Market Friday goes to London Coffee Festival with πŸ‘‰πŸΎ @c0ff33a β˜•οΈ πŸ‘ˆπŸ½

Exhibition Festival of coffee taking Place at the Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane in London. The London Coffee Festival is the biggest single coffee event in the UK, and has stands from an eclectic range of business's from coffee shops, coffee roasters that supply shops or retail, coffee machine manufacturers, coffee roasting machines - everything. This is my contribution post to #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (πŸ‘ˆπŸ½ That's her, Denise) and posted by me @c0ff33a (πŸ‘ˆπŸ½ That's me β˜•οΈ). This week we are visiting an

IMG_2372.jpg

So my Wednesday started with a train ride from Halifax to London Kings cross station.

IMG_2374.jpg

After a quick Uber rider from the train station to the Old Truman Brewery, I checked into the event and got my exhibitor pass to find these two crates on the stand. The big one shipped straight from Turkey to the Logistics company that then brought them to the stand prior to the even build up. The small crate I packed 3 weeks ago at work with the 1kg roaster and everything I would need for the stand. So I turned up today with a drill and mission to take these crates apart and make a stand out of them.

IMG_2385.jpg

This is a good view down on the exhibition build up, the big crate has 12 screws holding down the top piece of wood. Easy way to remove them? Climb on the small crate, climb on top of the big crate and sit up there going around the edge removing one screw at a time. I got some funny looks as people passed me up there but it did the job! Lid off and start on the sides, some of the screws have been power drilled in so hard my drill won't pull them out - I have to use a manual driver to work them loose before the drill will remove them. Slow, painful work applying force so the driver doesn't slip and strip the head.

IMG_2386.jpg

Progress is made we can see the Coffee Roasters! The little red roaster still weighs 80kg, so that's an easy two man lift. The logistics people who brought the crates in, I also paid for the use of "two men" for 5 minutes to lift the roaster onto it's trolley. In the end they were so busy they only had one man free, so I had to share the lifting - ooh my back. How much for 5 minutes with a burley man? Β£20, not sure that is good or not Ladies?

IMG_2387.jpg

So with the little red roaster on it's trolley I built up, and with the help of the man and his pallet truck the big roaster moved to it's correct position - we are literally cooking coffee with gas at this point.

IMG_2398.jpg

And with some final tidying up, I reach as far as I can get on the Wednesday night. Time to hit the hotel and get an early night ready for a busy day at the show Thursday morning.

IMG_2497.jpg

And here we are, ready to start the London Coffee Festival - let's see what is inside.

IMG_2420.jpg

My completed stand for one, with Banners put up to try and cover the crate panels of the big roaster. The roasters are what people are here to see anyway, that is the big draw and hopefully I will sell a few to cover the costs of this stand!

IMG_2422.jpg

So let's take a walk round and look at the stands, this is a cold coffee brew stand - they even have cans of cold coffee.

IMG_2423.jpg

Not just coffee though, this is a hot chocolate stand.

IMG_2424.jpg

Coffee machines, we will see many coffee machines!

And now it's time to say goodbye to The London Coffee Festival for today, I will be back Sunday for the last day of the show and then to put everything back into the crates. I hope you enjoyed my quick walk round with you, these were some of the stands at this show - the first day is the busiest and I spent pretty much all my time on the stand dealing with enquiries and answering questions - I had many potential buyers today discussing the roasters and taking their details to send more information. Hopefully a few will buy because that will help cover the cost of being at this event.

Sunday I will hopefully get chance to have a closer look round, and take some better close up shot's of different brew methods - for a different post.

such a beautiful market you shared..the place is so calm and nice.thanks for your entry and do have a wonderful weekend @c0ff33a

Thank you very much I am pleased you enjoyed my post

Wow... there were some pretty cool looking machines there! How I would love a proper barista machine in my house for my coffee... Not only would such a thing not fit in my house (I mean flat), its a bit expensive for non-commercial use :) Thanks for showing us this little slice of the coffee festival :) I never knew such an event existed!

I was thinking the exact same thing!!
But some compact machines do exist and provided you negotiate hard for the counter space you could fit a commercial grinder (without the hoper, just use a small container) and say an Europiccola. Add freshly roasted coffee and you would pull shots as good as any;D

I have looked at the smaller versions of those things, but somehow they are just really really ugly .. at least the ones I've found.. gotta just keep looking :)

Β 7 years agoΒ (edited)Β

What type of coffee machine would you like?
Lever? Heat exchanger (assuming you want espresso...) If you go superautomatic (and not all superautos are born the same lol) you can then skip at first the grinder. I'd go for a medium sized Jura, sometimes you can find them refurbished for a nice price (500usd with 1yr warranty). These are very versatile but of course grinder could use going a step or two finer. You could also feed them pre-ground if you want to go finer but for this you need a nice grinder (say another 300usd used for a San Marco).
A lever machine (Europiccola, Elektra) is very pretty and IMHO easier to pull awesome shots through them once you dial them in. Harder to cater for a party if you want say 6 in a row.
For a heat exchanger machine an Expobar again is very compact.
Wishing you an awesome cup everyday;D

I quite like the idea of a lever machine, and the Elektra models look damned cool.. of course, I do a google search and the first result is for one that costs Β£13,000! lol I feel it may be a long time before i get a decent machine that isn't just one of those coffee pod machines... I need a house first! My apartment kitchen is a bit too small for that still.. All my counter space is full and all i've got there is a microwave, toaster, kettle and one of those senseo machines. :)

LOL 13k ugh!
Elektras have awesome quality but pressure is regulated by a spring inside. Pavoni Europiccola's don't have a spring, its you who regulate the pressure. I was lucky to find a79 one for about 200usd or so. But you do need capable grinder for a lever machine.
All the best, hope you will fuel your craving with the right setup one day not too distant;D

Thanks :) I hope so too! I think it will require some creative searching on ebay ;)

That is one hell of a festival my friend. With all those pictures i feel like I was there. Thanks for the tour and good luck with business.πŸ‘

Thank you very much, we did get plenty of enquiries so hopefully they will turn into sales in the future - the commercial roasters are a big investment so nobody buys without a great deal of discussion.

a coffee festival that thousands of people love, with a very good and sophisticated coffee machine, dozens of booths with coffee equipment, @jhoni likes @coff33a, thanks for sharing.😊

Thank you very much I am pleased you enjoyed the exhibition

Thank you very much, it’s a massive festival and very popular and busy. Hard work for me though, hopefully I will get some good sales from it.

I saw that too engaging fest...similar line we do have trade fair in here every year....πŸ‘

Wow!! Excellent post and lots of awesome photos..it's Like I was there!! I hope it all goes great and you make lots of sales!! I can almost smell the coffee and now I need me a cup!! resteemed 😊

Thank you very much, you could smell coffee all around - and plenty to enjoy tasting too!

Wow! I am impressed!! Your stand looks so cool buddy!!
So many pictures! Very nice and extensive post! 😜

Thank you very much, relatively a simple stand but it was still a lot of hard work getting it ready. The little red roaster had coffee beans being mixed in it’s cooling tray - 100’s of people took photos and videos of it!

That is amazing!! I am happy for you!

Excellent post

Thank you very much

Wow I can just imagine the amazing aroma from the coffee beans !!! .. coffee time one if my favorite things to do during the dayβ˜„β˜•
Great pics from the festival! Feels like i was thereπŸ€—
Thanks for sharing @c0ff33!

Thank you very much , it was a wonderful festival and lot’s of different coffees to enjoy.

There are no words to describe what I feel now!!!! That's heaven!!!!!! You know I'm a coffee addict and what I see here is the most amazing place for an addict. This is brilliant! I have to reblog this!
Now I have a request. How can I get a tote bag like that? I'm serious. I would love one. Any chance for buying it?

Thank you very much, it’s an amazing festival with so much to see and try. The festival tote bags are given to people who pay to visit the exhibition- the exhibitors do not get them unfortunately.

Aww, too bad πŸ˜ƒ

Your booth looked great! I'm sorry to hear you paid for two men and only got one though. The rest of the booths looked nice too, I bet it was a fun place to walk around. And it had to smell good with all of that coffee about. :D

Thank you very much, I only got one man for the packing up as well - but it was better that nothing I could not lift the red roaster on my own it weighs 80kg!

Awesome to see this great post nice pictures you shared

Thank you very much for always taking the time to read my post and leave a comment.

Nice post my dear friend

Thank you very much for always calling in and leaving a comment

WOW! That's some festival and so well documented by you! Here's a tip! for your coffee saucer! LOL! :-)

Thank you very much, I’m pleased you enjoyed it - not the best photos but they give you the general idea.

That looks like my kind of event! And free samples? Count me in! Never heard of coffee-beer before, sounds gross lol!

Have a great rest of your weekend at the coffee festival and I hope it's a great success @c0ff33a! :)

Thank you very much, the black coffee lager was actually quite refreshing - although it tasted if neither coffee or lager to me! Hopefully I will get some sales from all the interested visitors.

This looks like a very busy place.

It was!

Coffee! Coffee everywhere! β˜•β˜•β˜•
I bet @ackhoo @littlenewthings @khimgoh @joannewong @alvinauh would love this too!

@elizacheng! Yes love cofffeeeee! Those roasters are so cool but for now, it is just me and Nespresso machine!

Thank you very much, it was a festival packed full of all sorts of coffee.

Wow awesome post, feels like I was there!! Thanks so much for sharing.
I see stuff for businesses and bits for home use as well.
Right now I use a Behmor. I was wondering if this brand was represented at the show? I may upgrade it one day to a Hottop...
I am wondering if freshly roasted (beans or ground) subscriptions are popular in UK? As in knowing that I go through say 1/2lbs of coffee in a week at home (or small office) I would subscribe so that is automatically taken care of.
At any rate, it is very cool to see so many British are so much into coffee.
I hope you did managed to sell some of these Topers. I have heard great things about them.

Thank you very much, I know of the Behmor but there were no domestic roasters at the festival this year that I saw. I deal a little with the Gene Cafe roaster, the Hottop I have seen working before - I thought the Behmor was a little more advanced? Coffee Subscriptions are big business in the UK, the biggest are hasbean.co.uk and squaremilecoffee.com

When I roast my tiny batches I put the Behmor on the stove top and start the stove vent to the max. So definitely the smoke suppressor technology is a plus in the Behmor. Even so I have to open windows and doors lol.
I was just mentioning another roaster as a way to move forward, but can`t ding the trusty Behmor. It is pretty accomplished and user friendly.
Thanks for the feedback and wishing you for a perfect cup every day;D

Hello,
Super article, as usual!!
It was very interesting to follow you on this festival.
The stand was looking great, and I got tired just seeing the amount of work that it must have required.
Hope this event will result in plenty of orders.
cooltext282474954781898.gif

Thank you very much, packing it all up was harder work - I the small crate did not turn up until 8.45pm two hours after the exhibition had closed! I managed to pack it all up and leave at 10pm - I had to stand on the two bar stools to give myself a boost onto the top of the big roaster crate to screw all the screws in that keep the lid down.

Yes, exibitions are very stressful events, I know that from experience. But that's something I had, however, a lot of fun to do.
The story about your machine must have added a lot of challenge, I imagine.
Looking forward to reading you,
