As a type1 diabetic, I follow a Low-Fat, Plant-Based, Whole-Food Diet, which helps me control my blood glucose level very well.
This diet requires me to measure everything I eat, every single ingredient, and count how many grams of carbs and fat they contain. I'm allowed to eat maximum 30g of fat per day, which is a very low amount. I usually take stricked care of it, but yesterday, I was craving for peanuts so much, that I simply didn't care and ate a huge package of peanuts in the evening (90g of fat).
I was sure it's gonna cause a huge spike in my blood glucose level today, and yes, it did 😅 It is extremely high now because my body is full of fat, and the glucose can't get into the cells with the regular amount of insuline. So for this reason, I'm having very low-carb meals until my blood glucose level normalises.
In my opinion, **if we lived only according to the rules, life would be so boring... **😉 I don't encourage anybody to brake the rules, what I'm saying is, not to feel guilty if you cheat on your diet occasionally.
One of my low-carb meals today was ceviche which turned out to be very tasty, by the way. It containes only cucumber, tomato, onion, fresh cilantro, lime juice, a little salt and pepper. 🍅🥒
looks yummie

Hi I am doing the same and this is a great post
Thank you very much my Dear :) Are you on the same diet?
I am trying to be no-sugar vegan and also looking at old wheats for bread making and organic foods. I am cooking alot of my own foods.
That's great, this is the way to go!! If you make your own food, at least you know what you put inside and what you are eating. No hidden ingredients. I'm so happy for you :)
Some people say that they have to take a lower amount of insulin on a a low fat vegan diet. How did it pan out for you ?
Exactly the same here. Since following this diet, I can use less insuline/carbs. But if I don't stick to my diet and I eat a lot of oil or fat, my insuline needs becomes higher again. That's why I have ti keep fats low
@plantbasedmiri thank you for supporting @echowhale im swimming by to deliver the rest of your upvote. Great job on the post.

I have a 12-year-old niece who also has type 1 diabetes. How difficult it is to see her wrestle. Her whole day is controlled by carbohydrates, measuring, insulin, hyper, hypo. And all at such a young age. But what is she doing well, I am so proud of her.
So good of you how you deal with your diet!
Ohh my god, it can be such a pain as a small kid... It is truly hard to watch all these things even as an adult, but as a kid, it can be very difficult. Especially being at school, seeing others eating chocolate, chips, etc., but you can't eat, it can be very hard... Also for the parents, because it takes a lot of time and effort for them too.
I hope she is going to do very well with her diabetes. I'm sending her lots of LOVE!!!
Thank you!!
