Wow... there were some pretty cool looking machines there! How I would love a proper barista machine in my house for my coffee... Not only would such a thing not fit in my house (I mean flat), its a bit expensive for non-commercial use :) Thanks for showing us this little slice of the coffee festival :) I never knew such an event existed!

I was thinking the exact same thing!!
But some compact machines do exist and provided you negotiate hard for the counter space you could fit a commercial grinder (without the hoper, just use a small container) and say an Europiccola. Add freshly roasted coffee and you would pull shots as good as any;D
I have looked at the smaller versions of those things, but somehow they are just really really ugly .. at least the ones I've found.. gotta just keep looking :)
What type of coffee machine would you like?
Lever? Heat exchanger (assuming you want espresso...) If you go superautomatic (and not all superautos are born the same lol) you can then skip at first the grinder. I'd go for a medium sized Jura, sometimes you can find them refurbished for a nice price (500usd with 1yr warranty). These are very versatile but of course grinder could use going a step or two finer. You could also feed them pre-ground if you want to go finer but for this you need a nice grinder (say another 300usd used for a San Marco).
A lever machine (Europiccola, Elektra) is very pretty and IMHO easier to pull awesome shots through them once you dial them in. Harder to cater for a party if you want say 6 in a row.
For a heat exchanger machine an Expobar again is very compact.
Wishing you an awesome cup everyday;D
I quite like the idea of a lever machine, and the Elektra models look damned cool.. of course, I do a google search and the first result is for one that costs Β£13,000! lol I feel it may be a long time before i get a decent machine that isn't just one of those coffee pod machines... I need a house first! My apartment kitchen is a bit too small for that still.. All my counter space is full and all i've got there is a microwave, toaster, kettle and one of those senseo machines. :)
LOL 13k ugh!
Elektras have awesome quality but pressure is regulated by a spring inside. Pavoni Europiccola's don't have a spring, it
s you who regulate the pressure. I was lucky to find a
79 one for about 200usd or so. But you do need capable grinder for a lever machine. All the best, hope you will fuel your craving with the right setup one day not too distant;D
Thanks :) I hope so too! I think it will require some creative searching on ebay ;)
