I'd be willing to bet you sometimes do the same, but when in Thailand I often gave some extra to the seller at street markets and the like. My wife (who is Thai) often didn't like it, but eventually came to see my point when explained that the extra is only $0.30 for us (or even $1 or $2), but is a meal for the seller - who likely doesn't make much money to begin with. It wasn't any hardship for us, and I hope in some cases it helped people, at least through a spirit of generosity.

Yes, I believe we are all guilty from time to time. The point is that we should all be more conscious about things like this.
