Purchased with SBD!
Now, this wasn’t a direct trade, but I did cash out some SBD and convert it to USD which I used to purchase this shipping container. Since we have had a storage unit for almost two years and since we wanted on site storage anyway, we thought this was the way to go.
In our struggle to fight against recurring bills, getting rid of the storage unit is a must. These shipping containers can come in handy, and they can always be sold later if they outgrow their use.
FINALLY!
We had been wanting one of these for a while now. If we would have bought it even a few months back, it could have saved us hundreds of dollars on our storage unit rent. After shopping around, the guy we went with was about $500 less than anyone else we could find. Many are selling for $3000 or more in our area.
However, there was a slight waiting game, since the guy we got ours from had sent most of his trucks to Texas to help out with Hurricane Harvey… and then to Florida to help out with Hurricane Irma. When I got the call Monday saying that they should be able to get one to me on Wednesday, I was excited. Then, when I got the call on Tuesday saying they could get me one in a few hours, I was busy, but certainly willing to accommodate.
IT’S NEVER EASY!
Here you can see the shipping container being dropped in a spot that is not where I wanted it. Actually, this isn’t even on my property!
You see, the guys loaded it on the trailer backwards. They even specifically asked which way I needed it facing when they dropped it, but still put it on the other way.
Since they were only trying to drop one for me, only a driver came. Normally they have a crew for things like loading a container. If you’re wondering why I’m in the driver’s seat of the guy’s truck and why my helpful neighbor (who’s also the father of @jaguarlife) is on top of the trailer with the controls, it’s because we had to make up the missing manpower needed to drop and reload the container.
HOME SWEET HOME
Eventually, we got it facing the correct direction and reloaded. The 20 second video above is one that I made as we were finally moving it to the land.
After all the work that I put in, it was great to have the shipping container finally on site. @Grandpa-pepper had helped cut down trees in this area, the @little-peppers had picked rocks, and @bluerthangreen helped me level off a site for it.
In fact, @bluerthangreen even came over to help me make some minor adjustments. I guess moving the shipping container a few feet this way or that way may not seem very minor, but now I know how to operate a front end loader with a backhoe attachment, remember?
Yup, I was in good company and hard at work with the necessary tools to get the job done. It’s such a blessing to have such friends and equipment available!
A FAMILY AFFAIR
Always being ones to observe and learn, the @little-peppers lined up some chair nearby so that they could watch the action. These are the memories that will stick with them in the years to come.
Not only did the @little-peppers make their way down, the lovely @mama-pepper did too! In fact, she took a lot of the backhoe photos. Soon, @papa-pepper and her will be sorting through a lot of our older possessions and seeing what makes its way into the container.
My family wasn’t the only people watching, check out @bluerthangreen. That guy can supervise like a boss! LOL! Actually, he’s the one with the know-how on a lot of stuff; I’m just another tool that he uses to get the job done.
THE LIFE-CHANGING REALITY OF STEEMIT
Not all that long ago, @papa-pepper had no clue about social media, the internet, blogging, or cryptocurrency. I set out to learn more and apply what I learned, and, thanks to steemit, now things like this are possible.
Personally, I highly favor selling SBD to convert to fiat because there is less potential of exponential growth in value than there is with STEEM.
What you have just seen above is a huge difference made in our lives because of the opportunity that steemit offers us.
Before I give you my short, "If I can do it, you could too" speech, I will mention that it has taken me an incredible amount of effort and a lot of time invested in steemit to be able to receive the kind of rewards that made this purchase possible. However, as you can clearly see, dreams have become a reality to thanks to steemit!
Anyway, yesterday was obviously a busy and eventful day for us. In the end, it was a huge step forward. We’ll keep you posted as we continue to progress.
As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:
proof-of-shipping-container
Until next time…
Don’t waste your time online, invest it with steemit.com
So, I was right with my guess yesterday.
I had been surprised that you had not received it before, but now I understand why hurricanes Harvey and Irma delayed the delivery.
Yeah, the original guy that I was going to get it from fell through, then we found this guy, and then we had to wait. To save $500, it was worth it.
Great Guess! You know me pretty well!
@papa-pepper.
Whenever i find myself in a new environment, i. Recoil into my emotional intelligence shield to evaluate successful people altitude and actions in the arena. When I came across your Monika, @papa-pepper, my instinct told me , stop this is one of them. Then I started following you and i should say you are a star. I am like the wise men from the East in the Judeo-Christian Bible, I know you will lead me to the light. Smiles. continue shining for us the newbies
This is wonderful, and I see how it is a great family affair. The little-peppers being put to work makes my heart sing as every hand needs to be used to make it work in a task like this. Makes me wish we had the land to be able to use a shipping container. Though, you mentioned once it outlives it's usefulness.
I have looked into many alternative options for shipping containers, and one of the most interesting ones I have found, is a year round hydroponics growing container, which could be powered by solar panels on the roof. The possibilities for these are endless, and I don't think you will run out of use for this puppy!
Yeah, personally, I think that we will always be able to use it!
Storage Fees Bye Bye
Such a great idea to get a container if you have the need and space for it. Renting storage at a storage facility is useful in the short term but if you go past a year the benefits quickly diminish because you are basically paying to keep stuff that you don't need. Great to see the little peppers watching their papa operate the heavy machinery!
teamwork always works better.
Glad to know all pepper family work to get this done.
Sometimes it takes a lot of hands to get the job done, thankfully, we have a lot of hands.
i am also wish to buy and hold some steem.
Slap some solar panels on that thing and then set up some mining rigs :P best storage ever
Good idea!
Lots of space, 40 x 10 = 400 sq. ft minimum.
40 x 10 x 12 = 4800 Cubic ft.
thanks 4 sharing
Loving the little peppers watching you work!
Yeah, they get to take it all in!
wonderful update and great narrative on how you used your sbd to acquire this huge container at a good price i should say... all turns out for good to those who work hard and you deserve the best and many more coming your way...my first time seeing the beautiful @mama-pepper carrying the youngest of the @little-peppers
nice one dear... keep it up
Nice! Those storage containers are indeed a great investment. There are tons of homesteaders around these parts that build homes out of them. Plenty of grows, too.
My wife, @carrieallen, and I are so close to having a little bit of SBD to spend. To say that we're excited to be making something from nothing is a gross understatement.
It's hard for me to want to do anything except power up, because
Steem RISES!
Thanks for a great post!
As a person with no possessions, I find it amazing you need such a huge container to store things. What are the categories of "stuff" you will put in there?
Basically, all of our possessions include everything that will be put into our house once we build it. Also, any thing that I do not want exposed to the elements, like my wood chipper, reel mower, chainsaw or other things, will have to be stored somewhere out of the sun Wind and Rain.
We have a growing family of seven people, so there is quite a bit of clothes, bicycles, toys and other things that need to be put somewhere.
Oh, I see. I'm not tilling the land or raising kids now, so I have different needs. When I see one of these containers, I'm think of it being turned into a cute house :)
I think this may be one of our future investments...a smaller one will do for our little hobby farm. Such a great way to recycle. I love the post about adding solar to it. Great idea!
great life.!
ALways be happy my friend 😍
Thanks!
Very good post. Hopefully your work is always smooth @papa-pepper. thanks for sharing
Good stuff man and passing the skills on to the @little-peppers already! Cool that you were able to fund the whole thing with SBD
Yeah, the SBD - funded part is sooo cool!
good friends combine with good equipment and the result is good production. Nice :)
Ahh, the wonders of shipping containers. We use some for storage as well... but yes... from sheds to houses, to even shipping😹, the potential of these things is amazing!! 😃
Now that’s what i call great team work. Awesome job and I’m glad you finally got your much needed extra storage space. Those things are great space savers too.
Seems like a nightmare to have that thing dropped in the wrong spot. You truly have great neighbors!! Some people do live in shipping containers and make them really comfortable. What is converting to fiat? Did you post about that? Still learning the ropes here...
"converting to fiat" means turning my SBD into USD, so I can spend the cash.
Thank you! It is like learning a new language here :)
Someday you'll have to tell me how to do that.
Have you thought about burying it and having a "Man-Cave" / Storage Shed?
Burying underground will help reduce the temperature of the unit. I've seen some interesting ideas where people buried a shipping container and made it into a wine cellar!
Incredible story! It is amazing to see what Steemit can do, it is not just a social network and this is just the beginning 😃
Awesome to see the dreams become reality!
It is very rewarding to see the progress as we move forward!
Woah! This is mighty cool!
Thanks!
Your package came to my house today. Thanks again my friend. I will open it when I get off work. I will message you on steem.chat
Cool, I might have time to send out one more!
@papa-pepper so cool to see your success story. I built a screen porch for my mom with trap doors in the floor to provide storage. We cut out a $60 a month payment and that was six years ago so t saves $4,320 so far. It is amazing how little payments can add up. Now you can put solar panels on top of it and make it a power station. I had to reblog this to share with my friends how they can take steps to making change in their life’s. Man just think of it a person could eliminate one bill and take that money and buy steem and power it up.
Great story papa-pepper!
I have always admired you and your wonderful family! It is uplifting to see people today that are so family oriented. It is lacking in todays society, I think!
Wonderful!
....upvoted and resteemed!
Wow, that´s a really good idea to have... when we built our home in Spain, we were storing our goods including the SUV in a garage we rented for 6 months until we started to build the 2nd house.. Yours is a good and wonderful idea because you have the place to have that container.... keep it up!
@papa-pepper Thanks so much for sharing this inspiring post.
$500 bucks for a shipping container is more than a bargain. It is an outright Godsend!
And, so is the beautiful family He has blessed you with.
You’re right…life is rarely easy…but oh, so worth it!
For those, interested, YT has some great videos on turning those containers into sturdy, designer homes.
I’m praying everyone on the non-productive side of social media gets to read your advice:
Don’t waste your time online, invest it with steemit.com
Peace.
It wasn't $500, just $500 less that others in the area.
Ahhhh! Okay, that's more like it. You're mega-blessed just the same...Peace!
Yes, I am certainly blessed!
:+)
what a great score Pepper family!
You could always use it as a storm shelter when you no longer need it for storage
That is a great idea...using a shipping container as your secure storage...we have a neighbor that did the same thing and we've thought about doing that here for lawn mowers, etc... :D
We used a 53 foot refrigerated trailer (minus the refrigeration parts) as our barn and it has worked out quite well for us...it was a great investment and one of the cheapest ways to make a barn. :D The guy that dropped it in our yard in the wrong spot and he didn't remove the wheels like he was supposed to. That's okay though because my hubby dug a little trench for the tires to go into and then just dragged the trailer where it was supposed to be with the backhoe. :D
Thanks for sharing and have an awesome day! :D
Cool! At least you guys made it work and got it where you needed it!
Exactly, right, it doesn't matter if everything doesn't go exactly as planned, you adapt and persevere and get it done in the end and that is what counts. :D We just have to remember that each failure is another chance to learn how do something the best way possible, until you get it exactly like you want it. :D
can't beat a great family and a few good friends!
Thanks, I agree!

You know, you could turn that container into a sweet tiny house...
Now just need to get rid of the "China Shipping" and just slap a Steem logo on it!!!
Great stuff man.
Question!
How does one sell steam dollars to convert it to usd? :)
Wow i love it... what an amzing idea...

This is a good article. I enjoyed it. I also would like to have a shipping container.
Nice
Awesome post, congrats on your success and best of luck in the future.
Make sure you have the shipping container a few inches off the ground, with concrete stepping stones in the corners and the centers, and also drive at least one ground rod and attach a ground wire securely to the steel container with a #6 solid wire, to prevent the container from rusting. It will draw small electric charges from the ground and rust out prematurely if you dont.
