As an American Girl who is in love with UK I feel for you and I assume your leaving is the same reasons I am not there year round as well.
It is so odd to me that there are always discussions of people being free to immigrate here and there but we, as Americans, never get to be the immigrants. The amount of things I have tried to be allowed to live in UK year round, so annoying. And I hate that when I go I know I have to stay out for another 6 months before going back, very very frustrating. Especially since my ancestry IS ENGLISH, why oh why did my stupid ancestors in the 1600's leave England! I will never forgive my progenitors for that one!
Well, I am assuming you are coming back to the USA at some point. I hope you will be full of joy and happiness whilst here and if you are in the East Coast area, let me know. Toad Hall is a bit of a run down old place but a good place to sit in the sun in the Summer!
Embrace your fella and hold him tight. It makes me think of the old WWII song by Vera Lynn "We'll meet again".
