You know, I am totally convinced that the Bible is the key to emulating Christ. It directs us on how to live for and like Christ.
But it's important that first you understand that there's a difference between the new and old testament. The word testament means covenant. And a covenant is an agreement (bewteen two or more parts). The first testament was between God and the Jews, God's chosen people. The new testament is the promise in Jesus. Jesus was sent by God to earth, in the spirit, and became God in human form. (like an avatar of God 😊)
And one of the reasons Jesus came to this word, was to fulfill the law which God gave to Moses. So finally, you didn't need to follow all these rules and religious acts.
And also, now everybody could be saved from death, not only the jews, but even the "sinners"
If you want to live as Jesus did, you would not follow the bible literally. And you would most certainly not avoid wearing clothes made of mixed fibers, as this book "The Year of Living Biblically" says you would do to live biblically. That was a rule the jews had to follow, in the old testament (the old covenant, agreement).
If you read the new testament, and read about how Jesus behaved, you will soon find out how to live as he did. He came to talk about God's love towards all mankind. He walked around healing people from their sicknesses. He also showed how you could get internal healing, by believing in him. You could get rid of anxiety, fear, hurtful thoughts etc. The main thing though, was to show love. To treat people as you want them to treat you.
I'd say, if you want to live as Jesus did, show unconditional love to the people around you. Forgive those who treat you like shit, who don't deserve it. Bless people who speak bad to you. Also, follow the ten commandments. As a Christian, those are still valid. Though, like the first commandment says; "You shall have no other gods before me", doesn't only mean like, don't have buddha as a God instead of me. It also means that God should be the main source in your life. That means, if watching television is what you love the most in life, and it's more important than God, then television has become your God.
What I'm saying is that not everything in the bible means literally what it says always. Jesus spoke in images, he gave parables. He gave examples. Understanding this truth is important
