Aging happens to us all and while you are young and vibrant most do not give much thoughts to that aspect of the future.
Yes I was also like that.
Add years and accidents and not slowing down when my body screamed in pain, I have abused this body and now have to make modifications if I am to have any life where I have the freedom to do anything.
A few days ago I felt the twinges that I have learned signaled a slow down.
Now I have to admit in the past I would rage against not having the freedom to come and go at will, no outside walk abouts or getting to enjoy time outside of the house just loving nature, the antics of the birds, rabbits, etc that make up a part of my world.
A slow down signal is me not being able to walk (loss of feeling from the waist down).
It so far does not impact my internal working parts, but loss of feeling means those legs turn into stumps (you see them but not feel them and can't use them).
During this go round I used the time to get some learning done from a few folks (link to Blog) https://steemit.com/steemit/@weetreebonsai/expanding-knowledge
I also have one of my adopted nephews out to do some more modifications for me to age in place, I used to have the standard fluorescent lights in my kitchen (never really noticed how dark they made the room).
First he had to fix the mess up by the last one that came out here (yup folks will take advantage of older folks) who claimed he was a "Finish Carpenter/electrician" and has done many of the same type jobs. And yes he came recommended!
Nothing like middle of the night having the lights come down because they were not affixed into a stud or joist...
The weight of the new light fixture attached by just 2 screws into just the sheet rock created a hole in my ceiling and ripped out most of the wires... (THEY LOOK LIKE CANNING JARS!)
It is fixed now, just need to do some clean up and some painting but I can tell you it is super bright in the kitchen now!
He also did this one:
More things to come as projects are done....
You know where the funds will come from to get it done...STEEMIT!
So what steps are you or have you taken into place for being able to age in place?
So welcome to steemit, read, respond and be real.
Those are some cool lights!
I do think about my parents often and how
they wanted to stay as independent as possible.
Tho that was a different time than now, there is
much to learn from it. Keep on learning :-)
The amount of light they give off is like going from dark to full sun..
We haven't done much yet, but I've witnessed my grandparents and now my parents (in their 60s) doing many things like changing the location of their bedroom, switching things around in the kitchen and getting a few gadgets to help you grab and open things.
I will try to keep the things I've learned from them in mind when looking for our future homestead.
That is wise, because it is going to happen so it is good to keep it all in mind when looking!
My husband and I have watched our parents and grandparents age, and we’ve tried to take notes. We’re trying to incorporate features in our house as we remodel that will make living here as we age easier, if we have to live here when we’re older. (We’re planning on renting it out for some side income when we move to our future homestead.)
For example, we’ve remodeled the bathrooms according to ADA standards, and our hallway is wide enough to easily use a walker or wheelchair in.
I’m so happy for you that you have someone you can trust to do some things and help you out around your house. Unfortunately, many are taken avantage of, and don’t have anyone to help.
Good that you are advance planning!
It sucks to not just get old but to have very few who you can trust.
Partition is bad. But whatever is past is past. We have only to look to the future.

I have aged backwards in my heart.
How is that?
I'm just now catching up on your posts, @weetreebonsai, and trying to virtually 'get to know you' better :) The title of this one especially caught my eye because the aging process is something I have been studying and successfully holding back now for the past 8 months! I have been using a completely natural NRF2 activator which turns back on the genes that eliminate age-related effects. In a nutshell, you become as young as a newborn infant again at a cellular level. In such a state, your body performs all the miracles of healing that God designed it to do, no matter how old we are chronologically! It's been a Godsend for me and my family and now a lot of people I've told about it. If you're interested in getting more details, shoot me a message and let's set up a time to chat!
My interest is peaked. Steemit chat?
weetree, what or where is the steemit chat? if you're on fb we could friend over there as well. :)
