Well, I am Danish and we use the word in all situations really. I think that all people on earth know what it is and means even though they do not have a specific word for it. Sitting calmly with a coffee, beer, cup of tea or fermented yak-milk while your children or grandchildren play nearby - that is it! Could happen in Uganda, Tuscany, Korea or Chile. The best thing is that you don't even need to do anything

My favorite thing that I'm learning is that you can tack it on the end of all kinds of words, like meals, socks, anything that's extra hyggeligt ;)
You will always use it as a prefix, before not after the word you want to hyggefy - like hyggestrømper = hygge socks, hyggested = hygge place, hyggeknald = casual sex.
hyggeknald is a new one to me! haha seems the possibilities are endless!
