Week 34 of Memoir Monday is right here on our doorstep. What things are you proudest of in your life? This week’s prompt was simple for me because, in my profession, I’ve had plenty of time to think about it. I like having a loose plan for things, not a strict script to follow but a framework of personal rules and I’ve lived the past few decades of my life this way.
Memoir Monday has grown so much that I won’t be able to comment on everyone’s posts anymore (and get my own work done) but I’ll still be supporting your posts with reblogs, votes, and shares on my other social media accounts (X, Facebook, etc.).
For all of those who’ve regularly participated in Memoir Monday - keep going, you’re making great progress in chronicling your very own life story for future generations to enjoy.
For those who missed the inaugural post explaining what the Memoir Monday initiative is all about you can find it here.
Now for next week’s Memoir Monday prompt:
What things are you proudest of in your life?
My answer:
I’d say the things I’m most proud of in my life so far are:
I've always made a conscious effort to bring more light into the world than darkness, both through my work, my words, and my actions. That’s not to say I’ve lived a perfect life or never made mistakes, but when I have, I’ve tried to make amends, learn from the experience, and do better moving forward;
I’ve achieved my personal definition of success, and I’m grateful to have done so on my own terms. Luck played a big part, but throughout my journey, I’ve stayed true to myself without compromising my morals or values. Success feels so much sweeter when you can enjoy it with a clear conscience; and
My mom always says my favorite words as a very young boy were always, "Why?" and "What If…?". That has never changed. I've always been deeply curious and if that curiosity is stifled in any way I find myself becoming depressed. As a result of this I’ve never stopped learning and evolving. My curiosity about both my inner and outer world drives me, and I can’t imagine a day where I’m not excited to discover or experience something new.
Tread Lightly, Love Deeply....this is the mantra that I follow and have included in the front matter of several of my books. This sums up how I try to live my life.
I share with you this eagerness of curiosity. Every day I feel the need to know something new and I am very happy to have a marvel like the internet where I can learn so many things. Thank you for letting us the initiative dear @ericvancewalton . A big hug from Maracay.
I believe that whoever keeps that flame of curiosity will always have a reason to rejoice and exist. I like this topic because it invites us to judge ourselves and sometimes it is difficult, because we are very demanding and we associate pride to material or external things. I think one of the things I am proud of is that I have not lost my essence. Beyond maturity, beyond education, I keep intact that desire to steal bits of happiness from life. A restful Sunday, my friend.
I feel the same way. I feel bad for people who don't have that same curiosity. I just can't imagine how drab life would be. Keeping your essence is a grand victory in life because nearly everything you encounter is trying to rob you of it, even time. I hope you had a great weekend Nancy. Thanks!
No man is perfect in their work but there are less and more. You really have to do a lot to get success. Success erases all mistakes. Luck is also very important in life
I like your policy of Tread lightly and l9ve deeply, I believe that should be the main mantra for any success. And the questions pertaining to 'why' and 'what if', reminded of my days working in a school, 10 years before, where a child was very particular to get the answer from the teacher of her why. She never gives up until she gets an appropriate answer. Now she is in a good ppsition. Nice memories. Have a good day.
Thank you! That child sounds like a kindred spirit. : ) It was always important for me to understand things on a fundamental level. Have a wonderful week!
We need more people like you to bring hope to the world, Eric! Finding the good in others, never stopping to learn new things, and discovering the beauty of our world is living a life with no regret and one you can be proud of.
I need to get my mind on track and catch up with #memoirmonday, two friends lost their husbands unexpectedly/untimely, the one was still young, so I stuck my head in the kitchen! Best place to clear out the cobwebs!
Have a wonderful Sunday Eric!
Thank you @lizelle! I think more and more people are waking up and adopting this mindset. So many of the old illusions are being revealed for what they were. I'm so sorry to hear about that tragedy! It's perfectly understandable why you're focusing on healing and supporting your friends. I wish you a wonderful week my friend!
I think I would need a lot of time to think about the things that I am proud of in my life. It's not that I don't have any, but I think it would just take me a while to sort through everything. I feel like this would be one of those deeply introspective dives where I might be confronted with some things that I don't like in my search for the things I do!
I tried to strip away everything my ego was telling me to write about. When I thought about it the only thing about success that really mattered is the freedom. Some of these prompts have been difficult to write about but, man, have they been cleansing for me. It's almost like a weekly therapy session sometimes.
That's great to hear. I think I understand what you mean about the freedom. Even though I haven't fully experienced it yet!
You will, my friend...you will.
I appreciate your support! Thank you!
You're welcome.
Your enthusiasm for learning and developing is very great, Eric. You can be a motivator for others. Have a nice day.
Thank you Eliana! I hope you have a wonderful week!

Namaste Sir @ericvancewalton,
That's the quintessence of life Sir. There are many advrse situations and prolonged challenges in which which tease us to give up our morals and take unethical means, but eventually we corrupt our soul by doing so, and no matter how high we go, our success can not inspire our inner self/being. A victory would feel like a defeat.
You are more lively. That's what our life should be. We can not afford to make it dormant.
Thank you Sir.
Sir, I have sent an email to you, could you please check it Sir.
Thanks.
