I'm writing to share my excitement about my upcoming land purchase and off-grid building project.
Yesterday I started having second thoughts when I found out my road was being paved by the county so that it could be promoted as the recommended route to a nearby hot springs. Right now people are taking a private road from a different paved county road, and the people along the private road route are complaining about their dirt road getting torn up by all the tourist traffic.
When I heard this I was thinking I might want out of the land purchase deal, because I'm wanting to put personal retreat cabins on the land, and wouldn't want the additional tourist through-traffic to the hot springs.
But then I talked to several friends and between their input it became clear that this is another unexpected blessing (of course) and that beyond that, I was led to this land for very good reasons.
The Energetic Angle
Apart from anything about the paved road, which I'll get to later, the land itself is perfectly suited for my intentions for it. A friend who's a Feng Shui expert did some surveying for me and the below text and images are what she came up with:
That is truly amazing land around there—it’s a feng shui analysis dream. that land is about as off the grid as can be. I would need to know more about the current and expected traffic, but I would say that paving the road and re-routing traffic will be a good thing: the land is so niched out from both geographic and man-made energy flow that it runs the risk of stagnation. This is a more macro view than your current plans, but I’m attaching some maps.
The yellow (flipped for ease of visibility) marks geo qi, the white shows man-made, and the brown highlights the still zone (which i think would make for all sorts of interesting psychic-influence-free experimentation).
(Within strong chi area)
(Minimal man-made energy)
(Still zone, meaning easy to settle into one's own energy without interferences)
The Paved Road
The other thing I hadn't been aware of myself is how important a paved road is when it snows. I've never lived in a place that got snow that had dirt roads. Turns out it's a really big deal to not have to drive on unpaved roads when it snows. The snow melts much more quickly on a paved road.
Also, for people coming from a city (which I presume is who will be doing solo retreats on the land, to rejuvenate and restore from the stress of city life) they will 1) be much more comfortable with paved roads than dirt; and 2) not consider the 10 cars/hour the residents of the current route to the hot springs complain about to be "high traffic." In fact, they are likely to think of it as very low traffic, when they are accustomed to more like 10 cars going by per minute where they are now.
To me it's still a lot of traffic, but my house will be way at the back of the 7 acre lot, and I'll have a walled garden on that side of the property anyway, so I'm unlikely to hear or see any traffic going by at the road.
Perspective
It's so important to get perspective from other people's viewpoints. From my perspective, something bad was happening that made me doubt my plans. From more experienced perspectives, something great was happening that increased the value of my property before I even finished buying it!
Never underestimate the power of crowdsourcing decisions!
Very nice! It's so important to get perspective from true friends' viewpoints if they are able to give you some expert advice. I'm glad your story has a happy ending. And ... positive thinking is not only about expecting the best to happen but it is also about accepting whatever happens is for the best!:)
Very true. I call it greeting all of life as a blessing and assuming that life is always trying to bless me. It helps when the mind can grasp the chain of events, but faith will do in the absence of that.
Very true. Thank you for the right perception of life and optimism
It is a wonderful thing to have friends to give you great advice or suggestions. I take a lot of what you say to deep thoughts and act on them....
You really have me thinking sometimes, and how you view life is similar to mine like graduation ceremonies.... I also didn't look at my high school graduation as a last stop. I never did go beyond high school education but I have always had in my mind to go back for a higher learning..... your posts is of high motivation for me.
That's so awesome. I hope you will pursue that dream. When it is something you do for yourself, not for other people's expectations, that's when education has real value. And I'm honored to be a part of your "thought team." We all get by with a little help from our friends. 😊
Hi @indigoocean. Long time no see... :) I had stumbled across the Zen Proverb, "The obstacle is the path" a few weeks ago and had been reflecting on it some. Then I lost the internet and took it as a long needed blessing in disguise, given I haven't gone more than 24 hours without the net in over 7 years and this amount of time for a good 2 decades or so.
Anyway, because I too feel a strong desire to get a nice place far from "civilization", when I first read this post I could totally relate to how you felt. Still the bottom line is, as your friends helped point out, a paved road will certainly bring with it many benefits for such a off-beaten retreat and given it leads to the hot springs, they will have easier access to the hot springs as well. To me a retreat near some hot springs sounds like the perfect retreat.
Yeah, I had a different idea in mind, thinking "2nd to last house from the end of a dirt road to nowhwere driveable," but now it is "2nd to last house from the turn off to the hot springs." Both are good, and I just have to let go of what I was thinking was the plus and embrace a new plus.
I totally hear you, as that's exactly what I would have to let go of too... Just looking at the map I can feel some very strong pleasant energies coming off the mountains there permeating the whole area. I'm very sensitive with mother earth's energies most of the time. Does the lot have some nice trees on it? Also, just out of curiosity, because I couldn't make out the exact location of the lot on your posted maps, is it on the flat plain, hills or in the mountains? I take it is in the last pic of the "Still zone". I'm just curious how close to the rio or water is it and how many trees would you guess are on it...
If I ever make it back there, I'd love to come and spend some time there too. As I said before once that that is the exact area I had thought of coming to buy a place and live too, before getting side-tracked where I am... :) And your awesome descriptions of the area and the people have done such a great job to add color and texture to the tapestry I have in my heart. I believe Gregg Braden still lives in that area, if you happen to know who he is.
It's a difficult location to describe. It is flat, but there is a steep drop off to a valley just feet from where my property ends to the north. Then the Rio Grande River gorge is within walking distance to my west. Unfortunately there are absolutely no trees on this property, so whatever is there I will have to plant myself. I just couldn't find large enough properties with trees in the area I wanted to be in, unless they were so large I couldn't afford them (like 20 acres).
I know of GB, but am not that familiar with him. There are a lot of well known people around here, I hear. Haven't noticed any of them, but then I don't tend to notice people anyway. I'm so anti-social 😀 Last night I went to my first music event at the Taos Mesa Brewery though and it was awesome. Really good time dancing to Gullah music from visiting artists from GA. Also started getting to know the locals a bit more. Still, I don't think you'll ever hear me talking about "sightings" of our local celebs. We'll see though. Stranger things have happened. LOL
Would love to see you in person whenever you come out this way.
It really sounds like a nice location with nice views overlooking the valley. I can feel your excitement, as you start to settle into the area and culture there. Somehow you add colors to a picture I find myself painting of that area/energy almost like a sort of Sedona-like vibe that seems to be attracting more spiritually minded people to the area.
I did notice the area seemed a bit treeless on the maps. Given where I live not as many trees are left either, some buy larger grown trimmed trees, such as olive trees. My neighbor in the back bought a nice old olive tree (more like a 9 ft. trunk) that must be 50-100 yrs old and had it brought in with a large truck and planted in a new moon week of the winter season. Because I have a special love for trees and feel them as living beings, I paid close attention to that and how well it dug into the land to feel at home, adding so well to the energy of that yard/area now a few years later.
I hear what you are saying on celebrity, as I've met several and always laughed a little at how people act around so called "celebrities". I wouldn't really consider Gregg Braden as a celebrity. Although, I suppose he is somewhat in the spiritual and New Age world, given he is one of the most prolific people I know of and respect who has done a lot to bridge the gap between spirituality and science since at least the 90's. He's part indigenous, I believe to the area there, which is probably part of why he is so profoundly conscious of the wisdom of the ancients and divine connection to all. Your out-of-the-box conscious thinking depth of soul reminds me some of the many things I've herd or read him speak of over the years too. So when I come maybe I can meet and have some long talks with two spiritual celebs. 😀:)
LOL!
Oh my god, this is such exciting news for you!!! Are you definitely buying it? Looks so promising. Follow your heart for sure - but sounds like you have a lot of weighing up to do! Good luck!
It is as certain as any property purchase ever is that the sale will complete. Likely it will be within the next couple weeks. I am looking forward to much of what comes next. I've never designed my own estate before, and really that's what it is, since it will be more than one house in the end. Have to plan for all the structures, even though I'll focus on building just one or two this next year.
Ideas rule the world but then these ideas lies within people and at times requires asking questions before those ideas come to light.
Any man who does not ask questions will always miss road on this journey of life
Glad to see how your friends helped you, pointing out the value of friends and not just friends but friends who contributes positively into our lives.
Thanks for stopping by. Nice to see you.
Welcome ma and how is your plans with your building projects going.
