Tonight is full moon and here on Bali it looks particularly beautiful. The Balinese still have a lunar calendar which I believe was the traditional calendar of all cultures. Tonight I went into my village and all my friends looked amazing, wearing traditional costume and lighting incense. The lunar calendar is natural and very logical so what was the purpose of changing it?
The Lunar Calendar
The ancient phrase "a year and a day" has it's origins in the lunar calendar. This is because traditionally years were broken up into 13 months of 28 days each with one extra day in the year. Compared to our current Gregorian calendar which has 12 months of various days and an extra day every 4 years a lunar calendar is much simpler. Many parts of the world still use lunar calendars and they are very effective.
I believe that the reasons behind this odd change are to disconnect us from our natural rhythms and disenfranchise the role of women within society.
The Gregorian Calendar
The calendar we use today in the west is called the Gregorian calendar and is named after Pope Gregory XIII, who introduced it into western society in 1582. The Gregorian calendar was an amendment of the Julian calendar named after Julius Cesar and was a reform of the lunar cycle used by the Church at that time!
Why I Believe The Calendar Was Changed!
I believe our calendar was changed from an harmonious 13 month and 1 day cycle to our strange Gregorian calendar for 3 reasons:
Adult humans are approximately 60% water and like all animals we feel the pull of the moon's influence in our liquid bodies. The entire natural world responds to this phenomenon. The moon's cycles change the tides, animal behaviour and plant cycles.
Also during full moon we experience significant disturbances within our human populations. By changing the calendar to a cycle which is unnatural, the male powers who govern our world were trying to distance us from our natural cycles!Female menstruation cycles are often linked to the lunar cycle. This does not just apply to humans but also has significance within the greater natural world. By changing our calendar the men who govern our society such as pope Gregory XIII are diminishing the connection that woman have to the natural calendar and cycles. This is a connection that men do not have and does not compliment a male run society. Considering there has never been a female pope and that makes sense to me.
Perhaps the third reason for changing the calendar was to do with the number 13, which is sacred in many cultures but I can discuss that in another post.
What Should You Do To Reconnect To The Lunar Cycle?
How do we get back to our natural lunar cycle? Well firstly I can suggest moving to a culture that still uses a lunar calendar - Bali is nice! ;-)
Alternatively you can keep an eye on the moon. Take some time to think about it and feel some of it's energies. Moonlight has a very different energy to sunlight, so soak some up tonight!
Tonight is a beautiful full moon so go and enjoy it. That is what we are doing here on Bali! =)
I would love to hear your thoughts about this subject while it is still full moon! =)
PS - Tomorrow there is a partial lunar eclipse here on Bali - look out for it!

Jockey loves you All - especially under the full moon!
just read your article jockey, interesting thoughts and information about the history of calenders I didn't know.
I don't really agree with some of the other points, especially that "moonlight has a different energy from sunlight" - simply because moonlight IS reflected sunlight. Anyways, interesting read and see you soon!
Thank you very much mate! Upvoted and followed - I should have done it before! For your reference moonlight is cooling and sunlight is heating! Check it out online and also go and feel it for yourself or use a thermometer! =)
will check that. anyways, I got a little somth for you, I think inside it is red and white...
Geil! Upvoted that! =)
i had to come back my friend because your claim that moonlight cools is obviously a conspirancy theory and very much wrong. the internet is full of experiments "prooving" that, I know, but they are all subject to big errors. It is pure physics: moonlight doesnt really heat things because it is I think (i forgot the exact value) 10.000 times weaker than sun light. But it definitely doesnt cool anything either. Check this link for an explanation:

However, I like your thoughts about why the Gregorian calender was invented and about the advantages of the more natural moon calender. So this is not criticism of the entire article, only of the esoteric statement the moon had different light - it certainly does not.
I have always felt the energy was different between moonlight and sunlight since I was a child! I always feel warmer in the shadows at night... upvoted for doing some research! =)
I am in love with the full moon , especially for this reason, I keep track of the lunar calendar to always have an idea when is the night's of the full moon? On its nights I give my self some time to sit under it's light and enjoy it's energy and light reflecting over the world or simply just take a night walk.
Thank u for posting information about our calendar , had no idea of this before. Have to agree with some of ur reasonings.
You are welcome! Your name makes sense! =) I have sun-gazing friends you may enjoy @samstonehill is one! Followed and upvoted! =)
Hehehehe , will look at his posts .
Excellent presentation @jockey, thank you for sharing with the ocean of Steemit. We learned of the 13 moon almanac a few years ago and since studying it have found much greater synchronicity with the natural cycles and our relationships.
Looking forward to more of your writings on numbers, cycles and returning in honor of the divine feminine within and of all that is. Many blessings to you in joy.
Wholeness.
Thank you my brotha! Upvoted and followed - again I should have done this a while ago! I know a fair bit about this stuff and will write some more - just for you mate - LOL! =)
Cheers geez, just for meeee! Steem on :)
Aye aye capitano! ;-)
Nice view, thanks for sharing the picture ..
You are welcome! =)
The back of a tortoise shell has 13 parts because of this fact. They make 13 the mysterious number because it's a nod to those who knew and part of hoodwinking the rest. 13 is lucky for some unlucky for others... you see why now. To the initiate everything makes sense, to the laymen the world is unbalanced and requires complicated maths to fall into nature. Nature appears to need order given to the laymen, but the master knows natural order is the true control of man.
Basic mind control from eons ago. Masters aware to the laws of nature would predict the lunar eclipse and claim they had magical powers and entrap the minds of nations.
Lunar light is very different to the sun, it is not a reflection and is actually colder then the shadows - the inverse of the sun. The moon will affect all seeds including the female seeds - this is where we get the astrological signs from that determine personality traits. Planting by the moon provides the best results, I always sow just as a new moon is coming, to take trimmings you want to go for the third week when water is staying in the stem more due to the moons position.
In thai buddhism the lunar calendar is used for all kind of predictions and celebrations and is followed closely for agriculture purposes also as a 'auspicious dates'- why the west does not and forces daylight savings time? Is this what causes early aging and seasonal diseases? An interesting topic to discuss indeed.
I never thought much about our calendar, what an interesting post! There is so much power in the moon and our calendar is pretty random, now that I think about it! Thanks for sharing, sending good vibes to you!
Beautiful scenery, unfortunately I missed the atmosphere of the lunar eclipse yesterday. Thank you for sharing a beautiful photo about the lunar eclipse.
