Steemit & Discord are addictive. - Will I ever get a full nights sleep again?

Who's tired? I know I am but it's hard to stop 'Steemin'.

So many people I've interacted with in the last few weeks are spending an increasing amount of time posting, reading and commenting here at Steemit. And many of us are spending time networking in the discord chatrooms too.
There are quite a few in there I swear never sleep.

Why is that?

Simple..........friends.
Friends from all over the world. Steemit and Discord are unique, not because you meet people from all over the world (let's face it you can do that with Facebook) it's because of the respect that we all have for each other's work. Yes there is the odd difference of opinion which is to be expected however nothing malicious or disrespectful.

For this reason everyone seems to want to interact more, produce more and better work, have a good laugh and most importantly help each other become better writers and hopefully people.

I'm shattered right now as I write this but I really don't want to leave it until tomorrow to finish as I have another peace in mind I want to get started. And also I've got mates here I want to get it out to and hear there opinion. Weird! Not really like me. Or is it 'the old me'.

Am I the only one like this right now?

Life begins at 50?

Funny, I'm tired but paradoxically I've never felt more awake. Every night I say to myself, "early night tonight" but it never happens as there is always a comment to make a post to read or write, a friend to chat to in discord.
I turned 50 a couple of months ago and I haven't slept more than 5 hours in a night (apart from a couple of drunken evenings) since due to this Steemit journey, and I love it. I never thought that would be the case in my 50's. A lot of the people I know who are in their 50's have aged noticeably since the big 'five O' however I feel somehow younger, and not in a sad 'mid- life crisis' way. I don't intend going out getting a phallic red sports car or anything else cliche.

I bet this dude just turned 50!

I feel empowered due to the new friendships I've made here at Steemit and in discord. Maybe it's because I've never involved myself in social media platforms before as they seem to have the ability to encourage the worst society has to offer and I want none of it.
The empowerment comes from being able to share knowledge I've gained throughout my years with likeminded people and in turn learn from them.
It never ceases to amaze me the really smart people I meet here. For a long time I've despaired at the apparent 'dumbing down' of our societies however my recent interactions have given me hope and things aren't as bad as I thought they were.
So many younger people here are great truthers and have a real understanding of our paradigm which is the most pleasing surprise for me since coming out of my self imposed bubble.
I still believe there is a deliberate dumbing down of society however those who escaped government education with their critical thinking still intact seem to be graduating towards Steemit and I for one am happy to be here waiting to welcome them. Even if it means getting hardly any sleep!

Love ya face. And your brain. I am honoured and humbled to be able to call you a friend <3

Go to sleep :')

Love ya too babe, you're the best potential illegitimate daughter a bloke could wish for 😂😂
Keep up your hard work. You're an amazing truther, once everyone realises that you're gonna be massive.
And I'll be right there hanging on your coat tails. 😆

Aw, we love you too Perc!

And are getting less sleep for exactly the same reasons.

I'm up from a solid 5 hours. Ready to rock n roll baby!!
Thanks for reading and being awesome x

Great write, I agree and feel the same way on "I feel empowered due to the new friendships I've made here at Steemit and in discord." - Unlike Farcebook, there are some really genuine people here with loads of good content!
steem on.png

Thanks buddy. It's great to hear others feel the same way.

You know what I like about Steem... Of course i'm addicted too but the thing I just realized reading your post is that, i'm now trying some new things, like photography, and want to share some knowledge on it. I like teaching so it's a good platform to share... Let's steem on!!!

It's a great way to expose yourself to new experiences and find likeminded people.
Great to know its expanded your horizons.
Thx for reading and commenting.

Really pleased you're loving writing dude, you're certainly giving a lot of people a lot of laughs with your steemit stories, me included and keeping people informed on the truth front. Still trying to find my inner blogger/writer, who knew that you had a natural talent for writing that lay dormant for years. Long may it continue. Love ya broski.

Get yourself writing bruv, I have no doubt you'll do well.
Like you say you've got to find your inner blogger.
I love you too man, start posting!!!!!

Hey TP. You're welcome 😁

By the way mate... resteemed with a 100% upvote. Your posts are always perfect in my eyes. 😍

Hey SK, you're a true throw back to the times of chivalry. Your name is perfect dude, you're a class act.
Thanks for everything buddy.

Again you flatter me TP. Thank you.
Look at you buddy - you're a serious Dolphin now mate. ☺

Now be sure to keep up with the latest developments too. 😉

https://steemit.com/steemlords/@sirknight/lord-of-the-steem-awakening

Will do buddy.

Ah man what a great post and what a journey eh @tremendospercy? Finding steemit amongst the staleness and sterility of social media has been a genuine breath of fresh air. And meeting you on the first day I joined has been a real highlight! You're top man, a genuinely good bloke and I'm humbled to class you as a good friend. Thanks so much for the mention and as I'm sure you're aware the feeling is entirely mutual. Steem on dude!!

It's been a mad ride dude, I can't believe it's only been 2 months, feels like I've known you for ages.
Thanks for the kind words as ever. You're one of the best buddy.

Your stories always make me giggle. <3

Glad to hear it dude. Don't want to be too serious, life's to short eh?
Thanks for your non-stop work in discord buddy.

sips tea frantically

You are killing it percy, keep up the good works.

What did I take away from this? 🤔
Oh that's right, you're an old git 😂

In all seriousness thank you for the mention, I am honoured to be your friend. You always make me laugh when you mock me in your wonderful tales, and that's what real mates do. Now get some sleep old man.

Rested now buddy, ready for another day at it. You're a top bloke, I'd have never navigated half the suff I have here without your help.
Thx again

I love this, so much, So many younger people here are great truthers and have a real understanding of our paradigm which is the most pleasing surprise for me since coming out of my self imposed bubble.

Thanks for the shout out, great work, constant support, and friendship. I cannot believe you are 50, already! The beauty of this place is regardless of your age it's like a bunch of kids in the sandbox just trying to build a better castle together.

Learning, encouraging , and utilizing each other's talents and gifts. It's funny how this community doesn't emphasize gender color race or even location. This community is just one big sand pile For a group of kids to play :)

And thank you for your support babe, keep up the great work you do an amazing job.

Aww, you are too sweet my friend!

I'm not sure what's going on with my my upvotes these days. I've been keeping an eye on them lately and when I was about to vote I took note that you had 84 votes and less than $6.00...when I added my vote the total jumped to 85 votes and to over $18.00. I've no idea what's behind this...anyone?

As to Steemit being addictive...all I can say is if you're not then you're gonna be. And if you never really become addicted then you're likely to be abusing the hell out your allotted earthly time here...or you're just not a true Steemian.

I gave this place a month when I joined in June and I gave it my all. I think I averaged less than 4 hrs a day sleep. Most people can do this but eventually, as we all know the brain takes over and forces us to shut down. I think they call it sleep deficit. I read an article about it here a few weeks ago.

I'm doing better now that I know I'm here to stay. Still catching a few hours here and there and every few days crashing for a full six to eight hours dead time. Not that I don't have things to do here...always something going on in Steemit or Discord.

Still it's up to each of us to be conscious of our health. I hope everyone finds their equilibrium between the time they spend here, the time they spend with friends and family in the walking world, and what's best for their health...both mental and physical.

Excellent topic again Percy, you've got a solid balance of genres going on here. Always a good read. A happy belated 50th to you my friend, you do seem much younger of heart...and if they're calling you old at 50...then I must already be dead and this is the heaven and hell I never expected existed.

K...think that's enough babble for one of your posts...look'n forward to the next.

                        ~smiles fer miles~

Thanks for such an epic reply, as always.
Really pleased you stuck around you're top!

You must have been tired writing this one!! Hope you get some sleep and start thinking straight again!!!
This is what this place is all about, friendships and no sleep!

I was shattered Scotty, just about finished before I crashed out.
Thanks again, for all the crackin banter and support dude.

This is such a wonderful and inspiring journey Steemit that MSP has created for us. And by us! I feel honored to be included in this wall of fame. You are a truly a special person and I am happy to know you.

You're so welcome babe, you're a truly wonderful person yourself. So glad to have met you too.

Much ❤ my dear friend.

I can't remember the last time I slept more than a few hours, either. Certainly before I got involved with Steemit and PALnet. The first thing I do in the morning is check Discord messages. @Sandzat has a great post, too, about this...about the sense of family and the overall great connections we're making with people all over the world. Friends DO keep a person younger. I believe that is the truth.

The work you do in discord is brilliant and I love your on going comment on the comedy pieces.
Keep it up Rhonda, you're a legend too.

If I'm a legend, it's probably for all the wrong reasons. LOLOL! But thank you for your never-ending support and friendship, and those outrageously funny comedy pieces. They brighten a day fast. :-)

Hey man, you do not need to transfer 2SBD to randowhale as it was now offering promotion, you just need to send 1SBD only!

Great post. I have exactly the same problem. Steemit is my first foray into social media and I'm addicted. A lady never reveals her age of course, but let's just say I have been 49 for some years now.

Hey Babe, you can be 49 for as long as you like 😃
Thanks for reading and commenting.

Lol, was up until the early hours trying to figure out Steemit and now I'm sitting with even more questions than when I started.

Thanks for sharing :)

Yep! Sounds about right. You'll get there dude.
Cheers..

I have never heard of discord but I am intrigued now :) Maybe thats a bad idea as I, like you am glued to steemit right now and it is 02:24am!!!

I love how steemit has such a variety of different topics and creations, something that other social media sites fail to offer!!!
Ohhh the steemit addiction is strong :)

Have read of some of my comedy stories in which I advertise discord by mocking my friends there.
The links to get you started are embedded in the text, you may not know the characters but the message is friendship and support. Below is a link to the latest one.

Enjoy and look at some of the older ones if you had a giggle.
Good luck and thanks for commenting.

Thank you so much I will check it out now :)

Upvoted & RESTEEMED!

Hey that's really cool, thx @geekpower

Nice one! Burnin the midnight oil here too.
I made this the other day, I think its appropriate.

Cheers.

Hahaha! Yes!

So bloody true 😜

I rarely leave my computer, I think I'm addicted.
...And don't say I'm just a dick!
😝

very uplifting post.. there are many wonderful people in Steemit and from what I have read here you are one of them. )

Thank you for the kind words.

excellent post. I am only one year ahead of you, but we are way ahead of most in health, vitality and truthiness, if that counts

Oh it counts. Been good meeting you. Looking forward to more chats.
Thanks for reading and commenting.

Love this post, @tremendospercy! Upvoted. You've said everything that I myself feel, but with more meaning and flow. We are all in it together and for the better! :) Belated happy birthday to you! Cheers! - @sandzat

And when you have some time, please check out my last post... it's about what I'm doing on Steemit and what Steemit is doing to me. :)

Thank you, I'll go check your work now 😃

Can totally relate to this feeling haha,, addictive and lack of sleep in deed♥

Well put my friend. I am now constantly staying up till the early hours reading and writing. Not done that regularly in a few years, obviously in a different context. But as you say its great to be connecting with so many like minded people it feel GREAT !!! The humanity is waking :)

It really is waking up.......finally!
Cheers for reading and commenting dude.

No worries, I hope your journey is as good as mine has been.

Very nice post. Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome. Thanks for reading and commenting.

So true !!
I cannot cannot stop steemit, so many interesting post and when you start to earn you cannot stop the machine, becomes so addictive.
But It's OK, this addiction give us money and knowledge, nothing bad in that

That's true, the knowledge is the true wealth.

Yes!!! It's so true..I'm sleeping way less, but somehow not as tired as I expect to be...

That's the addiction keeping you awake! So many great posts you don't want to miss any.
Thanks for reading and commenting.

So true, so true. I signed off PAL an hour ago to go to bed.. Guess what I'm still doing. Reading and commenting :-) LOL. G'night. I mean it this time. Get some rest, we'll be here tomorrow.

I know right!!!! Gets ya every time 😆

Omg it's like you read my mind !!

So many of us in the same boat me thinks!

I also agree and enjoy interacting with a wider field of people through Steemit. I do however have to disagree with the sleep aspect. I am working full time 40 hours in an active workplace. Yes I am tired and my limitations are that I have a timer to tell me when to stop. I have not got involved with any chat room environments.

I'm lucky in that I get to do this at work, however I still mange to stay up late, Madness I tell you 😀

I feel ya. I feel dizzy being up all night

Get some sleep buddy. Or mainline coffee, that helps! 😂

i dont drink coffee. i smoke weed

Very nice piece - I have thought about joining steem chat but I know I will let it take over my life and I have to get enough sleep and still concentrate on my day job, but I can see me getting more involved and that Steemit can make you forget about sleeping

It's a slippery slope but I wouldn't change a thing.
Cheers for reading dude.

True true. My mind just won't shut off :( help! (in a good way)

It's mad when you're new here, all of a sudden you want to write constantly and find it hard to shut down as there is always a post in your head.
It gets better but the addiction is strong.

Exactly! Couldnt have said it better. Still we need to look out for quality posts and not just the quantity

Steemit is really addicting! Although I wouldn't be able to function if I was sleeping only 5 hours a night. I'm like a baby, I need at least 9h of decent sleep. And then I can steem for all day long! :D

9 hours!!!! 😮 That would be sweeeet!
I do catch up at the weekends and Steem at work so not so bad.
Thanks for reading and commenting.
Steem on. 😉
