Lucid dreaming has way more to offer than simple dream control. I get that this is the easiest way to turn people on to the idea, but honestly you can use it for a lot of things. You can use it to practice waking life skills, get inspiration for creative pursuits, which are some practical things. My favorite reasons to use lucid dreaming are for self-exploration, personal growth, and enrichment. If you have phobias, you can practice aversion therapy in a completely safe environment. There are a lot of things to be explored and many ways you can learn new things about yourself that you can then use to your advantage in waking life. I was able to overcome suicidal tendencies and most of my depression with the use of lucid dreaming. It's more than just a playground, you can get a lot of work done, too.
