Great topic, I'd also like to mention how this applies to an employee in the work environment. I'm lucky to work at a thriving, incredibly fast-growing software company so there's plenty of opportunities for growth. I've been trying to expand my role and had been asking myself that exact question, what do I want to do...and the answer was along the lines of "liquor store, vodka, poker and video games"...not surprisingly, I hadn't advanced at all. Recently, I started asking my boss what I can do to help the team, talked with colleagues to find out where they had trouble, and realized we could use more assistance on aspects of internal training, which just so happens to be an area I have experience in. It looks like I'll be getting an opportunity to help our team there as well now...needless to say, I'm pumped!!
