Once, we were also minnows ... This, was a common virtual sight back then and you can imagine us thinking out loud in front of our computers - "THE WHALES AND DOLPHINS ARE SWIMMING NOW, TIME TO POST!"
It was all but a gamble and everyone seem to be posting when the whales and dolphins were present hoping for even just cents. We were happy with cents (I still am , you?) back then even though the trending page was on a 5 digit reward. Everyone wanted to be on the trending page surely.
Some tried to make themselves look cute on their posts.
Of course, the one that's pretty different always stands out ...
Time flew by and collaborations sprouted here and the many have helped each other and we were all going successful.
It was also possible that they have friends in high places... Anyhow, it felt like Utopia here before, everyone's kind, careful, supportive and we could just get along with each other very well. There were bullies in back then .. the targets were the gals! Life is less fun without them don't you think?
There was a time, everyone bothers to give honest opinions and feedback on someone's posts. 'course the spam comments were there, too. It seems to be normal even back then .
If there's something ... we never had these in our time.. I just don't remember any.

Some of us are orcas now .. and it's all a matter of hard work, persistence, tenacity and camaraderie. Some of us have gotten malnourished and are still minnows but that has just proven one thing; "Time tells who your friends here, really are and who are just treating you like a milking goat ;).
I miss the old days, I really do. I miss my batch mates who used to write we are best friends and all and don't even pay my page a visit anymore. I miss the old days but I do not intend to change the now nor the morrow, just because ...

As you said.... there are always those who milk the system and those who do what not.....that they should not......it is when the system gets saturated with such that things become unbalanced.....unchecked. So many posts out there that are addressing this issue.....we should take pause and give it a think.
In fact we have an organization within Steemit.....that seem to think it is perfectly fine to leave a comment on a post without upvoting it. Sad day.
Hopefully this is just a phase....am hoping @thecryptofiend will add this to his etiquette guide......who would have thought one needed to. It is just comman sense.

I think we all suffer a bit from the growth. When it was smaller it was so much easier to keep up. In a lot of ways it was better. The non voting but commenting brigade are terrible. I go off my head every time I see one.

There was a time here where the big ones commented me and vice versa and gave upvote to comments, yes, both ways went.
But slowly and surely disappeared and they no longer commented on either.
Yes, I thought they are working well with something else then so I thought I'd help someone get started and learn a little bit of what I can and I'm fine because I have a good mentor @englishtchrivy and then I can learn further. fun-filled expression on the roofs (the canyon) but did not find any mentor but a lot of polite use.

Hey @englishtchrivy tout ceci ne m a pas fait rire car oui la plateforme Steemit est à la dérive. Je me rappelle des débuts ou la communauté française était vraiment très peu développée. La langue était une barrière et je n'oublie pas toutes les fois où tu m as prêté main forte malgré ça j ai eu des périodes de relâche et je me demandais quand est ce que j allais reprendre Steemit. Je n'oublie pas non plus les concours de cuisine que tu organisais. Aaaaah si j'avais mieux maîtrisé l'anglais peut être là situation serait elle différentes maintenant.

First, I was born not wearing clothes and pants, alias there is nothing in my body ha ha, I am a minnows and must be recognized that I am looking for the attention of everyone including you, I want everyone to be my friend.
Although the attention has not fully come to me, but to me it does not matter, because the steps and fortune will be we get by pray and make effort.
what makes me frustrated ? Maybe during this time I often stay up, sleep time is less ha ha
second, I think that I should help myself to build my character, and is there a friend who helps? I think there is, for example you ..! I never expected a reward from you, but by replying to comments, for me it was more than enough. and thank you for giving up vote to me.

Hi @englishtchrivy I enjoyed reading this post and found it quite interesting when I first discovered steemit that this answers a few of my questions back then about how the platform worked and the whales. Catching a whale in your intro. post back in the day sure was interesting for the influence they had on a fresh account.

I used to get frustrated with the bandwidth issue until I researched on it and found a workaround to still post during peak hours.
Well I got here from another site and the people there also help me here. It's just more fun when you have online friends.
Right now I'm not sure if I've made friends here yet. I'm spreading out all over the place finding how to best use the site and the works. Haha. Each site has a purpose of how I use it and for this one, I haven't decided yet which way to go.
I've seen a lot of interesting things here too so I just like to look around and check on topics I like from time to time.

Everyone was born minnows , but it's took hard work, persistence and relentless to become whales or to grow bigger. The issue you discussed here is very true I remember some months back when I get here! U know everyone wants to grow and get noticed.. I do go from post to posts upvoted by giving all I had that is power vote of 0.01 from there little by little.. I learnt lesson in two forms "hardest way and by cool way.. some by flagged even without saying a word and some advised this is how it's Work!!
Thanks Goodness I met with @xpilar during this time, I am so blessed and Lucky to had came across him that time, he gave me an advice and encourage me, he put me through alot of things here am grateful to him.... Few months later after met with him he advised I needed to do my own things. I.e. art , photography that how I started... And he gave me support.. later I met another @andalucia who usually post motivational and inspirational I learnt from him and started writing .... And he do support me I'm grateful to him as well... Alot of them that i can mention, I came across you as well and many... So glad meeting you all..
As per take and give to others!!! I learnt that from Snr. @xpilar .... There guys who glad to met me here as well by giving my little support to them. And I do advises most how I was oriented not to just ask but give minimal they have to those who they need help from...not by asking and comments alone but by voting and behave mature in seeking help... Palmwine didn't came out of palm tree easily it requires sacrifice hard labour.

I do kinda miss when Steem was trading at almost nothing, we were all here building something for those that would come later. It was neat.
