groceries in reusable bags and take some rubbish to a bin whenever I am at the beach. I am trying to take it with a little bit of humor as well.
The solution to Bali's rubbish problem has to be found on a bigger scale, obviously, and it's not my place to do that. Still, I believe we all can contribute to a cleaner and less polluted place.
So, I want to motivate you guys as well: Let's try to use less plastic and make this world a cleaner place together!
How about you? Where do you notice plastic pollution the most? Are you doing something against it?
VERSI BAHASA
Life on the Island of Gods!

Terima kasih
It's really bali?. . :D๐
I remember my first time in Indonesia going out for a surf and being shocked because I thought that there were jellyfish surrounding me. Naturally I was worried about getting stung but upon a closer look I realized the gentle movement that so closely resembled jellyfish were actually plastic bags floating in the water.
I was instantly saddened by this experience because all around me was such breathtaking scenery and to see these plastic monsters floating by instantly took a bit of that beauty away.
In the moment I had to remind myself that not to long ago everything was wrapped in banana leaves or some other organic material so once someone was done with their take away they would simply throw the wrapping on the ground. No harm there. This habit has persisted today and unfortuantly there has been a shift to take away being put into plastic and foam containers so now the result of this habit is the pollution that you speak of.
Luckily a local like you is taking the time to make people aware of this issue! We need to keep educating the citizens of the world so that this problem will eventually disappear. It is going to take a lot of time and hard work but as a human race I believe we can do this. Good on you for getting out there and spreading the good word :)
I will be back in Bali in a week here and can't wait to see what has or hasn't changed since my last time. Do you know if there is a steemit community on Bali? I would love to meetup with other Steemians when I am there :)
Cheers!
Hey, I totally agree with what you say, being in the water in the beautiful scenery and swimming in plastic bags is just disgusting... I am not sure about the Steemit community here yet, I basically just started my blog a week ago. But probably you will find one hehe :-) Thanks for your support and let's make the world a cleaner place together!
Ohh my God. I am from Flores Indonesia. Bali sits in the middle of the Indonesian Throughflow, a current that streams from the Pacific Ocean into the Indian Ocean through the straits of Indonesia. This means that plastic waste could either be local or brought in from as far away as the Pacific Ocean. The plastic I saw mainly had Indonesian labelling but because of the current could be coming from anywhere in Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia. Add data pollution in Bali https://www.numbeo.com/pollution/in/Bali
I totally agree with you @herbaliblog we can do it together in our own little way. ๐
true, let's work together :-)
It's nice you care about nature and others, and you are passionate about creating awareness about it. Would be following your blog. Would be nice if you could check out mine too. :)
i will, thank you!
Near my house there's a beach that's almost as dirty and that makes me very sad. On the brighter side though, my government had banned the use of plastics so our future is looking cleaner :)
well done, which country again?
Kenya.
We have banned polybags here in India, but the problem of pollution continues, despite all government measures. I feel change can come only if it's community driven. If Public doesn't care about it, Nothing can happen.
totally agreed, we need to raise the awareness!

I've seen the same thing in Bali. The problem is even worse in non-tourist beaches like Nyang Nyang. Much of it is probably washed up but I've seen many locals just leave their garbage where they used it and not care about binning it. I think the main root of the problem is lack of education about pollution in Indonesia.
it definitely is. that's why I think we should all talk about it and the consequences as much as possible! thanks for the support Dave :-)
betul sekali!!!
I don't like rubbish and saw it in Vietnam. I talked to many Vietnamese about it. Thanks for sharing, hehe. I'm Oatmeal Joey Arnold. You can call me Joey.

Iya betul
Masalah paling klise se-Indonesia .๐
Gak cuma Bali .
Saya pikir harus buat kontes seperti di steemit program kreasi buat sampah menjadi manfaat...maybe...๐
Salam kenal dari Aceh kak @herbaliblog
betul! salam balik :-)
people leave to travel or to salt the best places
the same problem here in Morocco in some very beautiful beaches and the misfortune of times you find nomads with their tent and when they leave do not even try to pick up their waste
a nomad or a tourist must have a holy spirit towards the environment normally but we find the opposite in recent years
Waaaaw.. speechless..Luaaar biasa sampahnya. ๐
wow that is extremely amazing views. i cant wait your new blog.
setuju!
Sangat perfeck tanggapan nya
Tough problem. Good post for raising awareness.
