The Day I Went To Battle...

Today was the first day of my Adult and Education Training Course and it is being held in a place called Battle.

First I had to get up about an hour earlier than I usually did, (okay so it ended up about half an hour courtesy of the snooze button). But I crawled out of bed and made it into the bathroom to have my cold shower, which kicked the senses and brain into action.

Got the kids out of bed and dressed and actually got them to Breakfast Club at their school in time.

Missed the train I wanted by about 1 minute, so sat on the train station and wrote a poem about the sea, I still have the last line to complete, as couldn't think of the word I wanted to finish it.

I arrived in Battle at 9, plenty of time to get to where I needed for 9.30.

I was pleasantly surprised from the moment I arrived at this place obviously steeped in 1066 battle history.

Battle train station was an old converted chapel. It was very welcoming.

I also got to walk past Battle Abbey. It is almost a century old.

Battle is the site where William, Duke of Normandy won the battle against King Harold II to become William I in 1066 and Battle Abbey was build to commemorate the battle and was dedicated in 1095.

It is said that the high altar of the Abbey church is the spot where King Harrold II died.

It is beautiful.

I am in love with this place. And I have also discovered there is a cafe here that serves these:

Am I going to be able to come here for 18 weeks and resist the chocolate heart attack?

Then, of course, I couldn't find the place where the course was (directions and I just don't see eye to eye), so I ended up being 15 minutes late, still, I know for next time. And the place was right in front of my nose, I just didn't think it would actually be on the school premises, behind gates that you have to ring to get access to.

It is going to be a good course, the premise is on making learning fun and that seems a cool approach to learn and apply.

Plenty more days to Battle :)

The train was delayed on the way home and I discovered a really interesting book in the Battle station waiting room on getting out of your comfort zone by using your other hand to do writing, which I will write a post on soon, once I have a chance to try it out for a bit. At least I'm typing with two hands, so the left one doesn't feel left out all the time.

Hey, maybe next week I might be able to use my camcorder in Battle briefly, create some DTube fodder when it finally arrives...

And when I picked up the kids, their nicely placed hairbands had ended up in interesting styles that made them look like Roger Federer...

The meaning of your title is quite ambiguos, wow why do many ancient things there?

The area of Sussex where I live is steeped in this kind of history.

looks like a nice place, cant wait your videos on Dtube :)

soon, soon the camcorder must arrive soon. And I need to sort out a new phone too.

A lovely story of your day with awesome photos - just what I enjoy! I would like to see some closer photos of those centuries old buildings!

I will try and get a little bit more up close and personal with the buildings next week. Take some pictures of the windows and building quirks.

That will be awesome! (Nice hair ;) )

Just died of cuteness seeing the children's missed teethe 😍

On a serious note, beaautiful church, and no I definitely would not be able to resist that chocolate everyday 😉

Otherwise, if you're into travelling, vlogs, fitness, self-development etc feel free to check out my channel, in any case keep up the good work and I'll see you around! :)

Indeed I will see you around William, I don't think I will have time to enjoy the chocolate, unless I get there early and have one for breakfast. There's an idea if the cafe is open.

Just watch out for those knights! There's countless movies where statues come to life :)

There certainly are. I will be ready.

Take some jiu-jitsu classes XD

When the hurlyburly´s done, when the battle´s lost and won. 😉

My hurlyburly is ongoing, the battle was a long time ago lol.

Wow, dates of the events and the buildings are impressive. Definitely such place creates the necessary atmosphere to feel the greatness of history. It's great that also used role-playing element that allows you to dive deeper

It really does feel an epic place.

Goodness, I can't even look at that cafe dessert thing without thinking about the crazy amount of sugar that must be in there.

The second to last photo with the scultpture is really interesting and strange. Wiry, skeletal horse. Looks like a fun place to explore!

Yes, it looks like there are some lovely walks there. I have a couple of friends who live there, so might venture out there with the children one weekend. I do believe they have a climbing wall there somewhere, so that would be a good activity before heart attack by chocolate.

To write a poem while waiting for the train! Amazing and astonishing.

And I am a chocolate addict for sure, I would not resist eating all these and who knows what would happen after 18 weeks. :/

When a poem needs to get out my head, it doesn't take long and it was a 20-minute wait. The chocaholic smoothies do look mighty fine.

The Kids are adorable Helen! I think they've been to Battle as well. ^^

I've read about William, Duke of Normandy (he was one of the characters) on a romance novel back when I was in high school.

The daily school battle. It is a small world. I don't know a lot about history down here. But getting more interested in it.

Cold showers. I've only ever had these by accident, if the hot water boiler trips. Aaaarrrgh. I'm not brave enough for these yet. Maybe in summer.

Battle: looks nice and historic there.

Those mugs of hedonism tho!!!

Awwww your kids are so cute. The little one's got the mischief in her face hahaha.

This post has inspired me to share a bit about my fam.

Thanks Helen :)

I was interested to read about your day and your battle. I want to say that you live in a very beautiful city (judging by the photos)
I wish good luck in your confrontation :)

I just visited here. Its a little train journey away from where I live, but if I move anytime soon and want to stay in the area, I will be looking here.

Lol does the place have wifi?

You know what, I don't know lol (but I'm sure it does somewhere)

amazing photos, i love those kinds of buildings and your kids looks so cute :) i hope you do fine on your course and btw i would definitely have an chocolate heart attack, those milkshakes looks amazing!

Its crazy how old that site is. They must do a great job of maintaining it I assume.

I'm mildly envious, as most of my heritage is from the British Isles, but I've yet to visit the UK. Hopefully one day soon.

My whole family loved history, and my mom was pretty much a compendium of knowledge about the Battle of Hastings, which was always fascinating to me.

When I was little my dad's aunt visited, and L.A.'s Rose Hills Memorial Park, which has world famous rose gardens, which was why my mom took my aunt to visit, and at the time they had a large installation on the Battle of Hastings.

Somewhere along the line, something triggered their senses of humor, and my mom said that by the time they got through it all, it was a wonder they didn't get kicked out for disrupting the other guests. They were pretty hilarious when they got together. Good times.

In any case, I'd love it if you would share some of your insights gained during the course, as I'm in the early stages of creating some online courses, and clearly making them fun will encourage people to actually complete them, and gain the knowledge they are seeking.

I'd far rather that, than that they pay for them and just let them sit there, which I've done with a few courses that failed to spark my interest.

Best of luck in your pursuits, and wishing you the best, along with your little ones, who, despite the hair, don't look a thing like Federer. ;-)
