When it comes to our feathered friends, no one quite sticks out like these guys.
Between the chickens, muscovy ducks, and guinea fowl, we've got some bird variety around here. Even though these guinea fowl start off looking almost like quail, they soon grow up and their face goes through a most incredible transformation.
Who would ever think that one cute little keet like this would grow up to look so much different? I was playing around with my macro lens a little more, and here are some close ups of these amazing birds. They almost look like something out of a Star Wars movie. Hopefully they will be hatching out more cute ones in the spring!
MACRO GUINEA

Yup, and so are they, all dark meat bird.
Awesome post once again!
Thanks man!
That's Gewone Tarental for you. If you want them to be pretty you have to get the Kuifkop Tarental or Crested Guinea Fowl as they are known in English. Here's a picture of them in their native habitat behind a friends house. If you look in the middle of the picture you can make them out. Taken with my old camera, unfortunately. It does include a photo of barbed (Razor in this case) wire though.
Interesting to see them grazing. Tough looking barbed wire.
South African's try to hide from invaders using razor wire, bars, wild roses and the native Pyrocanthus. In the meantime the wildlife like the tarental/guinea fowl are busy chasing one another around and fighting for dominance of the pecking order.
you love your nature @papa-pepper :)
Is that ball or egg?
looks like a ball ☺
Yes
Nice shots. It's a blessing to have guinea fowl I'm Ghana. Their meat is very sweet. Some people here even say that it's the best amongst the birds when it comes to meat.. How was it when you ate some @papa-pepper?
The egg of quail too has a medicinal usage in my country. I'm just not sure the disorders it cures. But I've heard it is good for treating hypertension

What are those things hanging out from the neck called?
For hens they protrude upwards and are called crown?
I'm still thinking of a name for this.

Wow, they really are weird looking birds! I dont know how you managed to take such clear shots of their heads! :D
Great Post as Always!
They’re pretty birds but man they can be noisey.
Thanks for sharing and steem on :)
I had Guinea Gumbo once in Louisana and it was delicious!
The second photo was exactly the quail I saw in my garden. Unfortunately I did not have time to photograph him because he flew right as he saw me. Hehehe
Look like turkey's hen
Nice macro photography, @papa-pepper! Love having guinea fowl around on the homestead. Great at eating the bugs...
It's the first time I see this guy. It looks like a vulture and a chicken.
lol, they are much more attractive from afar. A close up of the variegated plumage would be cool though
These are amazing photos. Looking forward to see more 🐔 :)
-check me out @felixsteemit-
They do look like baby quail. Their heads look awesome! Hopefully, you'll have more in a few months.
Guineas are awesome to have on your homestead. When I had them they kept the spiders and bugs in check. They are also good watch animals, as they will make some awful noise of something is around.
Good microphotography. Thanks for sharing,
@tincanjunction
A very beautiful bird, is it a rare species? it seems that in my region, in Aceh Indonesia, the bird I never saw.
Nice shots @papa-pepper and Steem On! 👍
