This Robo-Fish Is A 4K Underwater Drone That Swims Like A Real Fish!

in #life8 years ago

Drones are amazing - they offer so many possibilities for filmmakers and creators, and they're also just fun to fly around with!

But have you ever thought about an underwater drone?

Underwater cameras and -drones have been around for a few years now, but when I saw this particular one I just had to share it on Steemit.

Meet Biki: the first bionic underwater drone that swims like a robo-fish!

It may look cute and even a little bit funny, but don't be fooled - Biki has some quite impressive functions and technical specifications.

The "robofish" is equipped with a 4K UltraHD camera for the highest quality underwater footage, and a 150° wide-angle lense.
It can dive as deep as 196 feet (60 meters) and swims continuously for 90-120 minutes on a single charge - although its speed of 1.1mph is relatively slow.

It moves by flapping its bionic fin, just like a real fish!

But don't worry, according to the creators, the footage won't be shaky: the drone has an unprecedented HD movement camera set and anti-shake camera platform which is based on an eccentric pan & tilt head.

The underwater drone can either be controlled with an app, or with a physical controller if you're in the water. It can also swim around autonomously.

There's even an option to pre-program a route which Biki will then follow.
The footage that the drone records is live-streamed to your phone or tablet, and can later be shared on social media.
Biki even has built-in lights to explore particularly dark or deep areas.
It comes with 32GB built-in memory and supports 16-megapixel photography at 30 fps.

The drone also has built-in obstacle avoidance to make sure it doesn't hit any objects or rocks underwater, and in case the GPS signal is lost, it automatically returns to the starting point.

The innovative project was launched on Kickstarter a few weeks ago.

Biki is the first crowdfunding project by Beijing-based start-up Robosea.
The aim is to start shipping the product in August 2017, and the drone is currently on sale for an early bird price of $599 (retail price: $1,024).

Their initial goal was $20,000, which they've surpassed within one day - currently, they're already on $128,000 with 49 more days to go.

What do you think about this underwater drone? Fun gadget or waste of money?

Well, now THAT'S COOL! As for your question, "...What do you think about this underwater drone? Fun gadget or waste of money?"
In my humble opinion... BOTH😜 Lol
Thx for the cool post, @sirwinchester ... Upvoted/resteemed/Followed

Thank you for all the support 👍 I appreciate it!

Agreed @symbiotic So cool i want one now! 😆

I think they need to add a bunch of spikes and maybe an electroshock film to stop other big fish, or sharks or steemWhales from trying to swallow it whole! lol

Hahaha you're right 🐟 🐠 🐬 🐳

LoL hahahaha truth! 😂😅😥😅😂

Swims like a fish? Hope it doesn't get eaten!!

Congratulations @sirwinchester!

Well, I guess it can be a fun gadget, for people who a into diving and such stuff. But the real potential I see in more serious applications. For example for searching lakes or rivers for bodies or other things, checking ships hulls for damage, and all that. It is much quicker and cheaper than a human diver, and can even be used in potentially dangerous environments.
For that price it would sure find many potential buyers.

That would be awesome for some underwater diving courses.
1 By 1.

first drones and now fish, what next?

we've had drones in the air and in the water - next would be drones that dig themselves into the earth below? 😂

Technology is not slowing down for anyone these days. This is a wonderful invention, it has solved a problem.

I want one this would be awsome if you could get it to go with a school of fish. If you could get it to go alot deeper that would be even better

Really neat. It looks good too. Would be fun to watch. Who knows what could be done. How about with the camera, cruise along a dam where the big catfish are known to be.
Great find. Thanks for sharing
Francis

That would be awesome 😄
Thanks for your comment!

Oh yeah! I'll be getting this so I can get the L A D I E S ! ! !
hahaha
Biki is a total playah! The video was funny.
But really, how amazing! Everyone who lives near the beach or who fishes at a pond is going to want one. And I love that it doesn't spook the fish. That's probably the best part.

Hahaha, yes the video was a little over the top but we get the point.
If you have kids or live near a beach/pool, this would be an awesome gadget.

technology has gone far... thanks for sharing

This would be fun to play with

Pretty cool. Does it bite the hook if someone goes fishing haha?

Yes!!!!.... saw one in one of this New Chakie Chan Movie: kungfu Yoga

I believe that wonderful photos we can take with this sea drone. I believe too that many diver photographers will lose their jobs :)

Yes that's actually true, there would be way too many amateurs taking nice underwater shots!

Nice. Just when you think nothing more creative can be done, you find something stunning.
It would be ironic if this fish camera used to catch fish.

Interesting=) Thank for post)

Simply to damn cool to not upvote
Followed also

Thank you! 🙌 much appreciated!

Overall... Waste of money, but to the right niche crowd this thing is amazing
Imagine underwater coral reef documentaries with this

Looks like fun! My son would love that little Biki :) Thanks for posting,
very interesting underwater fish drone.

I can see cray fishermen using it to great effect. It doesn't appear to stream live though, so they'd need to send it down for a while, have it search nooks and crannies, maybe with a searchlight attachment, then resurface, and show them where the little guys are hiding.

Yes it does stream live to a phone or tablet. They have their own app (similar to the DJI drones) where you can see what the drone is currently filming.

You're right, this would be an incredible gadget for fishermen!

That's pretty cool. My son is just getting into entry level drones so he will be interested in this!

That's awesome, I wonder if it has a range of water temperatures it can work in because it could be my new ice fishing best friend!

cool :-))

wow...!! this is soooooooo cool...!!
great information..
technology always surprises like this. and now its this tiny fish which looks so real..:)
thank u for sharing :)
