Fat Culture on the barbie: 2/x

Picking up where I left off (sorry, I got involved in a discussion about folklore, horror literature and cultural appropriation while at the gym.)

Alright so back to Fat Culture, and the point that I was getting around to. If you're the sensitive sort, keep reading... Why do Fat people eat so much?

Because they have to...

Because they have to. Once I started studying molecular physics, I came to understand the enormous caloric requirement to maintain homeostasis in myself at 136 kilograms. Heating that much mass takes a -lot- of energy, and cooling that much mass without guzzling water all day will leave you very dehydrated. And that's just heat.

Processing oxygen efficiently at that mass keeps your heart and circulatory system at overload, your lungs heaving (against great inertia) your endocrine system straining, and all of this is taking place even while you sleep. There's a reason why obesity is right on par with chain-smoking in terms of your health.

And then your joints. One thing alot of folks don't realize is that weight-lifters with 113kgs of muscle are -still- considered obese, with all the same health risks. Your joints and body simply weren't meant for that sort of exertion on a non-stop basis. Again, this is only homeostasis that I'm speaking of.

My ex has Crohn's Disease, my girlfriend had Stage IV Endometriosis (thankfully, an operation saved her life), another ex has Rheumatoid Arthritis and a friend, Lupus. All of these are excruciatingly painful diseases that limit physical activity, and every one is aggravated by obesity. These women are stuck in a bad situation that can only get worse. And every one of those Stepping-Razors is working in what ways they can, to keep that from happening. Bed-exercising is totally a thing, and I did it too. :)

One thing I found shocking is that once I lost all that extra mass, I wasn't nearly as hungry. I simply didn't -need- anywhere near as many calories as before. And that makes eating healthy even cheaper. And how incredibly easy it was doing stretches, and walking for 5 hours, even things like tying my shoes. Keep in mind, physical activity done on the job, totally counts. <3

Every single gram of mass lost, makes losing the next one easier.

Back to Fat Culture. In my mind, it is extremely foolhardy on the part of anyone to lie to themselves in this manner. It even borders on blasphemy, because Aunt Lili is going to ruthlessly enforce the Laws of Physics, our opinions be damned. Every man, woman, mountain and rhubarb has the same rules. Because it's Fair.

I've heard recently about this concept of a "fat gene," that's been going around. I'm a big fan of evolutionary theory, and I call shenanigans. If descended from people of a arctic clime, such as the Inuit and Native Siberians, where having extra insulation (fat) was a distinct survival adaptation; then Yes, certainly, that is part of who they are. If not, they're just kidding themselves. The human belly exists as a store of quickly metabolized energy, and it's quite common to build a small one up during the winter, as physical activity is lessened when temperature and illumination wane. Making it a full-time gig, though, is complete folly.

Humans are Super-predators.

Though we've certainly adopted a more herd-animal social structure due to our enormous success as a species, we truly aren't meant for that. We are something far greater, the ascendant super-predator on land. Yes, we're kinda crappy in the water, but much like the Orca and the Giant Octopus, we are terrifying survival machines. And we should act like it. Everyone you see is an absolute miracle of evolution, and it's a horrid disgrace to treat yourself as anything less.

But this is what Fat Culture, and Anorexic Culture, and even Oversize-Muscle Culture promote:
A form of compulsive self-abuse, which leads to a terrible reckoning from an unsympathetic Universe.

Love to the Loving,

Silas Danois
